Yasmeen Hammad

Overview

Yasmeen Hammad [Yasmeen Hussein Hammad] has promoted incitement, spread anti-Semitism, defended acts of terrorism and demonized Israel. Hammad also promoted the Boycott, Sanctions, Divestment (BDS) movement.

Hammad was elected secretary of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (John Jay) for 2016-2017.

As of May 2016, Hammad was reportedly majoring in Computer Science at John Jay, which is part of the City University of New York (CUNY).

As of September 2021, Hammad went under the last name “Hussein” as indicated on her Facebook.

Promoting Incitement

On August 26, 2014, Hammad tweeted: “LONG LIVE THE INTIFADA 🙌❤️💚”

Since the early 2000s, the term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” has carried the connotation of violence.

On October 4, 2015, Hammad tweeted: “Try to make it and if you can’t, make duaa for the people of Palestine ❤️ this Tuesday 5:00!” and included a graphic with information for a rally “in solidarity with Palestine’s Day of Rage.”

The “Days of Rage” in October of 2015 were heralded by Hamas as the advent of a new intifada. They directly resulted in the deaths of Israeli civilians by shootings, stabbings and car rammings.

Protesters at the rally chanted [00:00:01] “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!” and [00:00:16] “Long live the Intifada!”

Spreading Anti-Semitism

On June 6, 2013, Hammad tweeted: “The fifth level of hell fire is for the Jews.”

On August 10, 2014, Hammad tweeted: “lmaooooo blame the yahood [Jews]😂”
Defending Terrorist Acts

On October 12, 2015, Hammad tweeted: “those zionests that have been stabbed, have been stabbed in self defense. You can't kill& kill & expect nothing in return.”

In October 2015, there was an upsurge in violence across Israel incited by Palestinian political and religious leaders. The wave of stabbings, known as the “Knife Intifada,” was characterized by young Palestinians throughout the country stabbing and attempting to stab Israeli civilians.

That same day, she also tweeted: “And if they attempted to stab you, it's because you're harassing them constantly.”

Also on October 12, 2015, Hammad tweeted: “While fighting with a Zionest, all I hear from them is ‘ Is Israel not suppose to fight back& defend itself?’ FROM ROCKS MY N***A?”

On October 12, 2015, Hammad tweeted: “there is no ‘other violence’ or stabbings. Israel kills innocent civilians & we TRY to defend ourselves,” in response to a tweet that said Israel defended itself “from rocks, molotov cocktails, stabbings and all other violence.”

Demonizing Israel

On October 18, 2015, Hammad promoted on Twitter a counter-protest against a “Jewish Lives Matter” rally, which was called to memorialize victims of the violence taking place across Israel.

Hammad’s tweet included a flier for the counter-protest, which said the Jewish Lives Matter rally was: “in response to the justified uprising of the Palestinian people.”

The counter-protests Facebook description said: “We stand against ‘Israels [sic] right to defend’ itself against innocent children and civilians who clearly pose no threat…Join us loudly in proclaiming that Resistance is not Terrorism.”

On October 12, 2015, in response to a tweet that asked: “You don't remember the 100s of rockets fired from Gaza into Israel?” - Hammad said: “no I don't remember the ‘100s’ because there weren't 100s. Now you're being over dramatic.”

Again on October 12, 2015, Hammad tweeted, referring to Operation Protective Edge (OPE): “WHAT DID THEY DO EXACTLY?! Last summer, over 10,000 Palestinian homes bombed for no reason. 2,000+ children & women dead.”

Israel commenced OPE in July 2014 to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.

On November 13, 2014, Hammad tweeted at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: “ISRAEL IS SOME BULLS**T. I'M SO MAD, FREAKIN PIGS. I WISH NOTHING BUT THE WORST FOR YOU @netanyahu die.”

On November 5, 2014, Hammad tweeted: “Omg this girl is wearing an ‘I ❤️ Israel’ shirt at the gym. Should I throw a 50 pound weight at her face or keep it cool ?”

On August 31, 2014, Hammad tweeted: “When my teacher says ‘ Israel is a strong country’ WALLAH I GO IN like nah n***a IT'S PALESTINE GET IT RIGHT.”

On July 29, 2014, Hammad tweeted: “I really want to sit down with a Zionist and see why they support Israel so much but I don't think I would able to control myself.”

Promoting BDS

On September 8, 2014, Hammad tweeted: “#BOYCOTTISRAEL !! Never stop! The people of Palestine need you more than you need Coca cola, McDonalds or any other Israeli products!”

