Nihal Al Qawasmi

Overview

Nihal Al Qawasmi has glorified a terrorist, pushed anti-Israel conspiracy theories, spread hatred of Israel and promoted the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. In 2014, Al Qawasmi founded a chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at Pace PLV (Pace PLV SJP) and was also its president.

Al Qawasmi is the co-founder of MissMuslim.nyc and was its editorial director in 2016.

As of June 2020, Al Qawasmi’s LinkedIn page said she was a Social Media Consultant and Freelance Writer. As of the same date, her Facebook page said she resided in New York.

Also as of June 2020, Al Qawasmi’s LinkedIn page said she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts & Journalism and Political Science from Pace University (Pace) in 2017.

In high school, Al Qawasmi glorified terrorists, spread anti-Semitism, promoted incitement and spread hatred of Israel.

Glorifying a Terrorist

On March 15, 2015, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “This Is the Poignant Story of Rasmea Odeh http://muslimgirl.net/11056/story-behind-woman-rasmea-odeh/ #Justice4Rasmea.” She linked to an article on MuslimGirl.com about Rasmea Odeh, that said: “The story of Rasmea Odeh is one of resilience and tenacity in the face of frequent state-sponsored resistance.”

Odeh was a key military operative [00:02:08]with the terrorist group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). In 1969, Odeh masterminded a PFLP bombing that killed two college students in a Jerusalem supermarket. Odeh also attempted to bomb the British consulate.

Odeh confessed, in a highly detailed account, the day following her arrest. In a 2004 documentary, one of Odeh’s co-conspirators directly implicated [00:10:53] Odeh as the mastermind.

In 1970, an Israeli court tried and convicted Odeh for her involvement in both bombings and sentenced her to life imprisonment. However, Odeh was released 10 years later, in a prisoner swap and emigrated to the United States.

On November 10, 2014, a Michigan federal jury convicted Odeh for immigration fraud because she failed to disclose her prior conviction and life sentence on her immigration application. On March 12, 2015, she was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

In 2017, after an appeal and a lengthy court battle, Odeh admitted to immigration fraud, was stripped of her U.S. citizenship, deported to Jordan and banned from re-entering the U.S.

Pushing Anti-Israel Conspiracy Theories

On November 13, 2014, Al Qawasmi was quoted in a Pace Chronicle article as claiming: “People don’t know that the [chemicals and tear gas] used on people in Ferguson [Missouri] are always tested on Palestinians. They’re like lab rats… [We can connect] those two struggles, and show how colonialism and militarism aren’t just third world issues. Oppressed people need to stand together.”

On February 22, 2015, Al Qawasmi tweeted an article from Maan Palestinian news agency, quoting its headline in her tweet: “Hundreds of Palestinians flee as Israel opens dams into Gaza Valley.”

The allegation that Israel opened dams to flood Gaza was spread by news outlets including AFP France, Al Jazeera, the Daily Mail and Palestinian news agencies Ma’an and Al Wafa.

The Daily Mail issued a correction, that “In fact, there are no dams in southern Israel” and Al Jazeera retracted its article, writing that its accusation “was false. In southern Israel, there are no dams of the type which can be opened.”

Spreading Hatred of Israel

On December 8, 2017, a blogger from Gaza posted photos from Al Qawasmi’s Instagram account on Twitter with the caption: “#TimesSquare a few minutes ago, flooded with Palestinians & Pro Palestinians chanting for #Jerusalem against #injustice & occupation. Taken from Nihal Qawasmi's Instagram stories.”

Al Qawasmi had written text across one of the photos that said: “Get out to Times Square now people.”

The rally was hosted by the New Jersey chapter of American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) and theColumbia chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), among others, to protest the U.S. government’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

At the protest, speakers led participants in chanting [00:00:01] “we don’t want no two states, we want ‘48” and [00:01:48] “there is only one solution, intifada revolution.” Protesters also chanted [00:40:43] “Khaybar Khaybar ya Yahud.”

The chant “Khaybar Khaybar, ya yahud, Jaish Muhammad, sa yahud,” (Jews, remember Khaybar, the army of Muhammad is returning”) recalls the early 7th century Battle of Khaybar, where Muhammad with his followers massacred the Jews of that town and then enslaved the surviving women as “wives.”

Also at the protest, anti-Israel activist Lamis Deek led chants [00:00:46] of “intifada, intifada, long live the intifada” and “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”

Since the early 2000s, the term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” has carried the connotation of violence.

