Zohran Kwame Mamdani
Zohran Kwame Mamdani is a New York State assemblymember and 2025 mayoral candidate for the City of New York, who has justified Hamas terrorism, spread an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory and promoted hatred of Israel and the police.
Mamdani has also engaged in anti-Israel activism, including "blocking the entrance of the New York Stock Exchange."
In October 2023, Mamdani was arrested for "disorderly conduct" while participating in an anti-Israel protest and blocking traffic outside a senator's home. He has also expressed support for anti-Israel organizations and anti-Israel agitators.
Mamdani's anti-Israel activism took place during Israel’s war against Hamas terrorists. Israel launched the war after the October 7, 2023, terror attacks.
Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis, injured thousands and kidnapped hundreds more that day. For more information, see the Canary Mission page on Hamas.
Mamdani was the co-founder of the anti-Israel campus group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at Bowdoin College (Bowdoin SJP).
In May 2021, Mamdani led a chant in support of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement at an anti-Israel protest organized by the pro-terror activist group Within Our Lifetime (WOL).
For more information on WOL's incitement to violence against Jews, see Canary Mission's campaign titled: “Within Our Lifetime: The NYC Org Inciting Its Activists To Violence.”
In a January 2024 interview, Mamdani expressed support for the anti-Israel organizations Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and IfNotNow (INN).
In 2025, Mamdani was a member of the anti-Israel group Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
As of June 2025, Mamdani was listed on the New York State Assembly website as an assemblymember for the 36th Assembly District.
As of the same date, Mamdani's website said he was running for mayor of the City of New York , whose campaign was being pushed by anti-Israel agitator Linda Sarsour.
Mamdani graduated from Bowdoin with a bachelor's degree in Africana studies.
Zohran Mamdani is the son of anti-Israel professor Mahmood Mamdani who has called for Israel's destruction.
On October 8, 2023, Zohran Mamdani shared on X his official statement as an assembly member on the "ongoing violence in Israel and Palestine."
In his statement, Mamdani promoted the idea of "Nakba" and wrote that "the path toward a just and lasting peace can only begin by ending [Israeli] occupation and dismantling apartheid.”
The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by drawing a comparison to the Holocaust, known in Hebrew as the Shoah, meaning “catastrophe.”
On October 7, 2023, Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis, kidnapped hundreds and wounded thousands. War crimes included mass rape and torture. Many Palestinian civilians participated in and supported the attacks, and Gazans working in the targeted Israeli communities gave intelligence to Hamas on where to strike.
For more information, see the Canary Mission page on Hamas.
On June 5, 2021, Zohran Mamdani promoted JVP's "Deadly Exchange” campaign in an interview posted on YouTube.
The accusation that Israeli law enforcement teaches American police brutal tactics during police exchange programs is used to demonize Israel. Participants in these programs have stated [00:02:14] that the training in Israel focuses [00:13:36] on public policy, counterterrorism and leadership training in the form of lectures and discussions.
During the June 2021 interview, Mamdani said [00:00:18]: "Our city and state governments have partnerships with Israeli municipalities and the state and that we can hold our governments accountable by really going after those partnerships...with the goal of dismantling them."
Zohran Mamdani then said [00:00:39]: "When I think of partnerships, I think of how the NYPD [New York Police Department] and the IDF [Israel Defense Forces] have had a relationship for many years."
Zohran Mamdani continued [00:00:46]: "A relationship that has meant, you know, tactics of oppression crossing from one country to the other and that has meant an increased, you know, surveillance and oppression of marginalized people wherever they may be. And I think that the Jewish Voice for Peace had a spotlight on this relationship."

On October 31, 2024, during Israel's war against Hamas terrorists, Zohran Mamdani wrote on X: "I will always be clear in my language and based in facts: Israel is committing a genocide."
On February 22, 2024, Mamdani spoke at an anti-Israel protest, saying [00:00:01]: "We are here today because AIPAC is suppressing American public sentiment! We are here today because they are subverting American democracy!"
The stated mission of American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is to “strengthen, protect and promote the U.S.-Israel relationship in ways that enhance the security of the United States and Israel.”
On May 31, 2023, Mamdani wrote on X, expressing support for a speech given by anti-Israel agitator Fatima Mohammed at her CUNY Law School graduation ceremony.
Mamdani wrote that "Fatima Mousa Mohammed’s remarks are not hate speech" since it was acceptable to criticize "Israeli settler colonialism, Zionism."
On December 7, 2020, Zohran Mamdani wrote on X that the NYPD was a "wicked & corrupt" institution and called to "Defund it. Dismantle it."
In a video shared on X on June 7, 2025, Mamdani said [00:00:24] during a webinar: "We need to...defund the NYPD."
Mamdani then said [00:00:41]: "There is also one [moment] of opportunity here for us to take this newfound energy that so many people have towards the NYPD and towards the carceral state, and channel it into creating a future where it does not exist."
On October 14, 2024, Zohran Mamdani wrote on X, referring to a protest organized by the anti-Israel group Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP): "NOW: I’m with @jvpliveNY blocking the entrance of the New York Stock Exchange."