Coca Cola operates in 14 countries in the Middle East, including Israel, where it has been since 1967. Coca Cola is targeted by BDS activists due to their Israeli operations.

On Jan 19, 2015, Hammad tweeted: “THIS WOMEN TRICKED ME INTO BUYING AN ISRAELI PRODUCT!! IT SAYS MADE IN ISRAEL. Ohhhhh she's going to get it badddd.”

John Jay SJP - Calling for the Dissolution of Israel: 2012

On October 22, 2012, John Jay SJP Founder and President Leena Widdi launched the group’s first event and announced [00:00:14] that it represented “a reset and very important shift from the occupation of 1967…focusing on the Zionist apartheid state which exists in all of Palestine.”

Widdi continued [00:00:34]: “the Palestinian right of return is one of the biggest threats to Israeli apartheid, because a non-Jewish majority would threaten the existence of a Jewish supremacist state. Therefore advocating for the Palestinian right of return is central to the struggle to disassemble the apartheid state and replace it with a single state throughout historic Palestine.”

John Jay SJP - Calling for the Dissolution of Israel: 2015-2016

On April 27, 2016, John Jay SJP posted a graphic on Facebook, showing a map of Israel overlaid entirely with the colors of the Palestinian flag and superimposed with the text: “JE SUIS ONE STATE [I am one state].”

On October 4, 2015, John Jay SJP promoted on Facebook an NYC SJP statement about the BDS movement. The NYC SJP statement said the goal of BDS is the “the eventual establishment of a single Palestinian national state covering all of historic Palestine.”

The statement closed with a quote from terrorist Leila Khaled, in large, bolded text, reading: “BDS, of course, on the international level, is very effective. But it doesn’t liberate land.”

John Jay SJP - Anti-Israel Activity: 2014-2016

On October 8, 2014, John Jay SJP organized a “die-in” on campus, where students lay on the ground covered in sheets stained with red paint to resemble blood.

An SJP activist at the “die-in” expressed support [00:01:14] for attacks by the terror organization Hamas on Israeli soldiers, during Operation Protective Edge (OPE)

Another SJP activist reportedly declared: “What the Israeli flag stands for is genocide.” Activists also reportedly chanted: “ “From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free.”

Other activists at the “die-in” held signs that said: “Your Tax Dollar$ Kill ONE CHILD in GAZA every HOUR #GazaUnderAttack #FreePalestine” and [00:01:40] “INTIFADA INTIFADA.” Activists also chanted [00:01:30] “when people are occupied, resistance is justified.”

On October 21, 2014, John Jay University President Jeremy Travis issued an announcement,” stating that he was “deeply troubled…by recent reports that Jewish students at John Jay College have felt intimidated and harassed on our campus.”

In response, John Jay SJP issued an open letter to President Travis calling his announcement: “the latest in a series of small acts of repression John Jay’s SJP has faced recently.”

On March 5, 2016, John Jay SJP promoted an NYC SJP event and blog post on Facebook to “commemorate International Working Women’s Day as an inseparable aspect of the fight for Palestinian liberation.”

The NYC SJP blog post promoting the event claimed that “Israel is a state that was built on the murder and rape of Palestinian women” and that “the state forces women to give birth at checkpoints, where more than half of the babies died as a result.”

A March 5, 2016 John Jay SJP Facebook post also promoting the event included quotes from the blog post that glorified convicted terrorist and Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) member Leila Khaled, for “committing her life to be a freedom fighter in the struggle for Palestinian liberation.”

The NYC SJP blog post also glorified other female terrorists, such as PFLP members Khalida Jarrar and Rasmea Odeh. The blog post concluded: “Smash the Settler Zionist State! Free Palestine.”

On April 2, 2016, John Jay SJP shared a post by anti-Israel agitator Lamis Deek on Facebook that claimed: “Black Palestinians…are doubly attacked by zionists for being Black and Palestinian” and “zionists of any color are the oppresor [sic].”

Deek, who has expressed support [00:01:15] for Hamas terrorists and white-washed the murder of Israeli civilians, is a co-founder of Al-Awda, The Palestinian Right to Return Coalition and was a board member of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in New York.

On April 18, 2016, John Jay SJP co-hosted an event featuring Deek.

John Jay SJP - Supporting Intifada: 2015-2016

On October 10, 2015, during the “Knife Intifada” then occuring in Israel, John Jay SJP promoted on Facebook an NYC SJP “statement of solidarity” with a Palestinian “Day of Rage” on October 6, 2015.

