Margaret DeReus
Margaret DeReus [Margaret Zaknoen DeReus] promoted hatred of America and Israel as the executive director of the anti-Israel organization, the Institute for Middle East Understanding (IMEU). She also spread an antisemitic conspiracy theory and is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
The profilee's activism occurred during an extended period of global antisemitism that began with the October 7, 2023, terror attacks, when Hamas murdered nearly 1,200 Israelis, injured thousands and kidnapped hundreds. Israel immediately launched a war against Hamas in Gaza.
As of October 2026, DeReus's LinkedIn said she was IMEU's executive director.
As of February 2026, DeReus was listed as the executive director of the anti-Israel political action committee (PAC) called the Peace, Accountability, and Leadership PAC (PAL PAC).
As of September 2026, DeReus was listed as having made contributions to the campaigns of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) congressional candidates like Darializa Avila Chevalier, Claire Valdez, Chris Rabb, and Cori Bush, all of whom are anti-Israel. Chevalier has promoted hatred of America and expressed support for terrorists.
DSA's ideology includes anti-American and abolitionist elements. DSA justified Hamas murdering 1,200 Israelis on October 7, 2023.
As of August 2026, DeReus was affiliated with Michigan Democratic nominee for Senate Abdul El Sayed. Axios.com has reported that "El-Sayed has called Israel a 'rogue state,' accused it of genocide and apartheid, and has declined to say whether Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish state."
As of October 2026, DeReus's LinkedIn said she was located in Irvine, California.
