Emad Ramadan

Overview

Emad Ramadan has defended terrorists and spread anti-Israel propaganda as the First Vice President of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at the University of Oklahoma (OU) in 2017. Ramadan also attended the National SJP (NSJP) 2017 conference.

NSJP 2017 was held October 27-29, 2017 at the University of Houston (UH). The conference was themed “A Reimagined World: Dismantling Walls from Palestine to the Rio Grande.” Per the 2017 National SJP Conference website, the conference aimed to strengthen “collaborative efforts within all regions to pass BDS” and envision “pathways to achieving sanctions in the future.”

Ramadan was a chemical engineering senior at OU in December of 2017.

As of December 25, 2017, Ramadan’s Facebook page said he was an Arabic Language Tutor at OU.

Defending Terrorists

On September 23, 2014, Ramadan posted to Facebook: “Israel assassinates two Palestinians from Hebron this morning, under the suspicion that they had something to do with the ‘found-killed’ three settlers, three and half-months ago!”

That morning, Marwan Kawasmeh, 29, and Amer Abu Aisha, 32, were killed in a shoot-out with Israeli troops during an arrest raid. Kawasmeh and Abu Aisha were two Hamas operatives suspected of kidnapping of three Israeli teenagers from a bus stop on June 12, 2014.

The abducted boys were murdered —  and their bodies were found buried in Palestinian-controlled territory on June 30, 2014.

On September 24, 2015, Ramadan shared a video of the shooting of Hadeel Al-Hashlamoun on Facebook, adding: “Oppression, humiliation, bigotry, tyranny, subjugation, colonization and deprivation from the most basic human rights is disgusting!”

Al Hashlamoun (18-years-old) was carrying a knife through a checkpoint and did not respond to orders to step back before she was shot by Israeli soldiers.

October 2015 saw an upsurge in violence across Israel incited by Palestinian political and religious leaders. The wave of stabbings — known as the “Knife Intifada” — saw young Palestinians throughout the country stabbing and attempting to stab Israeli civilians.

On March 7, 2017, Ramadan posted on Facebook: “ #باسل_الأعرج الله يتغمدك برحمته! شهيداً شهيداً شهيداً [“#Basil Al A’araj May Allah adorn you with his mercy! Martyr martyr martyr.”].”

Basel Al Araj was killed in a shoot-out with Israeli troops during an arrest raid. He had been suspected of belonging to a terror cell planning to carry out attacks on Israeli targets. Two M-16 assault rifles and an improvised Carlo-style submachine gun were found inside his home.

On April 26, 2017, Ramadan posted to Facebook: “Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are going on a hunger-strike to resist the inhuman treatment that they and the Palestinian community face from the oppressive Israeli occupation.” Ramadan also changed his Facebook profile picture to an illustration of a Palestinian hunger-striker.

Terrorist Marwan Barghouti was sentenced to five consecutive life terms for some of his crimes, including his role in the Sbarro Cafe bombing. In 2017, he initiated the hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners known as the “Dignity Strike.” He headed the Palestinian Authority (PA) terrorist Tanzim force and founded the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, which carried out many terror attacks against Israeli civilians.

On May 11, 2017, Ramadan trivialized a teenager’s attempt to stab Israeli soldiers. He posted to Facebook: “Israeli soldiers shot a 16 years old girl in Jerusalem,” and added, “What could have she done[sic.]? Attempt to murder they say...Yeah, keep making false claims to justify barbarous acts.”

The teenager in question was Fatima Afif Abd al-Rahman Hjeiji. Hjeiji was shot after she pulled out a knife and ran toward a group of Israeli police officers while shouting “Allahu Akhbar.”

Police also found that the teen was carrying a note in which she said goodbye to her family and identified herself as a martyr.

Spreading Anti-Israel Propaganda

On October 1, 2017, Ramadan shared a Muhammad Al-Durah propaganda video to Facebook, adding: “We will never forget...When the child Mohmmad Aldorra[sic.] was brutally murdered by Israeli soldiers in his dad's arms.”

The Al-Durah hoax is an iconic piece of anti-Israel propaganda, fabricated on September 30, 2000 at the start of the Second Intifada by a France 2 reporter.

On July 21, 2014, during Operation Protective Edge (OPE), Ramadan claimed on Facebook that Israel is committing the “cleansing of Palestinians, this is aiming to kill people with no excuse, this is a genocide.”

Israel commenced OPE in July 2014, to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.

OU SJP Activism

On December 6, 2017, Ramadan led an OU SJP protest against President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and relocate the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The Facebook event description claimed that the move would “virtually [end] a prospect of a peaceful solution for long-standing conflict…” and characterized it as “a violation of international law.”

During the protest, Ramadan led [00:00:39] protesters in the chant “free Palestine - no occupation - no apartheid,” as well as [00:00:09] “From OU to DC do not move the embassy,” One demonstrator held [00:00:26] a sign that said “End Israeli Apartheid.”

Ramadan was interviewed by the student newspaper OUDaily, where he claimed that “moving the U.S. Embassy there will lead to segregation.”

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
