Noura Farouq

Overview

Noura Farouq has expressed support for terrorists, called for intifada and spread hatred of Israel and the United States.

She was the 2017 president [00:05:37] of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at the New School for Public Engagement in New York (The New School) and is a political organizer with New York City SJP (NYC SJP). In February 2018, NYC SJP was renamed Within Our Lifetime (WOL).

Farouq promoted WOL’s “1st Annual Palestine Lives Conference” on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and confirmed on Twitter that she would be attending the conference.

The 2018 “Palestine Lives” conference was held on May 12, 2018 at Hunter College (Hunter), part of City University of New York (CUNY). The official conference poster featured a photo montage of armed men in Keffiyehs, with the caption: “Resisting Settler Colonialism Since 1948.”

The conference was co-hosted by Within Our Lifetime (WOL), formerly known as New York City Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), as well as the anti-Israel groups Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) and Existence Is Resistance.

She is also a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Farouq spoke on a panel at the 2017 National SJP Conference (NSJP 2017) and attended NSJP 2016.

NSJP 2017 was held October 27-29, 2017 at the University of Houston (UH). The conference was themed “A Reimagined World: Dismantling Walls from Palestine to the Rio Grande.” Per the 2017 National SJP Conference website, the conference aimed to strengthen “collaborative efforts within all regions to pass BDS” and envision “pathways to achieving sanctions in the future.”

As of November 2, 2017, Farouq’s Facebook page listed her as having “studied” at the The New School. As of April 2018, this information was removed.

Supporting Terrorists

On December 26, 2017, Farouq tweeted: “Portraits of some of the Afro-palestinian community, uplift the legacy of Fatima Bernawi ✊🏼🙏🏼.”

Fatima Bernawi [Fatima Mohammed Bernawi] was a terrorist with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). She was responsible for a 1967 attempted bombing of a crowded Jerusalem movie theater. Bernawi was sentenced to life in prison but was released after 10 years.

On November 1, 2017, Farouq appeared in a Facebook video of a NSJP 2017 panel, in which she described [00:50:51] terrorist Leila Khaled as a “revolutionary” role model.

On March 8, 2017, Farouq posted an image to Instagram featuring Khaled holding an assault rifle with a quote attributed to her, reading: “I HAVE LEARNED THAT A WOMAN BE A FIGHTER. A FREEDOM FIGHTER.”

Leila Khaled is a leading member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and participated in the hijacking of TWA Flight 840 in 1969 and El Al Flight 219 in 1970. As of 2017, Khaled was a member of PFLP's Political Bureau. Khaled has said that the second intifada failed because it was not violent enough, advocated [00:36:07] for the use of children in terror activities and compared Zionists to Nazis.
On August 14, 2017, Farouq tweeted a photo of a mural glorifying the October 2015 Knife Intifada.

In October 2015, there was an upsurge in violence across Israel incited by Palestinian political and religious leaders. The wave of stabbings, known as the “Knife Intifada,” was characterized by young Palestinians throughout the country stabbing and attempting to stab Israeli civilians.

On July 21, 2017, Farouq promoted an SJP event on Instagram, using an image of a Lebanese terrorist. The image included the Arabic text: “The compass continues [pointing] Southward. The enemy continues to be clear. Resistance continues to be the path.”

On July 14, 2017, Farouq posted an Instagram photo of herself and NYC SJP members supporting PFLP leader, Khalida Jarrar.

Khalida Jarrar is a senior member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terror organization. She has reportedly been the head of the PFLP in the West Bank since 2016. In 2015, an Israeli military court sentenced Jarrar to 15 months in prison for calling to kidnap Israeli soldiers. Israel arrested Jarrar again in 2017 “on suspicion of involvement with terrorist activities and violent public disturbances.” In 2019, she was arrested by Israel with 50 other PFLP operatives following a deadly 2018 bombing attack.

On May 25, 2017, Farouq participated in a demonstration supporting hunger-striking Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jail. She held a sign supporting terrorists Marwan Barghouti and Ahmad Sa’adat, two of the hunger strike leaders. The same day, Farouq posted a photo of the protest on Instagram.

Terrorist Marwan Barghouti was sentenced to five consecutive life terms for some of his crimes, including his role in the Sbarro Cafe bombing. In 2017, he initiated the hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners known as the “Dignity Strike.” He headed the Palestinian Authority (PA) terrorist Tanzim force and founded the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, which carried out many terror attacks against Israeli civilians.

