Ayman Elkasrawy
Overview
Ayman Elkasrawy spread incitement and anti-Semitism while leading a prayer service at the Masjid Toronto Mosque in 2016. He has also spread hatred of Israel on Twitter.In 2017, a video of Elkasrawy delivering the anti-Semitic prayer service surfaced online, sparking outrage. Following the incident, Elkaswary was reportedly suspended from his role at the Masijd Toronto Mosque and fired from his teaching assistant position at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. TMU was known as Ryerson University (Ryerson) until April 2022.
However, according to Elkasrawy’s LinkedIn profile, he continued to work for TMU’s Centre for Urban Energy (CUE) as a graduate research associate from “Sep 2013 - Apr 2020.”
As of August 2023, Elkasrawy’s LinkedIn said he received a PhD in electrical engineering from TMU in 2020 and a master's degree in electrical engineering in 2010.
Elkasrawy was also a full-time postdoctoral research fellow at TMU’s CUE from “Apr 2020 - Feb 2021.” In addition, he wrote that he was employed by TMU as a part-time “Teaching Assistant/Lab Instructor” from “Sep 2008 - Dec 2016.”
Elkasrawy’s LinkedIn also said he has been a transmission planning engineer at AVANGRID since June 2022. His LinkedIn said he was located in Rochester, New York.
As of August 2023, Elkasrawy was listed as an instructor for Ayaat ILM Academy. In 2019, he featured as an “Esteemed” speaker for a Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) Youth event and was listed on their website as an “assistant imam at Masjid Toronto.”
In September 2016, MAC posted a photo of “Sh. [Sheikh]” Elkasrawy on Instagram delivering a speech.
Elkasrawy continued [00:00:37]: “O Allah! Purify Al-Aqsa Mosque from the filth of the Jews! O Allah! Purify Al-Aqsa Mosque from the filth of the Jews!”
The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state. Such propaganda has led to multiple periods of violence against Israeli civilians.
Ramadan is an Islamic holy month during which Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset and are meant to engage in self-reflection, repentance and the giving of charity. Ramadan is frequently marked by increased anti-Israel and antisemitic rhetoric throughout the Arab world, Palestinian violence in Israel and heightened tensions centered in the Old City of Jerusalem.
On February 20, 2017, after the video was exposed online, Elkasrawy tweeted “...In my supplication my intention was to refer to a very specific political situation that is the result of military occupation...”
On February 28, 2017, TMU reportedly fired Elkaswary. The following day, TMU’s presidential office released a statement stating that TMU had “taken appropriate action.” Furthermore, the MAC had reportedly suspended Elkasrawy from his position as a “junior employee.”
Israel commenced OPE in July 2014 to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.
Elkasrawy retweeted an August 1, 2014 tweet during OPE that read: “Questions: Optimistic? Answer: Very. Colonizing Agents are regimes & elites that are organically & spiritually dying. Israel is falling apart. Youth of the [Islamic] nation in both sexes are like the beginning generation: It’s definitely the continuation.”

During Israel’s Operation Protective Edge (OPE) against Hamas, Elkasrawy retweeted a July 30, 2014 tweet in Arabic that translated: “Events in Gaza, no matter how you disagree with the resistance, they are Muslims and their enemy is an infidel who doesn’t believe in Allah.”Israel commenced OPE in July 2014 to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.
