Sunita Viswanath

Sunita Viswanath is a professional activist who participated in the pro-Hamas encampment at Columbia in April 2024. The encampment was also in support of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

On April 28, 2024, Sunita Viswanath was featured in an Instagram video participating [00:28:58] in the encampment at Columbia, where she spoke as the Hindu representative during an interfaith service event.

During her speech, Viswanath said [00:29:08]: “...your campus…is nothing short of Holy Land…” She continued [00:30:13]: “I am elated to see tents and signs in student encampments here at Columbia and campuses all around the country that lift up a Hindu voice of resistance.”

Among Palestinians and anti-Israel activists, the term “resistance” is a euphemism for nationalistic terror and is used to glorify and encourage anti-Israel and antisemitic violence.

In the same speech, Viswanath also accused [00:32:40] Israel of “genocidal Zionism,” saying [00:33:00]: “Hindu nationalism…and Zionism are both Islamophobic projects of hate, twin evils.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture. Zionism is a core part of the identity of most Jews.

On April 29, 2024, Viswanath was featured in a YouTube video participating [02:19:28] in a rally at the Columbia encampment.

Columbia is located in New York, New York.