Another speaker, Mohammad Qatanani of the Islamic Center of Passaic County in New Jersey, said: “Our message to the Palestinian Authority: you have to stop all kinds of peace processes… we have to start a new intifada.” He led protesters in chanting “intifada, intifada” and “with our souls and our blood we’ll redeem you Al Aqsa.”

The chant: “be-ruh be-dam nifdik ya Aqsaبروح ودم نفديك يااقصى [With spirit, with blood, we will redeem you, Aqsa]” can be heard [00:01:14] at anti-Israel rallies [00:02:19] in America. Yasser Arafat popularized the chant [00:00:23], which is invoked by anti-Israel protesters regarding a variety of causes.

Anti-Israel activist Nerdeen Mohsen Kiswani also said about Israel [00:36:42]: “Their time is limited, their time is up. It’s up to all of us here… to keep this resistance going, if we want to see Israel fall within our lifetime.”

Sayel Kayed, who also spoke, said [00:06:13]: “Today we announce the official death of the peace accords! Death to the peace accords! Today we officially announce Palestine is from the River to the Sea!”

On October 23, 2015, Al Qawasmi wrote in a post on MuslimGirl.com that the word coexistence “perpetuates the idea that Palestine is in a ‘conflict’ rather than calling the situation what it really is: a straight up attack on humanity … we’re denied our right of return…”

The “right of return” is a Palestinian demand discredited as a means to eliminate Israel. International law mandates no absolute right of return and UN Resolution 194, which defined principles for “refugees wishing to return to their homes,” was unanimously rejected by Arab nations following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

On May 15, 2015, Al Qawasmi published a post on MuslimGirl.com titled: “Commemorating 67 Years of Al-Nakba.” She wrote: “On this day, we commemorate this tragedy and day of rage… Al-Nakba is yesterday, today, and everyday that Falasteen is still occupied… one day, a day that is very near, Falasteen will roar with freedom from the river to the sea.”

The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.

On July 8, 2014, Al Qawasmi shared to Facebook a post whose the author recalled telling a “Zionist” professor how she supports violence against Israel.

The Facebook post Al Qawasmi shared concluded: “Israel is a plague on the world of politics and a cancer on human norms. There is no ‘politically correct’ way to refer to the Zionist entity, and it is not worthy of any legitimization as a sound state, let alone a democracy.” Al Qawasmi commented: “This.”

On July 7, 2014, Al Qawasmi tweeted about Israel’s Operation Protective Edge (OPE) against Hamas: “Israel launched a ground invasion against an unarmed people. The next person that calls this a ‘war’ - please exit my life. It's a massacre.”

Israel commenced OPE in July 2014 to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.

Hamas fired over 4,564 missiles and rockets at Israeli population centers during Operation Protective Edge (OPE) in July 2014.

Promoting BDS

On July 14, 2015, Al Qawasmi featured as a Pace PLV SJP member, in a video published on YouTube, titled: “We Are The Freedom Flotilla.” The video description said: “Boston Area SJPs Call for BDS in New Video Response to Israel's Obstruction of Freedom Flotilla III.”

The “Free Gaza Movement” [Gaza Freedom Movement] has organized boats to Gaza meant to “break the siege,” including a May 2010, “Freedom Flotilla.” Activists on board the lead ship, the Mavi Marmara, were found to be carrying crude weapons and initiated an organized, violent confrontation with Israeli forces.
In the video, Al Qawasmi urged [00:01:40] viewers to “organize in your community and join the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.”

On May 26, 2014, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “. @jtimberlake: Cancel Apartheid Israel Show & stand on the right side of history. Stand for justice, not apartheid.” The tweet linked to a petition calling for artist Justin Timberlake to cancel a scheduled performance in Israel. Timberlake performed in Tel Aviv on May 28, 2014.

On March 17, 2014, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “. @Beyonce, don't play apartheid Israel. A feminist stands for ALL women, including displaced Palestinian women.” The tweet linked to a petition initiated by former UCLA SJP board member Angelica Becerra, that called on artist Beyonce to cancel a rumored performance in Israel.

The petition claimed Beyonce was scheduled to play to a “segregated audience” and that “This boycott is ‘inspired by the struggle of South Africans against apartheid.’”

SJP Activism

On September 28, 2014, Al Qawasmi wrote on Facebook: “Students in the NY/NJ area humbly request YOUR help to make their attendance at the 4th annual National SJP conference possible! Help us make it to Boston so we can bring back all of the necessary skills needed to continue the solidarity movement on our campuses!
Please share + donate if you can. Everything counts”

Al Qawasmi linked in her Facebook post to a fundraising page soliciting financial support to help New York and New Jersey SJP chapters attend the 2014 National SJP Conference in Boston, hosted at Tufts University.

