Steff Reed

Steff Reed is a Union Theological Seminary (UTS) student who participated in the pro-Hamas encampment at Columbia in April 2024. The encampment was also in support of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

On April 23, 2024, Steff Reed posted [slides 1, 2, 4] Instagram photos that showed him playing a keyboard and singing at the Columbia encampment.

In one photo, Reed sat [slide 4] at the front of a large group photo next to a sign that said: “Union Theological Seminary / Students for a Liberated Palestine.”

Reed wrote in the post: “My heart is full ❤️🥹🥰 / Sunday evening my @unionseminary comrades and I organized a Liturgy to support the courageous student protestors at the encampment at @columbia 🌈 Church was had. Souls were fed.🙏🏽/ Liberation theology ✊🏽/ This is a historic moment and I am honored and proud to be contributing, supporting, and showing up in all the ways that I can. 🫶🏽 / Sending love and light to @jvp.columbia @cuapartheiddivest @nycpym for all that you do! The world is watching. The ancestors are watching. Keep inspiring righteous radical resistance ❤️ / FINDING FAITH IN REVOLUTION 🗣️.”

Reed’s post was in support of the Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD), an anti-Israel coalition that promotes the BDS movement. He is also a supporter of the Columbia chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), as well as the New York City chapter of the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM).
