Mariam Husain

Overview

Mariam Husain [Mariam Alvena Husain] has spread hatred of Israel.

In July 2022, Husain was reportedly “a community grower.”

Husain was an activist with the Muslim Student Association (MSA) at UTK (UTK MSA) in 2019 and 2015.

Husain graduated [p.8] from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 2020.

As of March 2023, Husain used the handle “@Palestarican” on Twitter and “@palestariam” on Instagram. As of the same date, Husain went by the username “Mariam Atatrah” and the handle “@mariam.f.husain” on Facebook.

As of March 2023, Husain’s Facebook said she lived in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Hatred of Israel

On August 9, 2016, Husain tweeted: “... all of my real Jewish friends, I'm sorry that Zionists think they represent you. Sincerely praying for change.”

Husain retweeted an August 7, 2016 tweet that said: “F**k Zionism 🇵🇸.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.

Husain retweeted a May 15, 2016 tweet referencing the day after Israel declared independence. The tweet said: “May 15, 1948: One of history's greatest atrocities, the theft of Palestine, al-Nakbah aka ‘the disaster’. #NakbaDay.”

The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.

Husain retweeted a March 20, 2016 tweet that said: “ZIONISM IS NOT JEWISH. /
Zionism is imperialism / Zionism is apartheid / Zionism is supremacy / Zionism is settler-colonialism / Zionism is violent.”

Husain retweeted an October 18, 2015 tweet by the anti-Israel organization Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) that included an image of maps titled: “Palestinian Loss of Land 1946-Present.”

The maps claim that lands once controlled by Britain, Egypt and Jordan as autonomous “Palestinian land” were purportedly stolen by Israel. In February 2016, publisher McGraw-Hill Education recalled copies of a college textbook containing the fraudulent maps. In October 2015, American cable news network MSNBC apologized for airing a similar series of maps and retracted them.

MSA

The MSA was  established by members of the Muslim Brotherhood in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with the goal of "spreading Islam as students in North America." A 2004 FBI investigation uncovered an internal Muslim Brotherhood document in which a brotherhood leader identified the MSA as "one of our organizations."

The MSA reportedly has “nearly 600 chapters” located in the United States and Canada, and is “the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America,” boasting conferences, special events, publications, websites and other activities.

The organization includes a number of previous chapter presidents with explicit links to terrorist groups. Included are al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki (Colorado State University), Somali al-Shabaab militant leader Omar Shafik Hammami (University of South Alabama) and Pakistani Taliban recruiter Ramy Zamzam of the MSA's Washington, D.C. council.
