Abdelhamead Ibrahim
Overview
Ibrahim is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement and promoted a 2015 SJSU Divest campaign organized by SJP at SJSU.
As of October 2021, Ibrahim was a member of Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) chapter in the San Francisco Bay Area (CAIR-SFBA) “Governance Board.”
He joined the CAIR-SFBA board in 2016 and has been affiliated with the organization since 2014.
In May 2015, Ibrahim was affiliated with American Muslims for Palestine (AMP).
As of September 2021, Ibrahim’s CAIR-SFBA profile said he “held various positions on the board” of SJSU’s Muslim Student Association (MSA) chapter (SJSU MSA). His CAIR profile also said he had volunteered for the Muslim American Society (MAS).
As of October 2021, Ibrahim’s LinkedIn page said he was a “Python Developer / Information Technology / Test Technician” in Cupertino, CA. His LinkedIn page also said he studied at SJSU.
Odeh was a key military operative [00:02:08]with the terrorist group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). In 1969, Odeh masterminded a PFLP bombing that killed two college students in a Jerusalem supermarket. Odeh also attempted to bomb the British consulate.
Odeh confessed, in a highly detailed account, the day following her arrest. In a 2004 documentary, one of Odeh’s co-conspirators directly implicated [00:10:53] Odeh as the mastermind.
In 1970, an Israeli court tried and convicted Odeh for her involvement in both bombings and sentenced her to life imprisonment. However, Odeh was released 10 years later, in a prisoner swap and emigrated to the United States.
On November 10, 2014, a Michigan federal jury convicted Odeh for immigration fraud because she failed to disclose her prior conviction and life sentence on her immigration application. On March 12, 2015, she was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
In 2017, after an appeal and a lengthy court battle, Odeh admitted to immigration fraud, was stripped of her U.S. citizenship, deported to Jordan and banned from re-entering the U.S.
On June 10, 2014, Ibrahim shared to Facebook a link that directed readers to an article titled: “Take Action: Get DoJ to Drop Charges against Rasmea Odeh.”
Ibrahim wrote in his post: “Hi all Below is a link with action items we can do like calling, emailing or sending a letter to the U.S. Attorney's office. The protest is a great idea but it must be followed up with concrete actions.” The article called Odeh “a beloved leader” and was published by the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR).
Formerly known as the U.S. Campaign to End the Occupation, USCPR is a coalition of American-based anti-Israel organizations that lobbies the United States Congress to adopt anti-Israel policies and end government support for Israel.
Spreading Incitement
In the fall of 2014, Palestinian leaders and media incited a wave of violence against Israelis with the lie that Israel intended to desecrate the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. This resulted in the November 18, 2014 Har Nof massacre, in which terrorists murdered six people in a Jerusalem synagogue during morning prayers.
The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a traditional pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state.
According to a November 23, 2014 article, SJP at SJSU led the march to the San Jose City Hall and presented the mayor’s office with a “list of demands.” One demand was for the U.S. government to “stop its complicity with the violations of international law by ending U.S. military aid to Israel.”
At the march, activists reportedly chanted: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”
“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free” is a chant calling to dismantle the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state.
Disrupting a Campus Event
After the walk-out, Ibrahim said [00:01:12] to the group of activists: “I appreciate all you guys coming out here. I appreciate your dedication...good job for sticking to the program.” Ibrahim told [00:01:30] the group: “There were some moments where I felt my blood was boiling…”
On April 7, 2014, Ibrahim commented on a Facebook post: “With all due respect we interrupted IDF soldiers. The IDF has one of the worse human rights records violated 65 UN resolutions and had committed many war crimes. So interrupting them and not giving them legitimacy is our duty as humans and Palestinians Arabs and Muslims.”
Promoting Anti-Israel Agitators
On November 9, 2015, Ibrahim featured in a CAIR-SFBA Facebook group photo next to anti-Israel activists Zahra Billoo and Linda Sarsour. The photo was from CAIR-SFBA’s 21st Anniversary Banquet two days earlier where Sarsour was a featured speaker.
Billoo has spread anti-Semitism and defended the terror organizations Hamas and Hezbollah. Billoo has also equated Israel with ISIS, spread hatred of Israel, America and Zionism.
Ibrahim signed a 2015 open letter to “the U.S. Campaign and other Activists for Justice in Palestine,” which called “for an end to internal attacks on fellow activists and organizations.” The open letter stated: “we are dismayed by the recent unfounded attacks on one of the top organizations working on this issue, If Americans Knew, and its dedicated leader, Alison Weir…”
The anti-Semitic organization If Americans Knew (IAK) was founded by anti-Israel agitator Alison Weir. IAK has been condemned for anti-Semitism by both the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the anti-Israel U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR).
On February 3, 2014, Ibrahim promoted to Facebookan event that featured anti-Israel professor Hatem Bazian. Ibrahim encouragedreaders to “spread the word.” The event was titled, “Occupation 101 with Dr. Hatem Bazain,” and took place on February 4, 2014.
Hatem Bazian is the founder of the anti-Israel organizations Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and American Muslims for Palestine (AMP). Bazian has a decades-long history of incitement and of using classic anti-Semitic tropes to demonize Israel.
On February 4, 2014, Ibrahim posted on the Facebook event page: “Jazak Allah Khairan [May Allah reward you] Thank you to all the organizers and the people that attended the event. It was a good event and it exceeded expectations Alhamdulillah [Praise be to Allah].”
Promoting the Muslim Brotherhood
On August 14, 2014, Ibrahim posted an MB symbol, the “R4BIA” image, as his Facebook profile picture. The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) is a transnational Islamist organization founded in Egypt in 1928. It was designated as a terrorist organization by Egypt (2013), Saudi Arabia (2014), the United Arab Emirates (2014) and Bahrain (2017). Among its offshoots is Hamas, a terrorist group dedicated to Israel’s destruction.
