Bilal El-Yousseph

Overview

Bilal El-Yousseph [Bilal Ahmed El-Yousseph] was sentenced to federal prison in 2019, on felony charges for “brandishing a firearm during, and in relation to, drug trafficking.” El-Yousseph had been previously exposed by Canary Mission as a gun enthusiast and anti-Israel activist, who spread hatred of Israel and led multiple anti-Israel demonstrations.

El-Yousseph was an activist with Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at Ohio State University (OSU) in 2014 and a member of the Muslim Students Association (MSA) at OSU’s Facebook group.

He was also an activist with the Columbus, Ohio Palestine Solidarity Group (PSG), in 2014.

El-Yousseph advocated for a group that disrupted an on-campus talk by an Israeli Ambassador at the University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine) and has supported the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

As of December 2019, El-Yousseph was a member of the “Americans Against Genocide In Gaza (AAGG)” Facebook groups, as well as the “CODEPINK DC” Facebook group and the group “--- STOP SUPPORTING ZIONISIM ---.”

As of the same date, El-Yousseph was listed on BrokersOhio.com as a Real Estate broker with a “voided” license.

Convictions on Drug Trafficking and Weapons

On June 4, 2018 El Yousseph was arrested by local police in Westerville, OH and booked for driving while impaired. Westerville police recovered a loaded pistol, hundreds of pills, marijuana and drug packaging materials in El-Yousseph’s possession.

On July 20, 2018, El-Yousseph was processed in federal prison, after a federal grand jury indicted him on drug and weapons charges.

In 2019, a U.S. District Court found that between January and June 2018, El-Yousseph led a drug trafficking ring that engaged in a conspiracy to distribute Xanax, Adderall and marijuana.

Court documents also noted a 20-minute video recovered from El-Yousseph’s cell phone from February 2018 that showed El-Yousseph and accomplices holding hostage, and interrogating at gunpoint, someone whom El-Yousseph had accused of stealing Xanax from his drug trafficking ring.

During the interrogation, El-Yousseph repeatedly threatened to kill the suspected thief if he did not confess to stealing the pills and threatened to kill the suspected thief and his family if they reported the incident to the police.

The video showed: “the victim in his own basement writing a confession with at least two guns pointed to his head. El Yousseph directs the individual to write faster and in big letters. He tells a co-conspirator to ‘Google, What’s the most painful place to get shot?’ then places his Glock on the base of the victim’s skull”.

On August 23, 2019, El-Yousseph was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 102 months in federal prison, in accordance with a plea-bargain, “for conspiring to distribute controlled substances and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.”

On December 27, 2013, El-Yousseph starred as himself in a student film, shot at OSU where he joked [00:03:19] that his apartment was “420 friendly.” The phrase “420 friendly” refers to smoking marijuana.

Gun Enthusiast

El-Yousseph posted photos of himself brandishing handguns to Facebook as well as numerous photos of handguns and human silhouette targets.

On February 1, 2018, El-Yousseph posted a photo of himself brandishing two pistols on Facebook, as well as a photo of himself, napping, surrounded by three handguns.

On July 3, 2017, El-Yousseph posted a photo of himself holding a Glock 43 pistol on Facebook, adding: “I spoil her and she has my back everyday😍that's babe just ordered the Ets extended mags #CCW#everydaycarry #glock #Glock43 #relationshipgoals#Gungoals #2a.”

In the comment section, El-Yousseph posted a photo of additional guns in his arsenal that included an assault rifle that he claimed to keep for “home defense.” El-Yousseph commented: “... I'm thinking bout springing for a new light on my [Glock] 19 with the red dot and retire it to home defense with the AR since I got the 43 for carry now.”

On March 16, 2017, El-Yousseph posted to Facebook two photos of himself at a firing range with two pistols, including a Ruger pistol with red dot optics and hundreds of rounds of various types of ammunition.

On March 8, 2017, El-Yousseph posted a photo of his Glock 19 and Glock 43 pistols with an extended magazine and various types of ammunition on Facebook.

On February 27, 2017, El-Yousseph posted on Facebook a photo of a Ruger pistol with red dot optics, a Glock 10-8 and 500 rounds of ammunition.

On December 5, 2016, El-Yousseph posted a series of firearm photos at a shooting range, including handguns and an assault rifle with a sniper sight.

Spreading Hatred of Israel

On May 15, 2018, El-Yousseph posted to Facebook a video about violent riots on Israel’s border with Gaza, claiming: “They broke children's arms for throwing stones now they shoot their legs just for walking #Freepalestine.”