On October 3, 2014, Al Qawasmi posted on Facebook: “Here's why you should help NY/NJ SJPs get to Boston for the upcoming #NSJP conference!” Al Qawasmi’s post linked to a video asking [00:00:11] for financial support to help New York and New Jersey SJP chapters attend that year’s National SJP Conference in Boston.

On October 12, 2014, Al Qawasmi also shared to Facebook the fundraising page, titled: “Help SJP in NY/NJ Go To NSJP Boston.” Al Qawasmi wrote in her Facebook post: “Peeps- pls check this out. We only have about 10 days before the NSJP conference takes place! All is greatly appreciated!”

In October 2014, Al Qawasmi reportedly attended the 2014 National SJP Conference, held at Tufts University, in Boston from October 24-26, 2014.

Clothing was sold at the 2014 conference, including a shirt with the image of airplane hijacker Leila Khaled, a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), with the text: “resistance is not terrorism.”

On March 13, 2015, Al Qawasmi featured in a photo of Pace PLV SJP members who built a “mock apartheid wall” as part of their 2015 Israel Apartheid Week.

Israel’s security barrier, 97 percent of which is a low chain-link barrier, was built as a deterrent to Palestinian terror attacks. The concrete portions of the fence were built in response to Palestinian sniper attacks.

Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) is presented internationally as a “series of events that seeks to raise awareness of…Israel’s settler-colonial project and apartheid system over the Palestinian people.” One of its goals is to build support for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. IAW has been renamed Palestine Awareness Week.

One section of the wall featured a series of maps titled: “PALESTINIAN LOSS OF LAND.”

The maps claim that lands once controlled by Britain, Egypt and Jordan as autonomous “Palestinian land” were purportedly stolen by Israel. In February 2016, publisher McGraw-Hill Education recalled copies of a college textbook containing the fraudulent maps. In October 2015, American cable news network MSNBC apologized for airing a similar series of maps and retracted them.

On August 30, 2015, Al Qawasmi tweeted a link to an online Youcaring and GoFundMe fundraiser, soliciting funds for NYC SJP to attend the 2015 National SJP conference in San Diego. Al Qawasmi wrote in her tweet: “pls help/share!”

The fundraising page featured a promotional video in which SJP leader Leena Widdi led NYC SJP members at a protest in chanting [00:01:07] “N-Y-P-D! How do you spell ‘murderers!’ I-D-F.”

On October 15, 2015, Al Qawasmi featured in a photo published to Facebook by National SJP at their 2015 conference at San Diego State University (SDSU).

High School Glorifying Terrorists

On February 16, 2013, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “May god give you the strength & patience to keep the resistance going, Samer. And may the people who detained you, rot in hell. #IssawiRage.”

Samer Issawi is a member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) who received a 26-year prison sentence in 2002. During the second intifada, Issawi manufactured and distributed pipe bombs and fired indiscriminately on Israeli civilian vehicles. In December 2013, Issawi called for the kidnapping of Israelis, saying: “The [Palestinian] prisoners' release will be brought about by kidnapping and [prisoner] exchanges. Nothing will happen without that.”

On December 3, 2012, Al Qawasmi tweeted a mural of Leila Khaled holding an assault rifle. Al Qawasmi’s tweet said: “Iconic Leila Khaled; 1st female 2 hijack an israeli plane in '69, freedom fighter, symbol of resistance &member of PFLP.”

Khaled is a leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and participated in the hijacking of TWA Flight 840 in 1969 and El Al Flight 219 in 1970. As of 2017, Khaled was a member of PFLP's Political Bureau.

Khaled has said that the second intifada failed because it was not violent enough, advocated for the use of children in terror activities and compared Zionists to Nazis.

The PFLP claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing carried out on December 25, 2003, on a bus stop at the Geha Interchange on the outskirts of Tel Aviv, Israel. Four people were killed in the attack and 16 injured. claimed responsibility for the attack.

On October 7, 1985, between Alexandria, Egypt and Haifa, Israel, a four-member PFLP squad hijacked the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro, as it was sailing from Alexandria, Egypt, to Israel. The squad murdered a wheelchair-bound U.S. citizen, Leon Klinghoffer, by throwing him in the ocean. The rest of the passengers were held hostage for two days and later released.

On February 18, 2012, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “Seriously, if you're going to wear the kuffiya, at least know what the terms nakba and intifada mean. At least support Khader Adnan.”

Khader Adnan was a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist organization. A 2007 YouTube video showed Adnan praising and encouraging suicide bombings: "Who among you will carry the next explosive belt? Who among you will fire the next bullets? Who among you will have his body parts blown all over?” In May 2023, Adnan died in prison after refusing medical treatment during a hunger strike.