On April 19, 2017, Farouq posted an Instagram image quoting terrorist Ghassan Kanafani, saying: “To those who were martyred for the land of the sad oranges … And to those who have not been martyred yet.”

Kanafani was a leading member and spokesperson of the designated terrorist organization the PFLP in its early years.

Kanafani announced the PFLP’s responsibility for the Lod Airport Massacre of May 1972 and was linked to the airport attackers. The attack killed 26 people.

Supporting Intifada Violence

On December 8, 2017, Farouq advocated for violent revolution, tweeting: “Yeah, bc revolution isn’t non violent. It is a reaction to mass violence & oppression.. & therefore can only be defeated by struggle.”

In the same thread, Farouq tweeted: “It is impossible to be peaceful in a world of violent power dynamics.. Peace would mean death.”

On May 1, 2017, Farouq shared a photo of NYC SJP members making posters for a rally, including one reading: “FROM PALESTINE THERE IS ONLY ONE SOLUTION - انتفاضة [INTIFADA] REVOLUTION.”

Since the early 2000’s the term “Intifada” has carried the connotation of militant violence.

On November 16, 2017, Farouq appeared as a panelist at a Florida State University SJP event, alongside Nerdeen Kiswani and Dan Cione.

At the end of the panel, the attendees and panelists chanted [01:48:54] “There is only one solution, Intifada revolution!”

On October 18, 2015, Farouq retweeted a tweet during the Knife Intifada that concluded with the hashtag “#LongLiveIntifada,” to promote an anti-Israel rally.

Spreading Hatred of Israel and America

On November 1, 2017, Farouq appeared in a Facebook video from NSJP 2017 where she said [01:01:46] on a panel that the belief that Israel is a "global threat" and "a global empire" could unify PFLP and Hamas supporters.

Farouq also said [00:52:32]: “If your Palestinian your still gonna get bombed, Israel’s still gonna bomb you, your still gonna be killed off, that genocide’s still gonna be happening.”

Farouq later said [01:15:13]: “Your job as an ally is to support the liberation and to be against the biggest enemy and that is the US empire and hegemony.”

On September 27, 2017, Farouq tweeted that Israel has “genocidal tactics” and that the “NYPD loves” Israel for that.

On September 24, 2017, Farouq tweeted about a tweet from the Israeli Prime Minister discussing Israeli diplomatic successes. She stated: “Genocidal speak. By ‘countries’- he means capitalist bourgeois who want to open their country to genocide for power.”

On September 18, 2017, Farouq tweeted about the U.S. opening an air base in Israel, stating: “Public and active genocide of my people. The US feeds off the death and pain of black and brown people everywhere for survival.”

On August 26, 2017, Farouq tweeted: “You can't erase that Israel is not only a settler colonialist apartheid state but also is vital to pillaging Africa & destroying the MENA.”

On the same day, Farouq tweeted that Zionism has “only hurt liberation for all oppressed nationalities.”

On the same day, Farouq tweeted about Israel, saying: “Basically, there is no room for a fascist state & its backing ideology in the struggle for liberation. This isn't debatable.”

On the same day, Farouq tweeted: “The Pali movement stands against a system of apartheid, Zionism has no place in the left or in the fight for justice.”

On March 19, 2017, Farouq tweeted “US out of Syria. US out of Palestine. US out of Iraq. US out of MENA. Down w the gulf. Down w Israel. Down w US proxies & ‘soft imperialism’”

On December 24, 2016, Farouq tweeted: “the left is obsessed w Israel bc it is a modern day colonalist violent imperialist state pushing the indigenous folk out via genocide.”

On the same day, Farouq tweeted: “Wtf is post truth y'all pls... all can be critiqued. Israel shldnt ’be normalized as equal or even a country ESP alongside Syria/ Iran.”

On June 6, 2015, Farouq tweeted: “*daily reminder that ISIS/al-Qaeda/other manmade boogie man groups are a neoliberal, Israeli, U.S. and Saudi economic/political wet dream*.”

NYC SJP - Calling to End Zionism in Israel, on Campus and Across The Globe

On October 4, 2015, NYC SJP wrote a statement titled "the BDS Ceiling" which conveyed their view of BDS’ ultimate purpose; namely to “confront and defeat Zionism” — with the goal of “the eventual establishment of a single Palestinian national state covering all of historic Palestine.”