In the same post, Mamdani also wrote: "As Israel escalates its genocide against Palestinians and pushes the region toward all-out war, the largest weapons producers are making record profits."
In May 2023, Mamdani introduced a bill into the NY State Assembly titled "Not on our dime!: Ending New York funding of Israeli settler violence act," which would prohibit New York-registered charities from donating to organizations that support Israeli activity in the West Bank.
In May 2024, the bill's scope was expanded "in light of the surge in NY-based charitable organizations fundraising to support the Israeli military, which...is plausibly committing genocide in Gaza."
The bill's sponsors defined themselves as a "group of individuals and organizations who believe that our state should not be complicit in genocide or apartheid." The bill's sponsors include the DSA and the New York chapters of JVP and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
On March 13, 2024, Mamdani wrote on X: "I joined over 3,000 New Yorkers for a 5K run in the rain that raised over $2 million for @unrwausa..."
The United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) has been infiltrated by Palestinian terrorist organizations to wage war against Israel under the guise of UN immunities. UNRWA employs terrorists who indoctrinate children to hate Jews and kill Israelis. UNRWA facilities, schools and medical clinics are systematically used as terrorist command centers and weapons depots. UNRWA also provided electricity to Hamas’s main data center and UNRWA employees have kidnapped and held hostage Israeli civilians.
On December 10, 2023, Mamdani wrote on X: "Last weekend, we held...an all-day soccer tournament fundraiser for @UNRWA..."
In the same thread, Mamdani wrote: "Our efforts to create this space to gather in solidarity...began more than a year ago," when he sent an email to the UNRWA USA National Committee's director of philanthropy.
On January 10, 2014, while in college, Zohran Mamdani co-authored an op-ed for The Bowdoin Orient titled: "Mills' rejection of ASA boycott misunderstands the movement."
The op-ed spoke for "all members of Students for Justice in Palestine," and urged Bowdoin to join the American Studies Association (ASA)'s "important academic boycott."
On December 4, 2013, the ASA National Council voted to support the academic boycott against Israel.
The op-ed also said: "The call for the boycott comes in response to more than 60 years of Israeli colonial occupation of Palestine."
The modern State of Israel was founded in 1948.
On October 13, 2023, Zohran Mamdani wrote on X, referring to a JVP protest: "Please join @jvpliveNY, myself and hundreds of other New Yorkers tonight at this rally to speak out against the indiscriminate killing of Palestinians as we sit on the brink of a genocide."
In November 2021, Mamdani signed a letter from the Middle East Democracy Center (MEDC), titled: "Hundreds of Organizations Demand Biden Administration Condemn Israel’s Crackdown on Human Rights Groups."
The letter condemned the "Israeli government’s recent decision to outlaw and criminalize" six anti-Israel organizations. Among the organizations outlawed by Israel was Addameer.
Addameer is an NGO that advocates on behalf of prisoners held in Israeli jail, including many terrorists such as Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) recruiters Mohammad Allan and Khader Adnan. Addameer’s senior leadership includes [pp. 29-35] senior Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terrorists like Khalida Jarrar, whom Addameer also advocates for. In 2021, Israel officially designated Addameer as a terror organization.
On October 24, 2013, while in college, Zohran Mamdani wrote on X that Bowdoin SJP was "so excited to be hosting" for a lecture Ali Abunimah, the co-founder of the anti-Israel publication Electronic Intifada (EI).
On October 26, 2023, Mamdani shared on X a photo with anti-Israel politician Rashida Tlaib and wrote: "It was an honor to meet @RashidaTlaib this summer. She inspires me...Where others draw the line at Palestine, she continues forward..."
On April 18, 2024, Mamdani wrote on X, referring to anti-Israel activists arrested at Columbia University's pro-Hamas encampment as students arrested "for the crime of peacefully protesting against genocide."
On April 17, 2024, Columbia students and anti-Israel activists set up a pro-Hamas “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” on the university's main lawn. Many participants were arrested and the encampment featured multiple violent incidents, including taking over a campus building and taking a university worker hostage.
On April 7, 2025, Mamdani gave an interview to anti-Israel influencer Hasan Piker who had previously denied [00:00:12] Hamas October 7, 2023 rape crimes and referred to Hamas terrorism as "resistance."
On October 7, 2023, Hamas raped both women and men. Some were raped and murdered or mutilated. Hamas terrorists said they were given explicit orders to carry out those atrocities on both live victims and corpses.
Denial of the Hamas war crimes of October 7, 2023, among anti-Israel activists has been likened to Holocaust denial among neo-Nazis.
SJP is the leading student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses. The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian, who has spread anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campus campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks and pushing the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, and SJP chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for terrorists.
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by pro-terror activist Omar Barghouti in 2005 to turn “Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.” Barghouti has also called for Israel's destruction and the BDS movement demands would result in that same goal.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been infiltrating university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments propose resolutions to boycott or divestment from Israel or Israeli-affiliated entities. BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents and pro-terror activism on campus.