In May 2018, terror organization Hamas instigated the “March of Return.” Thousands of violent rioters attempted numerous breaches of Israel’s border fence with Gaza, seeking to harm Jews across the border. Media reports confirmed [00:00:20] protesters’ breaches and attempted breaches of the fence, some by armed Palestinians. On May 15, 2018, senior Hamas official Mahmoud Al-Zahhar said the Gaza protests were only a pretext of “peaceful resistance.”

On February 18, 2017, El-Yousseph posted to Facebook: “Real Muslims have nothing to do with Isis (israeli secret intelligence services ).”

On January 28, 2017, El-Yousseph posted to Facebook: “If you don't know now you know 😭😂reblooodicans and democrips only agree on one thing and that's serving Israel and its best interest with your tax dollars and your sons and daughters lives in wars to secure Israel's security in the middle East! America has been getting pimped by Zionism since 1948.”

El-Yousseph added in the comments sections: “same criminals just in a different gang the way I see it is they disagree on everything but always agree on one thing and that's serving their Zionist masters.”

On September 18, 2016, El-Yousseph posted on Facebook a picture of Israeli soldiers holding Israeli flags, with the caption “How muslims See ISIS.”

On August 26, 2016, El-Yousseph shared on Facebook a photo of a house on a manicured lawn with the caption “This is how European Jews live on stolen Palestinian land.” The photo was juxtaposed with another photo showing people sitting on rubble and the caption “This is how Palestinians live imprisoned in Gaza (Palestine) by ‘Israel.’”

On September 30, 2016, El-Yousseph posted a series of still frames on Facebook, cropped from a video known as “the Al-Durah Hoax.”

The Al-Durah hoax is an iconic piece of anti-Israel propaganda, fabricated on September 30, 2000 at the start of the Second Intifada by a France 2 reporter.

El-Yousseph wrote: “16 years ago on this day twelve-year-old Mohammed al-Dura and his father Jamal plead for their lives with Israeli #Occupation soldiers the answer to their pleads was captured by #Frenchnews station and this #injustice #inspired me to be the #activist I am today.”

On December 16, 2016, El-Yousseph shared on Facebook a link to the anti-Israel film “Roadmap to Apartheid,” a film that compared Israel to Apartheid South Africa.

Anti-Israel Protests

In 2015, El-Yousseph led [00:01:13] a “Shut Down AIPAC [American Israel Public Affairs Committee]” rally. During that demonstration, demonstrators prominently displayed Hezbollah flags and chanted: “Judaism Yes. Zionism no! The state of Israel’s got to go!”

On November 26, 2014, during Operation Protective Edge (OPE), El-Yousseph led [00:02:04] an-anti Israel demonstration where he alleged that the media was deliberately covering up the torture and murder of Palestinian children.

Israel commenced OPE in July 2014 to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.

At the protest, El-Yousseph also accused [00:03:36] those who don’t boycott Israel of contributing to “the slaughter of people” and “even if it’s unknowingly, you’re responsible for murder, you’re responsible for genocide.”

BDS Support

On August 12, 2016, El-Yousseph celebrated the BDS movement on Facebook, congratulating Lebanese, Saudi Arabian, Jordanian, Egyptian and Tunisian Olympians who refused to play against Israeli competitors.

El-Yousseph added: “Great message for ‘ Israel ’ and great support for #Palestine #FreePalestine #EndIsraeliIllegalOccupation#BoycottIsrael”

On November 26, 2014, during OPE, El-Yousseph led [00:02:04] an-anti Israel demonstration.

During the demonstration, El-Yousseph called [00:03:25] on the demonstrators to get involved and “google BDS.”

Endorsing Campus Disruption

On January 2, 2012, El-Yousseph promoted on Facebook a group called “drop all charges against the Eleven” and wrote: “Much Respect for these students, the greatest struggle is telling the truth to the face of the oppressor please join the group and stand with the eleven who stood for truth.”

The “Irvine 11” were a group of eleven University of California students, many of whom belonged to the Muslim Student Union (MSU), who were detained by police for disrupting a speech given by then-Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren, in 2011.

Among the students was Taher Herzallah, the Associate Director of Outreach & Grassroots Organizing of American Muslims for Palestine (AMP). Herzallah has expressed support for violence against Israeli Jews, spread an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory and posted pro-terrorist imagery to social media.

Ten of the eleven students were charged and reportedly found guilty of “two misdemeanors to conspire and then disrupt” Oren’s speech. The MSU was briefly suspended by the university.