The statement concluded that “SJP … cannot be divorced from a larger, off-campus movement that organizes for the progressive demands of the people, regardless if those demands are related to the university.”

NYC SJP then clarified in its statement on BDS, that the movement, “is not only fighting to drop israeli investments, but is fighting to change the content of the Zionist, imperialist education itself, by engaging in a struggle to liberate the university and democratically administer it to serve the oppressed communities from New York City to Palestine.”

NYC SJP - Praised by a Terrorist Organization

On October 9, 2015, the Progressive Student Labor Front (PSLF) in Gaza — an organization politically linked to the PLFP — issued a statement via the PFLP website showing solidarity with their “comrades,” NYC SJP.

The statement praised NYC SJP for leading “a march through the streets of New York calling for ‘Intifada’ and the liberation of Palestine…” The statement went on to say: " We urge the development and escalation of BDS campaigns at an international level just as we urge the escalation of resistance in all forms and all means here in Palestine ...." and ended with an affirmation that the PSLF is “proud to call them [NYC SJP]...comrades in the struggle for the liberation of Palestine.”

NYC SJP - Calling for Intifada

On January 10, 2016, NYC SJP shared a video on Facebook of their members at a rally in New York, shouting ""Trump, Obama: You will feel the Intifada!" and "There is only one solution: Intifada, revolution!"

On October 6, 2015, NYC SJP co-sponsored a rally held at the Israeli consulate in New York with a number of Israel-hating organizations including NY4Palestine and American Muslims for Palestine (AMP). The rally urged support for a "Day of Rage" called for by “Palestinian forces. The same day, NYC SJP posted a “statement of solidarity” with the “Day of Rage” rally featuring a rock-throwing Palestinian, with the caption “Let the Intifada pave the way for People’s war! [sic.]”

The “Days of Rage” in October of 2015 were heralded by Hamas as the advent of a new intifada. They directly resulted in the deaths of Israeli civilians by shootings, stabbings and car rammings.

Protesters at the rally alternately screamed: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,”— the genocidal chant popularized by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal and others to call for the replacement of Israel with an Arab Islamic state.

Agitators also yelled:"Long Live the Intifada! Intifada! Intifada!" and “Settler settler go back home, Palestine is ours alone!"

NYC SJP - Denying Israel’s Right to Exist

On October 4, 2015, NYC SJP wrote a statement titled “the BDS Ceiling” that conveyed the organization’s view of BDS’s ultimate purpose — to “confront and defeat Zionism” — with the goal of “the eventual establishment of a single Palestinian national state covering all of historic Palestine.”

The statement concluded that: “SJP… cannot be divorced from a larger, off-campus movement that organizes for the progressive demands of the people, regardless if those demands are related to the university.”

NYC SJP then clarified in its statement on BDS, that the movement “is not only fighting to drop israeli investments, but is fighting to change the content of the Zionist, imperialist education itself, by engaging in a struggle to liberate the university and democratically administer it to serve the oppressed communities from New York City to Palestine.”

On April 26, 2016, NYC SJP tweeted a graphic showing the map of Israel overlaid entirely with the colors of the Palestinian Flag and superimposed with the text “Je Suis One State.” The comment on the graphic read “From the river to the sea Palestine will be free.🇵🇸✊ #1948”

On March 1, 2015, NYC SJP members Atika Al-Bashir, Dan Cione, Nerdeen Kiswani and Leena Widdi were panel speakers in an event titled: “Revitalizing the One-State Solution.”

NYC SJP - Exploiting Feminism to Glorify Terrorism

On March 5, 2016, NYC SJP shared an event and blog post on Facebook to “commemorate International Working Women’s Day as an inseparable aspect of the fight for Palestinian liberation.”

NYC SJP’s blog post announcing the event spread the blood libels that "Israel is a state that was built on the murder and rape of Palestinian women" and that “the state forces women to give birth at checkpoints, where more than half of the babies died as a result.”

The event description, excerpted from the blog post, slammed Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir for "colonizing Palestinian land through zionist Ideology", and praised International hijacker Leila Khaled for “committing her life to be a freedom fighter in the struggle for Palestinian liberation.”

The blog post concluded "Smash the Patriarchy! Smash the Settler Zionist State! Free Palestine, and Free Women EVERYWHERE!"

