Nour Awad

Overview

Nour Awad [Nour Mohammad Awad] has expressed support for Hamas and demonized Jews. Awad has also promoted incitement on social media, whitewashed terrorists and spread hatred of Israel.

In 2014 and 2015, Awad was an activist with Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at the University of Houston (UH).

Awad is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Awad graduated from UH in 2015. As of February 2017, Awad’s Facebook page said that he worked at Easy Expunctions, a records clearing service, in San Antonio, Texas.

Supporting Hamas

On December 17, 2014, Awad tweeted: “So Hamas is no longer on the list of the EU's list of terror groups, which makes sense bc RESISTANCE groups aren't terrorists #FreePalestine.”

On July 22, 2014, Awad tweeted: “Freedom Fighters NOT terrorists, Israel is the real terrorist. May Allah ease it on you & be with you our brothers.”

Awad’s tweet contained a link to a video of armed masked terrorists that celebrated the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas.

Anti-Jewish Social Media Posts

On July 1, 2014, Awad tweeted: “triangles are basic plus 2 of em make a yahoodi [jewish] star so I have to pass but I do like cheese a lot, I BELIEVE.”

On December 31, 2013 Awad tweeted: “haha I have nothing against Jews, it's Zionism I have the problem with, in which the whole world should as well.”

However, on August 15, 2013, Awad tweeted: “Cali is baby Israel, never seen so many Jews in my life #TheyCanSmellMe.”

Incitement

On September 13, 2015 Awad shared a AJ+ video purporting to document Israel having “stormed the Al-Aqsa mosque.” On September 15, 2015, Awad shared an article to Facebook headlined: “Israeli police storm Al-Aqsa Mosque for a third day.”

On September 15, 2015 masked Palestinian rioters barricaded themselves inside the Dome of the Rock. They set off fireworks —  which started a fire —  and threw stones and debris stored inside at Israeli police. The police later found pipe bombs the rioters had prepared to launch at Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount plaza.

The allegation that Jews “threaten” the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a traditional pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state. Such propaganda served as the excuse for an upsurge in Palestinian violence that flared in the fall of 2015.

On July 24, 2014, Awad tweeted: “THE THIRD INTIFADA IS AMONGST US ALLAHUAKBAR, Allah is with you Palestine to give you strength & faith & victory #WEBELIEVE #FREEPALESTINE”

On the same day, Awad tweeted: “Palestinians at masjid Al-Aqsa whoop Isreali soldiers & took their equipment, ALLAHUAKBAR #3rdIntifada #FreePalestine.” The tweet featured a picture of a masked Palestinian holding an Israeli police officer’s shield.

Whitewashing Terrorists

On October 4, 2015, Awad shared an article on Facebook whitewashing attempted murderer Fadi Alloon.

Fadi Aloon was shot by Israeli security forces after he stabbed a 15-year-old Israeli boy. Several hours before the attack, Aloon posted “Either martyrdom or victory” on his Facebook page.

The article alleged that Israelis “rejoiced” as Aloon was “executed in cold blood.” Awad added: “Hmm never realized that the death of another individual could be such an exciting event for some. I guess just being an Arab is a crime nowadays in some places. Allah yirhamak ya (have pity on) Fadi #FreePalestine.”

October 2015 saw an upsurge in violence across Israel incited by Palestinian political and religious leaders. The wave of stabbings — known as the “Knife Intifada” — saw young Palestinians throughout the country stabbing and attempting to stab Israeli civilians.

The attacks were sparked and fueled by Palestinian leaders propagating the libel that Israel intended to desecrate the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

Spreading Hatred of Israel

On June 16, 2015, Awad tweeted: “Ha ha f**k you Israel, shout out to the bay. I still love you bron bron ❤️

On February 23, 2015, Awad shared an article on Facebook propagating a false claim that Israel opened dams to flood Gaza.

On February 14, 2015, Awad shared an article on Facebook, accusing Israel of having ties to ISIS.

On January 15, 2015, Awad tweeted: “A huge f**k you to #FoxNews you Zionist pigs, much respect to Duke University for the love & equality.”

On November 29, 2014, Awad tweeted: “Yesterday Israel arrested a 2 yr kid and an 11 month baby, hmm ya I can definitely see they could possibly be a threat smfh #FreePalestine.”

On November 23, 2014, Awad tweeted: “ the best way to reply to a dumb ignorant Zionist monkey is to ignore him and let him argue with.”

On July 21, 2014, Awad tweeted: “the real terrorist is Israel and all it's supporters, so ya YOU are a f**kin terrorist you and the rest of the IDF scum s**ts.”

Eissa’s tweet referred to the early 7th century Battle of Khaybar, where the Prophet Mohammad — with his followers — massacred the Jews of that town and then enslaved the surviving women as “wives.”

SJP UH - Demonizing Israel

On March 30 - April 3, 2015, SJP UH organized Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW). The itinerary of events included a talk by anti-Israel agitator Alison Weir, who founded the controversial site If Americans Knew (IAK).

On August 8, 2009, Weir wrote an article supporting a blood libel published by a Swedish newspaper —  about Israel harvesting Palestinian organs.

SJP UH’s IAW also featured a mock apartheid wall, erected on campus. The wall featured a misleading series of maps that presented lands once controlled by Britain, Egypt and Jordan as autonomous “Palestinian land,” purportedly stolen by Israel. In February of 2016, publishing giant McGraw-Hill Education recalled a college level textbook that featured the erroneous maps. In October 2015, MSNBC apologized for airing a similar grouping of maps and retracted them.

SJP UH - Supporting Violence

On November 1, 2015, SJP UH shared a post on Facebook promoting a demonstration in Houston and Austin, Texas, co-organized by SJP UH and the Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC) at Austin, Texas (PSCAT) to protest the “killing dozens of unarmed Palestinians…” and to “affirm support for the Palestinian resistance… Long Live the Resistance! Long Live the Intifada!”

October 2015 saw an upsurge in violence across Israel incited by Palestinian political and religious leaders. The wave of stabbings, known as the “Knife Intifada,” saw young Palestinians across Israel stabbing and attempting to stab scores of Israeli civilians.

SJP UH - Hosting Incitement

On August 18, 2014, SJP UH and UH MSA co-organized an event featuring Sheikh Omar Suleiman. SJP UH’s Facebook announcement billed Suleiman as a “vocal human rights supporter.”

On July 24, 2014, Suleiman called on Twitter for a “3rd Intifada” to destroy Israel and claimed Israel arbitrarily denied muslims the right to pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Such libels incited deadly violence against Israelis, like the 2014 Har Nof Synagogue Massacre, where terrorists murdered six people in a Jerusalem synagogue during morning prayers.

SJP UH - Pushing BDS

On November 1, 2015, SJP UH shared an event on Facebook announcing plans for a UH Divest campaign and new Facebook page. The event aimed to discuss “all potential strategies” to bring BDS to UH. Proposed strategies included:

Revamped tabling and silent demonstrations
Discussing BDS and ways to succeed/make an impact with friends from other campuses
BDS Workshops to teach the student body what BDS is and why we support it
Connecting with and HELPING other minority organizations on campus

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
