Supporting Violent Protests

On March 27, 2020, Singh was featured [slide 3] in a John Jay SJP Instagram photo where he commemorated the March of Return, which began two years earlier.

On March 30, 2018, about 30,000 Gazans approached Israel’s border fence to join in “Land Day Protests,” which were also called the “March of Return.” The march was organized and funded by Hamas as a campaign of violent protests to spotlight the “right of return,” a policy discredited as a means to eliminate Israel.

Most of the Gazans who died between March 30 and April 6, 2018, were identified as terror operatives who were killed while carrying out terrorist attacks, rioting against IDF forces or attempting to breach the border fence between Israel and the Gaza Strip.

March participants sent scores of kites bearing explosive devices across Israel’s border to burn Israeli crops and homes. Participants also attempted to breach the border fence, which caused the Israeli Defense Forces to respond with live fire. Agitators also threw Molotov cocktails and firebombs, shot firearms and threw rocks.

Media reports confirmed [00:00:20] the March of Return protesters’ breaches and attempted breaches of Israel’s border fence, some by armed Palestinians. One Hamas leader declared [00:00:30]: “We will take down the border [with Israel] and we will tear out their hearts from their bodies.”

The John Jay SJP post where Singh was featured read: “Two years ago on land day, tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza gathered by the illegitimate israeli separation fence demanding the right to return to their homeland….”

Israel’s security barrier, 97 percent of which is a low chain-link barrier, was built as a deterrent to Palestinian terror attacks. The concrete portions of the fence were built in response to Palestinian sniper attacks.

The “right of return” is a Palestinian demand discredited as a means to eliminate Israel. International law mandates no absolute right of return and UN Resolution 194, which defined principles for “refugees wishing to return to their homes,” was unanimously rejected by Arab nations following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

The John Jay SJP post also said: “Palestinians remain trapped in the most densely populated region in the world, an open-air prison…We demand an end to the blockade in Gaza and an end to all U.S. military aid to Israel…”

Referring to Gaza as an "open-air prison" is a way to delegitimize the United Nations-approved [pp. 39–41] joint Israeli-Egyptian blockade of the Gaza Strip imposed in 2011 to prevent Hamas from acquiring more sophisticated rockets.

Anti-Israel Activism (SJP, WOL)

On September 26, 2019, Singh appeared [slides 1, 3] in group photos posted to John Jay SJP’s Instagram from an SJP general meeting. The meeting’s Instagram post included a graphic called “Handala,” a symbol supporting the “right of return.”

On October 22, 2019, Singh ran [slide 10] a John Jay SJP event titled: “What’s the Tea?” He ran the event alongside his fellow John Jay SJP executive board members Nora Abuhamdeh and Reihan Ahmed.

On October 30, 2019, Singh appeared [slide 1] in a group photo posted to John Jay SJP’s Instagram from their panel event titled: “The Struggles of Student Activism in Post Truth Times.” The event featured John Jay SJP founder Leena Widdi.

On January 31, 2020, Singh participated [slide 2] in a John Jay SJP rally titled: “Say No to the Steal of the Century. Palestine is Not for Sale.” WOL and other anti-Israel groups co-organized the protest. Among the co-organizers was Samidoun: Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network (Samidoun), which the Israeli government lists as a terror group. The protest took place in Manhattan, New York.

On January 28, 2020, U.S. President Donald Trump proposed a peace plan, referred to as the “Deal of the Century,” to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The proposed deal included land concessions by both sides of the conflict.

At the January 31, 2020 rally, Abuhamdeh spoke on behalf of John Jay SJP and said [00:00:13]: “The deal of the century is actually more like the steal of the century. It’s an insult to Palestinians living abroad and to activists living here like us.”

Abuhamdeh continued [00:00:22]: “The United States has never been the fair broker as they claim to be. This deal is going to harm us now but we will continue to resist and continue to fight...”

Among Palestinians and anti-Israel activists, the term “resistance” can be a euphemism for nationalistic terror. It is often used to excuse or even glorify anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence.

On February 1, 2020, Singh commented on John Jay SJP’s Instagram post about the January 31, 2020 event, writing: “Revolution is justified, when people are occupied.” Singh’s comment was a variation of the anti-Israel chant: “Resistance is justified, when people are occupied.”

On February 4, 2020, Singh appeared [slides 1, 2] in a series of group photos posted to John Jay SJP’s Instagram from the college’s annual club fair event, where and others promoted SJP. Singh posed alongside John Jay SJP executive board members Abuhamdeh, Ahmed and Lena Ghrama.

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

WOL

Within Our Lifetime (WOL) is a pro-terror activist group in New York City dedicated to Israel’s destruction within the lifetime of its members.

Acts of violence and physical confrontations with police have frequently occurred at WOL protests and marches. WOL uses harassment campaigns to target pro-Israel organizations or companies that do business with Israel, making it a part of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Multiple activists who have either burned Israeli flags or led chants at WOL rallies were later jailed for violent anti-Semitic hate crimes, including Saadah Masoud and Waseem Awawdeh. In Masoud’s case, he received 18 months in jail for an anti-Semitic assault at an April 2022 WOL rally and two other anti-Semitic assaults in 2021.

WOL promotes “resistance” against Israel “by any means necessary,” calls to “Globalize the Intifada,” spreads incitement and idolizes [00:34:06] Palestinian terrorists like Leila Khaled and others at rallies and online events.

WOL was founded by Nerdeen Kiswani and Dan Cione in 2015. Kiswani is a frequent speaker at WOL rallies where she has promoted terrorism against Israelis and called for the death of Zionists. She has also provided support for Masoud and other activists following their arrests.

WOL began as the New York City chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), going by NYC SJP, but changed its name in 2018. The group is not found to be registered in any U.S. state as a nonprofit organization under its official name. Nor is there any listing for WOL under its name on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website for tax-exempt organizations.