NYC SJP - Blaming Zionists for Tuition Hikes

On November 12, 2015, NYC SJP members participated in the Million Student March, a national movement protesting the cost of college tuition and debt. When NYC SJP announced its participation, it released a statement blaming the “Zionist administration” for the tuition hikes.

According to the U.S. State Department’s definition of anti-Semitism, blaming “Zionists” for larger societal problems and political tensions is an unequivocal act of anti-Semitism.

Video footage from the CUNY march show students chanting “Long live the intifada,” and “Zionist’s out of CUNY.”

NYC SJP - Dressing Anti-Semitism as Anti-Zionism

On November 12, 2015, NYC SJP organized the Million Student March at CUNY, demanding the abolishment of tuition, cancellation of student debt and a $15.00 an hour wage minimum for all campus workers. Video footage from the march showed students chanting "Zionists out of CUNY," as well as “Intifada! Intifada! Long live the intifada!”

Pace NYC SJP - Spreading Hate and Lies

On February 8, 2016, Pace NYC SJP shared a Peace House rap video condemning renowned American record producer, DJ and radio personality DJ Khaled for endorsing Sabra, a Israeli Hummus producer. The video showed clips of Palestinian rock throwers and rappers wearing shirts saying "boycott sabra" — and ‘48, condemning Israel’s birth.

On February 27, 2015, Pace NYC SJP posted a graphic showing the logos of over 50 organizations with the comment "The Companies listed have a part in #Israeli state terrorism." This list included London soccer team Arsenal FC and Time magazine

On April 2, 2015, Pace NYC SJP encouraged Facebook readers to "check out" its new cover photo, which featured a widely debunked map. Dubbed “The Map That Lies — the image fraudulently presented lands once controlled by Britain, Egypt, and Jordan as autonomous “Palestinian land,” purportedly stolen by Israel. Pace NYC SJP’s facebook comment claimed falsely that the maps gave “a brief description of Zionist cleansing of the indigenous population and their injustices”

On October 8, 2015, PLC NYC SJP shared on Facebook an anti-Israel disinformation video produced by AJ+ titled *It's The Occupation — *which fraudulently blamed the Palestinian-Israel conflict on what AJ+ called "the Occupation" in 1967. The video disregarded the Palestinian rejection of peace with Israel and the Palestinian refusal to recognize Israel. The production also falsely equated Israeli security measures and Palestinian acts of terrorist murder — excusing Palestinian terrorism.

NYC SJP - Spreading Blood Libels, Exploiting Feminism, Glorifying Terror

Khaled is a leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and participated in the hijacking of TWA Flight 840 in 1969 and El Al Flight 219 in 1970. As of 2017, Khaled was a member of PFLP's Political Bureau.

Khaled has said that the second intifada failed because it was not violent enough, advocated for the use of children in terror activities and compared Zionists to Nazis.

The PFLP claimed credit for the 2014 Har Nof Massacre where six people were murdered during morning prayers in a Jerusalem synagogue. The PFLP also claimed credit for the 2001 assassination of the Israeli tourism minister.

NYC SJP’s blog post went on to praise PFLP member Khalida Jarrar.

The blog post’s promotion of female terrorists also featured praise for terrorist-murderer Rasmea Odeh, and mischaracterized Odeh’s federal conviction for lying on her immigration application as part of a “concentrated state effort to suppress the support she has been extending the Arab population of Chicago.”

The blog post concluded "Smash the Patriarchy! Smash the Settler Zionist State! Free Palestine, and Free Women EVERYWHERE!"

NYC SJP - Supporting PFLP Militants

On July 21, 2016, NYC SJP posted on Facebook in support of Bilal Kayed. Kayed is a military operative with the the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), an internationally designated terrorist organization. Kayed was incarcerated for 14 years for terrorist operations committed during the Second Intifada, in 2002.

The PFLP pioneered aircraft hijackings as a high-profile means of drawing attention to their movement, most notably with the capture of an Air France plane in 1976. The hijackers flew the plane to Entebbe, Uganda where they separated nearly 100 Jewish passengers from the others — and threatened to execute one per hour. Israel, however, launched a successful commando raid to rescue the hostages.

The PFLP also claimed “credit” for the November 18, 2014 Har Nof synagogue massacre — where PFLP operatives murdered six people in a Jerusalem Synagogue with a gun, axes and a butcher knife, during morning prayers. PFLP Gaza leader, Hani Thawbta, stated: “We declare full responsibility of the PFLP for the execution of this heroic operation…”

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
