Amanda Jamal
Overview
Jamal was the treasurer of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) in 2016-2017 at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (John Jay), part of the City University of New York (CUNY).
Jamal has supported New York City SJP (NYC SJP), including attending their events. She also attended the 2016 National SJP Conference.
As of October 18, 2017, Jamal’s LinkedIn page said she was studying Political Science at John Jay and as of 2018, Jamal was listed as studying at John Jay.
Promoting Anti-Semitism
On July 1, 2014, Jamal tweeted during Israel’s Operation Protective Edge (OPE): “People be like ‘I don't get why you Palestinians hate Jewish people’ do you get it now?”Israel commenced OPE in July 2014 to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.
On April 20, 2013, Jamal tweeted in celebration of Adolf Hitler’s birthday, writing: “Happy birthday to my baby hitler though 🎉🎉🎊.”
Spreading Hatred of Israel
That same day, Jamal tweeted: “If you support Israel in any way, shape, or form you are beyond politically incorrect and misinformed.”
On September 8, 2016, Jamal tweeted: “Zionism is Terrorism.”
Anti-Israel Activism
On October 17, 2016, Jamal promoted on Twitter a Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) event at John Jay.
On July 1, 2016, Jamal indicated on Facebook that she “went” an NYC SJP fundraiser that was part of an “International Day of Al Quds” rally in Times Square, New York.
NYC SJP leader Nerdeen Kiswani also spoke at the rally, encouraging the crowd to chant [00:00:35] “There is only one solution! Intifada, Revolution!!” and, later, “Settler, Settler Go back Home! Palestine is ours alone!”
Since the early 2000s, the term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” has carried the connotation of violence.
On May 15, 2016, Jamal participated in an event co-sponsored by NYC SJP titled: “Nakba Day March for Resistance and Return.”
Protesters at the rally held signs that read: “Israel = Racism and Genocide” and screamed [00:00:31] “Settler, settler, go back home! Palestine is ours alone!!”
Supporting Campus Anti-Israel Activists
On February 9, 2017, Jamal protested Fordham’s decision to decline SJP’s request for a chapter on its campus. In 2016, Fordham reportedly blocked the formation of a Fordham SJP chapter “based on the reported behavior of other [SJP] chapters on other campuses,” indicating that “the establishment of a local branch could be ‘polarizing’ and pose a safety concern to students and faculty.”
According to a statement released by the university on the incident: “Fordham has no registered student clubs the sole focus of which is the political agenda of one nation, against another nation...The narrowness of Students for Justice in Palestine’s political focus makes it more akin to a lobbying group than a student club.”
John Jay SJP - Calling for the Dissolution of Israel: 2015-2016
On April 27, 2016, John Jay SJP posted a graphic on Facebook, showing a map of Israel overlaid entirely with the colors of the Palestinian flag and superimposed with the text: “JE SUIS ONE STATE [I am one state].”On October 4, 2015, John Jay SJP promoted on Facebook an NYC SJP statement about the BDS movement. The NYC SJP statement said the goal of BDS is the “the eventual establishment of a single Palestinian national state covering all of historic Palestine.”
The statement closed with a quote from terrorist Leila Khaled, in large, bolded text, reading: “BDS, of course, on the international level, is very effective. But it doesn’t liberate land.”
John Jay SJP - Anti-Israel Activity: 2014-2016
On October 8, 2014, John Jay SJP organized a “die-in” on campus, where students lay on the ground covered in sheets stained with red paint to resemble blood. An SJP activist at the “die-in” expressed support [00:01:14] for attacks by the terror organization Hamas on Israeli soldiers, during Operation Protective Edge (OPE).
Another SJP activist reportedly declared: “What the Israeli flag stands for is genocide.” Activists also reportedly chanted: “ “From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free.”
Other activists at the “die-in” held signs that said: “Your Tax Dollar$ Kill ONE CHILD in GAZA every HOUR #GazaUnderAttack #FreePalestine” and [00:01:40] “INTIFADA INTIFADA.” Activists also chanted [00:01:30] “when people are occupied, resistance is justified.”
