Sarah Essa
Overview
Sarah Essa has equated Israel with Nazi Germany, promoted anti-Israel conspiracy theories and expressed support for terrorists. Essa has also spread hatred of Zionists and Israel on Twitter. In 2016, Essa was affiliated with the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter at the Rutgers University-New Brunswick campus (Rutgers) and was listed as a member of its private Facebook group.
Essa is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
As of September 2023, Essa had been a “Member” of the Rutgers Muslim Students Association (MSA) Facebook group since October 19, 2016. In 2019, her LinkedIn profile said she served as the Secretary and then the Vice President of MSA in high school.
In May 2018, Essa was listed as Rutgers’ Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) chapter “secretary for the past two years.”
The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) was reportedly set up to “provide urgent humanitarian care for Gaza’s children.” It has been financially linked with the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF), which was shut down by the U.S. government for funneling donations to terrorist organizations.
On May 13, 2018, Essa tweeted that she “officially graduated from@RutgersU !!! Journalism/Media Studies x Middle Eastern Studies in da bag…” As of September 2023, Essa’s LinkedIn said she also graduated with an associates degree from Middlesex College (Middlesex) in 2015.
As of September 2023, Essa went by the username “ سارة [Sarah]” and used the handle “@Saressaa” on Twitter.
Equating Israel with Nazi Germany
On July 4, 2014, Essa tweeted: “Boggles my MIND how the ancestors of these people were victims of the holocaust, and here they are, blatantly torturing another population.”On July 21, 2014, Essa tweeted: “Israel = Zionism = purely ‘Jewish’ state. Whatever the f**k that means. Just like Hitler wanted a pure Aryan state. Educate yourself.”
Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.
Israel commenced OPE in July 2014 to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.
Promoting Anti-Israel Conspiracy Theories
On February 25, 2016, Essa tweeted: “Damnnnn I wonder who's gunna be the next president of the United States of Israel!!!!”Anti-Israel activists invoke the conspiracy theory of Israeli and Jewish control over the U.S. government. Proponents of the theory decry negative effects on American interests, particularly in foreign policy.
On January 29, 2015, Essa tweeted: “Nothing says America more than an ‘Israeli flag’ lmfao [laughing my f**king a** off] so done with these clowns in office.”
On November 7, 2014, Essa tweeted: “Boils my blood that the Israeli gvt has been brewing up a disgusting plan to destroy&take over Al Aqsa. F**k off.Thats what u call EXTREMISM.”
The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state. Such propaganda has led to multiple periods of violence against Israeli civilians.
Supporting Terrorists
On July 12, 2015, Essa tweeted: “Posted this 168 weeks ago, 3 yrs ago.. today #KhaderAdnan was released yet again by Israel. May it be the last time.”Khader Adnan was a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist organization. A 2007 YouTube video showed Adnan praising and encouraging suicide bombings: "Who among you will carry the next explosive belt? Who among you will fire the next bullets? Who among you will have his body parts blown all over?” In May 2023, Adnan died in prison after refusing medical treatment during a hunger strike.

RT @PalAnonymous: Breaking: #Palestinian 16 yrs murdered by #israeli police in #Jerusalem.” The tweet was about Ali Muhammad Abu Ghannam who was shot dead after attacking Israeli Border Police officers with a cleaver. Hatred of Zionists
On January 22, 2016, Essa tweeted about the former Cleveland Cavaliers coach, David Blatt, and wrote: “F [F**k] David Blatt #zionist.”On July 9, 2015, Essa tweeted: “Lmao [laughing my a** off] Zionists need to gtfo [get the f**k out] of my mentions.”
On June 16, 2015, Essa tweeted: “Cry ur crocodile Zionist tears David Blatt
.”Spreading Hatred of Israel
On May 15, 2021, during Israel’s Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW) against Hamas, Essa posted a TikTok video taken at an anti-Israel protest organized by Within Our Lifetime (WOL) in Brooklyn, New York. She commented on the post: “#fyp [for your page] #palestine #endtheoccupation” and the video featured a sign that said [00:00:13]: “THERE IS ONLY ONE SOLUTION, INTIFADA REVOLUTION.”In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.
On May 8, 2021, Essa tweeted about Israel: “You should be fully embarrassed if you continue to defend a government and settlers enacting full on apartheid, ethnically cleansing and terrorizing people for several decades.”
On January 6, 2016, Essa tweeted: “The moment you call out Israel on their war crimes&apartheid state & police brutality & systematic ethnic cleaning of Palestinians.. Ur done.”
On September 13, 2015, Essa tweeted: “Israeli government is one big gang of f**kboys.”
On December 2, 2014, Essa tweeted: “Prime Minister of Israel swears his APARTHEID ‘country’ is the only democracy in the Middle East..... Repeat after me: f * * k b o y s.”
In the same thread, she tweeted: “...Khara 3la kolohom [s**t on them all] :).”
On November 7, 2014, Essa tweeted: “I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. I see no difference between ISIS and the State of Israel. Extremist cowards.”
On September 3, 2014, Essa tweeted: “There you have it. ISIS committing horrible things in the name of Islam and Israel committing horrible things in the name of Judaism. Cute.”
On July 16, 2014, during OPE, Essa tweeted: “Everyday I get more & more disgusted by Israel & even more appalled at how anyone continues to justify this s**t. Evil is too nice of a word.”
On July 10, 2014, Essa tweeted in opposition to Israel’s security barrier: “Berlin Wall vs Palestine Wall. I laugh at anyone who claims Israel isn't a racist, colonial, Apartheid state.”
Israel’s security barrier, 97 percent of which is a low chain-link barrier, was built as a deterrent to Palestinian terror attacks. The concrete portions of the fence were built in response to Palestinian sniper attacks.
RT @AliAbunimah: I can't wait until Israeli apartheid exists only in the Israeli Apartheid Museum. The day will come.”On June 30, 2014, Essa tweeted: “And No this isn’t a justification for Israel, it’s simply the continuation of an ethnic cleansing that’s been going on for decades.”
On February 13, 2013, Essa tweeted: “Israel is a model of evil that has been a curse on humanity ever since its inception in 1948.”
SJP
SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.
The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.
SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.
SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.
Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
MSA
The MSA was established by members of the Muslim Brotherhood in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with the goal of "spreading Islam as students in North America." A 2004 FBI investigation uncovered an internal Muslim Brotherhood document in which a brotherhood leader identified the MSA as "one of our organizations."
The MSA reportedly has “nearly 600 chapters” located in the United States and Canada, and is “the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America,” boasting conferences, special events, publications, websites and other activities.
The organization includes a number of previous chapter presidents with explicit links to terrorist groups. Included are al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki (Colorado State University), Somali al-Shabaab militant leader Omar Shafik Hammami (University of South Alabama) and Pakistani Taliban recruiter Ramy Zamzam of the MSA's Washington, D.C. council.
