Izz Aryan

Overview

Izz Ayran was president of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at George Washington University (GWU) from November 2015 to May 2016. He served as vice president from March 2015 to November 2015 and Outreach Director from August 2014 to March 2015.

Aryan was also Outreach Director of GWU Arab Student Association (GWU ASA) between August 2014 and March 2015.

Aryan is a student at GWU, majoring in Political Science.

Hosting Bil’in Protests Coordinator

On April 9, 2015, Aryan promoted a GWU SJP event featuring Iyad Burnat. Burnat is the coordinator of the Bil’in popular resistance committee and has organized weekly demonstrations against the Israeli West Bank security barrier since 2005. These demonstrations have often turned violent, involving Palestinian stone-throwing.

Burnat has defended stone throwing — claiming hurling rocks "fits into nonviolent struggle. Throwing stones at criminals is not a crime." Burnat has also equated Israel with Hitler and ISIS and called Zionism a “racist ideology.”

GWU SJP - Promoting Dima Al-Wawi

On April 25, 2016, GWU SJP shared on Facebook a news article featuring pictures of Dima Al-Wawi.

12-year-old Al-Wawi was imprisoned for attempting to stab a security guard at the Israeli community Karmei Tzur. Al-Wawi later claimed she intended to kill the guard and hoped she would be killed in the process. “I was dreaming that I was going to be martyred,” she said.

GWU SJP - Promoting Terror Ties

On April 25, 2016, GWU SJP promoted Ramallah-based Birzeit University’s Right to Education tour. The tour hosted students from Birzeit at the university who spread anti-Israel propaganda at various events.

Birzeit’s student body elected Hamas to power in 2003, 2015 and 2016.

In January of 2016, Birzeit characterized an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) sweep, looking for terror cells operating from Birzeit’s campus as a "belligerent ... attack on the university and our right to education and all the principles involved in the freedom of education."

GWU SJP – Celebrating Violence

On March 8, 2016, GWU SJP shared, with supportive comments, photos of numerous women — masked by Keffiyehs — brandishing guns, firing slingshots and collecting large rocks.

On March 12, 2014, GWU SJP posted on Facebook in support of terrorist Rasmea Odeh.

Odeh was a key military operative [00:02:08]with the terrorist group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). In 1969, Odeh masterminded a PFLP bombing that killed two college students in a Jerusalem supermarket. Odeh also attempted to bomb the British consulate.

Odeh confessed, in a highly detailed account, the day following her arrest. In a 2004 documentary, one of Odeh’s co-conspirators directly implicated [00:10:53] Odeh as the mastermind.

In 1970, an Israeli court tried and convicted Odeh for her involvement in both bombings and sentenced her to life imprisonment. However, Odeh was released 10 years later, in a prisoner swap and emigrated to the United States.

On November 10, 2014, a Michigan federal jury convicted Odeh for immigration fraud because she failed to disclose her prior conviction and life sentence on her immigration application. On March 12, 2015, she was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

In 2017, after an appeal and a lengthy court battle, Odeh admitted to immigration fraud, was stripped of her U.S. citizenship, deported to Jordan and banned from re-entering the U.S.

GWU SJP - Pushing BDS on GWU

On March 14, 2016, GWU SJP shared on Facebook a campaign letter demanding Sabra Hummus be banned from campus because the Strauss Group, which partly owns Sabra was “providing care packages to [Israel Defence Forces] IDF soldiers” who GWU SJP accused of committing “a plethora of human rights violations.”

GWU SJP - Idolizing Mads Gilbert

On November 14, 2015, GWU SJP posted on Facebook an article idolizing Dr. Mads Gilbert and decrying that he was "hit with a lifetime ban from entering Gaza by the Israeli government."

Gilbert has been banned indefinitely from entering Gaza through Israel because of his connections to the Hamas leadership.

In 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2014 Gilbert was stationed at a hospital that served as a Hamas command center and rocket launching site. During that time he acted as a propagandist for the Hamas government in Gaza.

In 2001, following al Qaeda's September 11 terrorist attacks, Gilbert expressed support for the terror acts as a “legitimate response.” In December of 2009, Gilbert was accused of faking resuscitation on a dead child in Gaza for dramatic effect for a CNN video.

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