On October 21, 2014, John Jay University President Jeremy Travis issued an announcement,” stating that he was “deeply troubled…by recent reports that Jewish students at John Jay College have felt intimidated and harassed on our campus.”
In response, John Jay SJP issued an open letter to President Travis calling his announcement: “the latest in a series of small acts of repression John Jay’s SJP has faced recently.”
On March 5, 2016, John Jay SJP promoted an NYC SJP event and blog post on Facebook to “commemorate International Working Women’s Day as an inseparable aspect of the fight for Palestinian liberation.”
The NYC SJP blog post promoting the event claimed that “Israel is a state that was built on the murder and rape of Palestinian women” and that “the state forces women to give birth at checkpoints, where more than half of the babies died as a result.”
A March 5, 2016 John Jay SJP Facebook post also promoting the event included quotes from the blog post that glorified convicted terrorist and Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) member Leila Khaled, for “committing her life to be a freedom fighter in the struggle for Palestinian liberation.”
The NYC SJP blog post also glorified other female terrorists, such as PFLP members Khalida Jarrar and Rasmea Odeh. The blog post concluded: “Smash the Settler Zionist State! Free Palestine.”
On April 2, 2016, John Jay SJP shared a post by anti-Israel agitator Lamis Deek on Facebook that claimed: “Black Palestinians…are doubly attacked by zionists for being Black and Palestinian” and “zionists of any color are the oppresor [sic].”
Deek, who has expressed support [00:01:15] for Hamas terrorists and white-washed the murder of Israeli civilians, is a co-founder of Al-Awda, The Palestinian Right to Return Coalition and was a board member of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in New York.
On April 18, 2016, John Jay SJP co-hosted an event featuring Deek.
John Jay SJP - Promoting Violence: 2016
On March 8, 2016, John Jay SJP promoted on Facebook photos from the teleSUR English Facebook page that were to “honor and celebrate the women of Palestine who have been resisting the colonial occupation and leading the people's uprising.”The photos showed keffiyah-masked Palestinian women holding guns, firing slingshots and collectinglarge rocks.
John Jay SJP - Supporting Terrorists: 2015-2016
On April 25, 2016, John Jay SJP shared on Facebook a BDS South Africa post in support of Dima Al-Wawi, who was imprisoned for attempting to stab an Israeli security guard. Al-Wawi said she intended to kill the guard and hoped she would be killed as well, saying: “I was dreaming that I was going to be martyred.”On January 29, 2016, John Jay SJP shared on Facebook a video of Rasmea Odeh and wrote: “#Justice4Rasmea.” Odeh was a key military operative [00:02:08] with the terrorist group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). In 1969, Odeh masterminded a PFLP bombing that killed two college students in a Jerusalem supermarket.
On August 16, 2015 John Jay SJP promoted on Facebook a protest by Within Our Lifetime, formerly known as New York City SJP, supporting Mohammad Allan.
Allan was an operative of the terror group Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), who was jailed in 2006 “for recruiting suicide bombers” and later detained for being “in contact with other PIJ terrorist operatives in order to promote terrorist attacks.” Allan was ultimately released due to deteriorating health resulting from a hunger strike but was re-arrested in 2015.
John Jay SJP - Spreading Hatred of Israel: 2016
On January 23, 2016, John Jay SJP promoted an article on Facebook from Iranian government-affiliated television station, PressTV, that claimed “British doctors have called for the removal of Israel from the World Medical Association (WMA) over claims of ‘medical torture’ on Palestinians seeking treatment.”The article referred to 71 British doctors who wrote a letter to Sir Michael Marmot, then-President of the World Medical Association (WMA) accusing Israeli doctors of “collusion with torture” and calling for WMA to expel the Israeli Medical Association (IMA).
The letter said: “Taking the precedent of the exclusion of the Medical Association of South Africa from the WMA, we submit that similar action regarding the IMA is justified by the facts.” It also said that “Failing to act…is to implicitly support the IMA position.”
The WMA President, Sir Michael Marmot, published a letter shortly thereafter saying: “the main authors of the letter have launched several attacks against the Israeli Medical Association with similar arguments in the past…Investigations have revealed no wrong doing or mishandling of the cases by the Israeli Medical Association.”
SJP
SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.
The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.
SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.
SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.
Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
