On October 7, 2023, the day Hamas terrorists massacred 1,200 Israeli Jews, Fúnez-Flores tweeted a quote attributed to Marxist philosopher Franz Fanon.

Fúnez-Flores’s tweet said: “Colonialism only loosens its hold when the knife is at its throat. —Frantz Fanon. Free #Palestine.”

On October 8, 2023, Fúnez-Flores tweeted a poem attributed to Arab-Israeli activist Dareen Tatour: “Resist, my people, resist them… / I will not succumb to the ‘peaceful solution,’ / Never lower my flags / Until I evict them from my land…”

In October 2015, Tatour was placed under house arrest for incitement to violence and for support of a terrorist organization on social media. Tatour had supported the terror group Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and posted to Facebook: “I am the next shahid [martyr].”

Anti-Israel activists use the term “resistance” to refer to violence and terror perpetrated against Israeli civilians and their allies. It is used to glorify and encourage anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence. Anti-Israel activists chant slogans such as: “Resistance by any means necessary!” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” in response to terror attacks.

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, approximately 2,900 heavily armed Hamas terrorists breached Israel’s border with Gaza. They executed numerous war crimes on civilians, including mass murder, beheadings of children, rape of men and women, torture, kidnappings and mutilation.

Hamas broadcast videos of their butchery on social media, often to victims’ accounts for families to see. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.” As of November 10, 2023, approximately 1,200 Israelis, the vast majority of them civilians, were murdered during the attacks. Hamas kidnapped 242 Israelis, including at least 30 children. At least 3,500 people were wounded, many severely.

A terrorist detained by Israel admitted he raped an Israeli woman when he broke into a kibbutz house during the October 7, 2023 attack. In March 2024, a former hostage of Hamas publicly stated she was sexually abused and tortured while in captivity.

On March 3, 2024, Fúnez-Flores tweeted a quote attributed to Marxist anti-Israel activist Angela Davis. He wrote: “The fraudulent rape charge stands out as one of the most formidable artifices invented by racism. —Angela Davis.”

Denial of the Hamas war crimes of October 7, 2023, among anti-Israel activists has been likened to Holocaust denial among neo-Nazis.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas raped both women and men. Some were raped and murdered or mutilated. Hamas terrorists said they were given explicit orders to carry out those atrocities on both live victims and corpses.

On January 18, 2024, Fúnez-Flores tweeted: “Occupying colonial powers do not have the right to defend themselves, nor do they have the right to exist.”

On January 10, 2024, Fúnez-Flores tweeted: “...There’s no such thing as a war against Hamas. It’s genocide.”

On October 7, 2023, Fúnez-Flores tweeted: “I don’t think the term ‘civilian’ accurately reflects occupying Palestinian lands, violently displacing Palestinians, and benefiting from settler colonialism?”

On March 4, 2024, the Texas Tech System News announced that Fúnez-Flores was “suspended with pay pending an investigation…whether any of [his] antisemitic sentiments…have found their way into the classroom or the work environment and are deemed to be discriminatory harassment.”

However, as of March 5, 2024, Fúnez-Flores, who also goes by Jairo I. Fúnez-Flores, was still listed on the TTU website as an assistant professor of curriculum studies and teacher education at the university’s College of Education.

As of the same date, Fúnez-Flores was listed on the TTU website as having received a PhD in curriculum studies from Purdue University (Purdue) in Lafayette, Indiana. He graduated from State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo) with a master’s degree in multidisciplinary studies.

Also as of March 5, 2024, Fúnez-Flores’s Twitter bio said he was located in Houston, Texas.