SJP OSU

Students for Justice in Palestine at OSU (SJP OSU) was formerly known as the Committee for Justice in Palestine (CJP), until 2016.

SJP OSU - Spreading Incitement 2013-2015

On September 23, 2015, SJP OSU promoted an event on Facebook titled: “#AlAqsaUnderAttack: The Treatment of Sacred Palestinian Places of Worship Under the Occupation.”

The event’s Facebook description claimed that there have been “attacks of Masjid Al-Aqsa, the third-holiest site in the Islamic faith, by the Israeli Defense Forces.”

On September 13, 2015, masked Palestinian rioters barricaded themselves inside the Al Aqsa Mosque. They set off fireworks, starting a small fire, and threw stones and debris stored inside the mosque at Israeli police. The police later found pipe bombs the rioters had prepared to launch at Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount plaza.
.

In October 2015, there was an upsurge in violence across Israel incited by Palestinian political and religious leaders. The wave of stabbings, known as the “Knife Intifada,” was characterized by young Palestinians throughout the country stabbing and attempting to stab Israeli civilians. The attacks were incited by Palestinian leaders propagating the libel that Israel intended to desecrate the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

On November 3, 2014, SJP OSU co-sponsored and promoted on Facebook a “Hands Off Al Aqsa!” event.

The event’s Facebook description said: “When will we stop rallying? When Palestine is FREE! Religious freedom is under attack! As humans, we cannot stand around and watch as Palestinians are robbed of their religious freedom.”

On October 30, 2014, after a terrorist attempted [00:00:13] to assassinate Rabbi Yehuda Glick, triggering a temporary closure of the the Temple Mount, SJP OSU posted to Facebook an Al-Jazeera article titled: “Shutdown of Al-Aqsa mosque a ‘declaration of war’ say Palestinian leaders.”

SJP OSU - Spreading Hatred of Israel 2014-2016

On April 2, 2016, SJP OSU promoted on Facebook an event the group hosted as part of Birzeit University’s “Right to Education” tour.

The Right to Education Tour brings Birzeit University students to U.S. campuses, where they claim that Israel is obstructing the rights of Palestinians to higher education. This claim mischaracterizes the sweeps Israeli security forces have made to shut down terror cells operating on the Birzeit campus, including cells linked to Hamas

On November 6, 2015, SJP OSU posted an article on Facebook that claimed Israel harvested organs from the bodies of killed Palestinians. The accusation was made by the chief Palestinian delegate at the United Nations, Riyad Mansour. Israel’s then-U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon wrote to the U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon demanding that he condemn the accusation.

On October 2, 2014, SJP OSU posted a graphic on Facebook that read: “#JSIL.”

The hashtag “#JSIL” means “Jewish State in the Levant” and is used as a way of comparing Israel to the Islamic State (ISIS), also known as the Islamic State in the Levant (ISIL).

SJP OSU’s Facebook post linked to an Al Jazeera social media stream post that spread an effort by Twitter users “to rebrand Israel as [Islamic State and the Levant] ISIL, renaming it ‘The Jewish State of Israel in the Levant.’”

On September 26, 2014, SJP OSU posted on Facebook a graphic featuring a series of misleading maps that presented lands once controlled by Britain, Egypt and Jordan as autonomous “Palestinian land,” purportedly stolen by Israel. SJP OSU also featured these maps as part of their mock “apartheid wall,” during Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) .

Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) is presented as “an international series of events that seek to raise awareness of…Israel’s settler-colonial project and apartheid system over the Palestinian people” and build support for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.

PSG

The Palestine Solidarity Group (PSG) describes itself as "a coalition of individuals and groups in the city of Columbus opposed to the occupation of Palestine."

PSG’s Facebook posts have celebrated violence against Israel, and demonized Israel and justified terrorism.

MSA

The MSA was  established by members of the Muslim Brotherhood in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with the goal of "spreading Islam as students in North America." A 2004 FBI investigation uncovered an internal Muslim Brotherhood document in which a brotherhood leader identified the MSA as "one of our organizations."

The MSA reportedly has “nearly 600 chapters” located in the United States and Canada, and is “the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America,” boasting conferences, special events, publications, websites and other activities.

The organization includes a number of previous chapter presidents with explicit links to terrorist groups. Included are al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki (Colorado State University), Somali al-Shabaab militant leader Omar Shafik Hammami (University of South Alabama) and Pakistani Taliban recruiter Ramy Zamzam of the MSA's Washington, D.C. council.