Also on February 18, 2012, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “The media is turning a blind eye to #KhaderAdnan. Only Jewish prisoners deserve media attention #Hungerstrike63days.”

High School Anti-Semitism

On September 23, 2011, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “‘...Falasteen ibladna Wel yahood ichlabna Bedooko 3ala bwabna Mitel el sha7adeen.’ [Palestine is our country and the jews are our dogs, they knock on our doors like beggars.] Love it! And you speak fala7y!? [like a peasant] Lol.”

On December 13, 2011, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “Wearing my Palestinian hatta to the doctor's office. He's a jew. Watch him purposely give me the wrong medicine. Lol.”

On March 19, 2012, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “#YouKnowYoureArabWhen everything is the ya7ood's fault.”

On May 7, 2012, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “...It's el blad ibladna wil yahood ichlabna [the country is ours and the jews are our dogs].”

On the same date, she tweeted: “Falasteen ibladna. Wil ya7ood iklabna. Da2oo 3ala ibwabna, zai el sha7adeen. [Palestine is our country, Jews are our dogs, they knocked on our doors as beggars.]

On August 11, 2012, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “Allah ya5od el ya7ood. [Let Allah punish the Jews.]”

On November 18, 2012, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “wallah twitter is being a yahoodi [Jew] right now.”

On February 13, 2013, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “@ThisIsPalestine @yasirtineh all zionists claim they're ‘chosen people’ and you just contradicted yourself. Zionists all over the world.”

On February 5, 2013, Al-Qawasmi tweeted: “@PaliBeautii94 just easily say, you dislike Israelis, not yahood. There's a difference.”

On July 21, 2013, Al-Qawasmi tweeted: “... Point is, you shouldn't keep saying yahood. The klab [dog] are called Zionists.”

High School Promoting Incitement

On February 11, 2012, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “Everyone's talking about how the invasion of Al Aqsa will be the spark of a 3rd Intifada. We should be ready to defend! #SaveAlAqsa #AlAqsa.”

The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a traditional pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state.

In the fall of 2014, Palestinian leaders and media incited a wave of violence against Israelis with the lie that Israel intended to desecrate the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. This resulted in the November 18, 2014 Har Nof massacre, in which terrorists murdered six people in a Jerusalem synagogue during morning prayers.

Such propaganda also served as the excuse for an upsurge in Palestinian violence that flared in the fall of 2015 and incited Palestinians to attempt mass casualty attacks on Israeli civilians in July 2016. On July 14, 2017, terrorists who reportedly feared that “Al Aqsa is in danger,” murdered two Israeli police officers outside the entrance to Al Aqsa.

Also on February 11, 2012, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “Israel plans on taking action and destroying Al Aqsa at 8am! Ya rabi e7mi el qods [oh Lord protect Al Quds.] This can't be happening. #PrayForJerusalem #SaveAlAqsa.”

On the same date, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “#WeWillFightBack get ready to defend Al Aqsa!”

Again on February 11, 2012, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “Where are the muslims? Al Aqsa needs you. #ProtectAlQuds #SaveAlAqsa #Intifada3 #WeWillFightBack.”

Later on, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “...did you hear what's going on in falasteen? israel is planning on destorying al aqsa at 8am.”

In February 2012, Israel temporarily closed the Temple Mount to foreign visitors and tourists as a precaution against reports of possible disturbances. Muslim worshippers were still allowed to enter Al Aqsa. On February 24, 2012, Palestinians violently rioted on the Temple Mount, hurling stones at security forces.

On November 21, 2012, Al-Qawasmi tweeted: “it's not over until all of Palestine is liberated. no justice, no peace.”

High School Spreading Hatred of Israel

On June 10, 2013, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “Please sign this petition to help stop
@AliciaKeys from playing in #Apartheid #Israel this July!”

Al Qawasmi’s tweet linked to a petition that claimed that artist Alicia Keys was “scheduled to play to a segregated audience in Israel” and that “This boycott is ‘inspired by the struggle of South Africans against apartheid.’”

On February 18, 2013, Al-Qawasmi tweeted: “I call 4 revolution. INTIFADA. Start me in Syria, send me 2 Gaza. From the city where either u pray 4 victory, or scream ‘bury me a martyr.’" The quote is a song lyric from [00:00:32] an Islamist-themed propaganda song.

On December 16, 2012, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “It's not rocket science. Israel is an apartheid ‘state,’ w/ unjust & discriminatory laws & I, charge every1 who supports it, a war criminal.”