Supporting BDS
On October 29, 2015, Ibrahim changed his Facebook profile picture to the SJSU Divest logo.
In November 2015, Ibrahim promoted on Facebook SJSU’s divestment campaignto launch a BDS resolution on campus.
The resolution, titled “(15/16-01) In Support of Divestment from Companies That Profit from the Israeli Occupation of the Palestinian Territories,” called on the Board of Directors of SJSU’s Tower Foundation to divest SJSU’s holdings in a number of companies doing business with Israel.
According to SJSU’s website, the Tower Foundation directly “manages all financial aspects of funds donated to” SJSU.
The resolution claimed that the listed companies violated international humanitarian law by: “Maintaining the illegal infrastructure of the Israeli occupation… Facilitating Israel’s collective punishment of Palestinian civilians… Facilitating state repression against Palestinians by Israeli security forces.”
On November 4, 2015, the divestment resolution was approved by SJSU’s University Affairs Committee of the Associated Students (AS) with a vote of5-2-0 and forwarded to the AS Board of Directors. The resolution was also endorsed by 27 other SJSU student groups.
On November 17, 2015, Ibrahim promoted SJP at SJSU’s divestment petition to the San Jose Peace and Justice Centre Facebook group and wrote: “Please take a minute to sign this Change.org petition in support of divestment from companies that profit from human rights violations committed by Israel...”
The Facebook post linked to the petition titled “PASS SJSU Divestment!” that stated: “It’s time to take a stance against unethical investments!”
On November 18, 2015, Ibrahim attended SJSU’s “Divestment Hearing and Vote” held by the AS Board of Directors. The resolution passed with a 10-5-0 vote, making SJSU the first campus in the California State University system to pass a divestment measure.
On December 15, 2015, Board Members of SJSU’s Tower Foundation unanimously rejected the divestment resolution.
On June 1, 2016, Ibrahim posted an “action alert” on the General Union of Palestine Students (GUPS) at SJSU Facebook group page. His Facebook post urged readers to oppose California’s 2016 anti-BDS bill, AB 2844, claiming that it was “a gross violation of the principle of freedom of expression.”
SJP Activism
On March 3, 2015, Ibrahim published an SJP at SJSU presentation to Prezi.com called “The Colonization of Palestine 1920’s.”
CAIR Activism
Israel commenced OPE in July 2014 to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.
On November 1, 2016, Ibrahim appeared in a CAIR-SBFA Facebook photo album taken from their “22 Annual Banquet” held at the Santa Clara Convention Center on October 29, 2016. The event featured anti-Israel activist Omar Suleiman as a speaker.
Suleiman has spread anti-Semitism, promoted incitement, tokenized anti-Israel Jews and demonized Israel.
SJP
SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.
The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.
SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.
SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.
Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
CAIR
CAIR describes itself as a “grassroots civil rights and advocacy group” and “America's largest Muslim civil liberties organization, with regional offices nationwide.” Its official mission is “enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.”
CAIR reportedly has “significant ties” to the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as Hamas. A number of former CAIR employees have been convicted on fraud and terrorism-related charges that resulted monetary fines, jail terms and, sometimes, deportation.
CAIR was founded in 1994 and opened its first office in Washington, DC, with the help of a $5,000 donation from the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF), a charity founded by Mousa Abu Marzook.
Marzook, who was listed as a "Specially Designated Terrorist" by the U.S. Treasury Department in 1995, is reportedly a senior member of Hamas.
In May 2007, CAIR was listed as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in a U.S.-filed action against the HLF for providing funds to Hamas.
CAIR was also listed as a terrorist entity by the United Arab Emirates, in 2014.
AMP
American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) was founded by UC Berkeley Professor Hatem Bazian as a vehicle to generate mainstream support in the United States for the Palestinian national cause.
On its website, the organization lists Bazian as the chairman of its national board and describes itself as “a national education and grassroots-based organization, dedicated to educating the American public about Palestine and its rich cultural, historical and religious heritage.”
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has accused AMP of promoting “extreme anti-Israel views and has at times provided a platform for anti-Semitism under the guise of educating Americans” about Palestinians. The ADL further stated that AMP is directly involved in campus-based anti-Israel activity through Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP).
Prior to founding the AMP in 2006, Dr. Bazian created SJP together with fellow UC Berkeley Professor Snehal Shingavi in 2001. The close working relationship between AMP and SJP has been documented several times over the years by several organizations, including NGO Monitor and StandWithUs.
In addition to providing financial, public relations and legal assistance to SJP, AMP has also been accused of having connections to Hamas. The AMP national board includes former members of both the Islamic Association of Palestine (IAP) and Holy Land Foundation (HLF), both of which were found liable for aiding and abetting Hamas. The IAP was founded by Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook, a senior member of Hamas.
MSA
The MSA was established by members of the Muslim Brotherhood in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with the goal of "spreading Islam as students in North America." A 2004 FBI investigation uncovered an internal Muslim Brotherhood document in which a brotherhood leader identified the MSA as "one of our organizations."
The MSA reportedly has “nearly 600 chapters” located in the United States and Canada, and is “the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America,” boasting conferences, special events, publications, websites and other activities.
The organization includes a number of previous chapter presidents with explicit links to terrorist groups. Included are al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki (Colorado State University), Somali al-Shabaab militant leader Omar Shafik Hammami (University of South Alabama) and Pakistani Taliban recruiter Ramy Zamzam of the MSA's Washington, D.C. council.
BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
