Bayan Mia

Overview

Bayan Mia spreads hatred of Jews and Israel on social media through her Twitter account. She is also a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Mia is an activist with the Arab Resource & Organizing Center (AROC) based in San Fransisco, operating in the Bay area. Mia promotes anti-Israel demonstrations organized by AROC.

As of July 2018, Mia’s Facebook page said that she studied at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis).

Jew Hatred

In an August 11, 2014 Twitter conversation with Yara Elhindi Mia tweeted: “@yaraelhindi that's true bes I think it would be fine, or inshAllah by then it would be. I can't stand seeing yahood [Jews] though.” Elhindi replied: “tbh seeing them there is kinda funny. Like they just don't fit in! Anti-Semitic Conspiracy Theories

Hatred of Israel

On July 16, 2014, Mia tweeted: “If you're a zionist, f**k you and f**k what you stand for.”

On May 26, 2015, Mia tweeted: “F**k Israel idc.”

On July 30, 2014, Mia tweeted: “The last thing I need is a childish piece of f**king shit zionist in my mentions.”

Demonizing Israel

On July 6, 2014, Mia tweeted: “‘@Sumi_hasan: Israel are the new Nazis. And @netanyahu is the new Hitler ‘ exactly.”

On July 22, 2014, Mia tweeted: “I would never forgive a zionist that was involved in the genocide of my people. Never. #FreePalestine.”

Spreading Incitement

On September 13, 2015, Mia tweeted: “I woke up in a good mood but then get on Twitter and find out Masjid al-Aqsa was attacked by Israel.”

The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a traditional pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state. Such propaganda served as the excuse for an upsurge in Palestinian violence that flared in the fall of 2015 and incited Palestinians to attempt mass casualty attacks on Israeli civilians in July 2016..

On July 4, 2014, Mia tweeted a cartoon of a man wearing a bib with a Jewish State of David — representing Israel — cutting into a Palestinian child on a plate. The knife is inscribed “Muslim Silence” and the fork pinning the child to the plate is decorated with the Stars and Stripes of the United States. Mia commented: “Beyond accurate.”

Demonizing The U.S.-Israel Relationship

On May 26, 2015, Mia tweeted: “America & Israel are the devils.”

On July 31, 2014, Mia tweeted: “@BarackObama f**k you for aiding Israel with billions of dollars.”

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