In October 2015, Hamas declared Palestinian “Days of Rage” to represent the start of a new intifada, directly resulting in the deaths of Israeli civilians in terror attacks.

The NYC SJP statement also expressed: “Solidarity with the intifada” and featured a graphic of a Palestinian throwing a rock, captioned: “LET THE INTIFADA PAVE THE WAY FOR PEOPLE’S WAR!”

On October 17, 2015, John Jay SJP promoted on Facebook a protest titled: “SOLIDARITY WITH THE PALESTINIAN UPRISING.” The protest was called to counter a “Jewish Lives Matter” rally, memorializing victims of the Palestinian “Knife Intifada.” John Jay SJP’s Facebook post said: “show your support for Palestinian resistance.”

The counter protest’s Facebook event description said the Jewish Lives Matter rally was: “in response to the justified uprising of the Palestinian people.” It continued: “We stand against 'Israels [sic] right to defend' itself against innocent children and civilians who clearly pose no threat…Join us loudly in proclaiming that Resistance is not Terrorism.”

On October 18, 2015, John Jay SJP posted a photo on Facebook from the protest, calling it a “complete success” and thanking the organizers and attendees: “for their great work.”

On May 13, 2016, John Jay SJP promoted an event on Facebook, co-sponsored by NYC SJP, titled: “Nakba Day March for Resistance and Return.” At the march, held on May 15, 2016, activists promoted hatred [00:00:04] against Jews who moved from New York to Israel and said: “The Brooklyn Settlers, the New York Settlers are the most violent.”

Scripted chants posted to Facebook before the rally were recited by protesters, including [00:03:16]: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” and [00:00:18] “Smash the settler-Zionist state!”

The demonstrators also chanted [00:00:41] We don’t want no two states; we want ‘48” and [00:00:20] “There is only one solution; Intifada, revolution.” Protesters at the rally held signs which read: “Israel = Racism and Genocide” and “RESISTANCE until Return & Liberation.”

John Jay SJP - Promoting Violence: 2016

On March 8, 2016, John Jay SJP promoted on Facebook photos from the teleSUR English Facebook page that were to “honor and celebrate the women of Palestine who have been resisting the colonial occupation and leading the people's uprising.”

The photos showed keffiyah-masked Palestinian women holding guns, firing slingshots and collectinglarge rocks.

John Jay SJP - Supporting Terrorists: 2015-2016

On April 25, 2016, John Jay SJP shared on Facebook a BDS South Africa post in support of Dima Al-Wawi, who was imprisoned for attempting to stab an Israeli security guard. Al-Wawi said she intended to kill the guard and hoped she would be killed as well, saying: “I was dreaming that I was going to be martyred.”

On January 29, 2016, John Jay SJP shared on Facebook a video of Rasmea Odeh and wrote: “#Justice4Rasmea.” Odeh was a key military operative [00:02:08] with the terrorist group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). In 1969, Odeh masterminded a PFLP bombing that killed two college students in a Jerusalem supermarket.

On August 16, 2015 John Jay SJP promoted on Facebook a protest by Within Our Lifetime, formerly known as New York City SJP, supporting Mohammad Allan.

Allan was an operative of the terror group Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), who was jailed in 2006 “for recruiting suicide bombers” and later detained for being “in contact with other PIJ terrorist operatives in order to promote terrorist attacks.” Allan was ultimately released due to deteriorating health resulting from a hunger strike but was re-arrested in 2015.

John Jay SJP - Spreading Hatred of Israel: 2016

On January 23, 2016, John Jay SJP promoted an article on Facebook from Iranian government-affiliated television station, PressTV, that claimed “British doctors have called for the removal of Israel from the World Medical Association (WMA) over claims of ‘medical torture’ on Palestinians seeking treatment.”

The article referred to 71 British doctors who wrote a letter to Sir Michael Marmot, then-President of the World Medical Association (WMA) accusing Israeli doctors of “collusion with torture” and calling for WMA to expel the Israeli Medical Association (IMA).

The letter said: “Taking the precedent of the exclusion of the Medical Association of South Africa from the WMA, we submit that similar action regarding the IMA is justified by the facts.” It also said that “Failing to act…is to implicitly support the IMA position.”

The WMA President, Sir Michael Marmot, published a letter shortly thereafter saying: “the main authors of the letter have launched several attacks against the Israeli Medical Association with similar arguments in the past…Investigations have revealed no wrong doing or mishandling of the cases by the Israeli Medical Association.”

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