On December 11, 2012, Al Qawasmi tweeted an article titled: “25 Years Later: Remembering the First Intifada” and wrote in her tweet: “Beautiful. A must read.”

The first intifada lasted from 1987 to 1991 and resulted in over 120 Israeli civilian casualties. Palestinian gunmen hijacked multiple buses and carried out shooting, stabbing and bombing attacks against Israelis, including the bombing of the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem.

On May 23, 2012, Al-Qawasmi tweeted: “‘This is for palestine, ramallah, west bank, gaza, it's about time we globalized the intifada.’” The quote is a lyric from [00:00:06] an anti-Israel song titled: “Long Live Palestine.”

On March 18, 2012, Al Qawasmi tweeted: “Israel IS nothing. RT ‘@xosalamxo: Israel IS khara [s**t] RT @PaliGada: @xosalamxo true wallah /: ugh khara [s**t] on Israel.’”

Pace PLV SJP - Supporting Intifada 2015

On October 17, 2015, during the Palestinian “Knife Intifada,” Pace PLV SJP promoted on Facebook an event titled: “SOLIDARITY WITH THE PALESTINIAN UPRISING.”

October 2015 saw a wave of stabbings, known as the “Knife Intifada,” where young Palestinians throughout Israel were stabbing and attempting to stab Israeli civilians. The upsurge in violence across Israel was incited by Palestinian political and religious leaders. The attacks were sparked and fueled by Palestinian leaders propagating the libel that Israel intended to desecrate the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

Pace PLV SJP’s event was called to counter a “Jewish Lives Matter” rally that memorialized victims of the “Knife Intifada.”

Pace PLV SJP’s Facebook post promoting its event said: “Resistance is justified when ppl are occupied. So we hope you all come out tomorrow and speak up!”

The Facebook description for Pace PLV SJP’s event said: “We stand against 'Israels [sic] right to defend' itself against innocent children and civilians who clearly pose no threat…Join us loudly in proclaiming that Resistance is not Terrorism.”

During Pace PLV SJP’s event, Nerdeen Mohsen Kiswani, a NYC SJP co-founder, led a crowd in chanting [00:00:36]: “1,2,3,4 occupation no more, 5,6,7,8 smash the settler-Zionist state!” followed by [00:01:21] “there is only one solution, Intifada, Revolution!”

The term “intifada” has carried the connotation of violence, since the early 2000’s.

Other protesters at the rally shouted [00:01:42]: “Falasteen ibladna Wel yahood ichlabna,” in Arabic, meaning: “Palestine is our country and the Jews are our dogs.”

Pace PLV SJP - Spreading Hatred of Israel 2015-2016

In 2015, Pace PLV SJP held a series of events for Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW).

Israel Apartheid Week (IAW), which has been re-named Palestine Awareness Week, is an annual event to build support for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement and “to raise awareness of Israel’s settler-colonial project and apartheid system over the Palestinian people.”

The Pace PLV SJP IAW events included a panel to promote SJP and BDS, as well as a screening of the anti-Israel documentary: “Occupation 101.”

Occupation 101 is narrated by anti-Israel agitator Alison Weir, founder of the controversial website If Americans Knew (IAK). Weir is notorious for writing an article that endorsed a Swedish newspaper’s blood libel — claiming Israel harvested Palestinian organs.

Pace PLV SJP also displayed a “mock apartheid wall,” condemning Israel’s security barrier.

Israel’s security barrier, built as a deterrent to Palestinian terror attacks, is 97% low chain-link barrier. The concrete portions of the fence were built in response to Palestinian sniper attacks.

The “mock apartheid wall” featured a panel that said: “Symbolizing Palestinian Right of Return.” The Palestinian demand for a “right of return” has been discredited as a way to eliminate the State of Israel.

In March and April 2016, Pace PLV SJP again hosted events for IAW. The events included another mock apartheid wall display and a screening of a film titled: “Roadmap to Apartheid,” which compared Israel to Apartheid South Africa. The film was narrated by Alice Walker, who has excused suicide bombings and reportedly compared Israelis to Nazis.

Also as part of the 2016 IAW, Pace PLV SJP hosted a panel event titled: “Revitalizing the One State Solution.” The Right and the Left have denounced the “one-state solution” as a scheme to dissolve Israel as the Jewish State.

The panel featured New York City SJP leaders Dan Cione, Nerdeen Kiswani and Leena Widdi, who proposed replacing Israel with a “Palestinian National Democratic State” that would “integrate Israelis into Palestinian society.” Cionewas quoted in Pace’s student newspaper as claiming: “Palestinians are tortured. People are shot for walking on Jewish roads.”

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
