Overview
Jasmine Emara has spread hatred of Israel on social media and is affiliated with Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at the University of Houston (UH).Emara indicated on Facebook that she “went” to the 2017 National SJP conference (NSJP 2017).
NSJP 2017 was held October 27-29, 2017 at UH. The conference was themed “A Reimagined World: Dismantling Walls from Palestine to the Rio Grande.” Per the 2017 National SJP Conference website, the conference aimed to strengthen “collaborative efforts within all regions to pass BDS” and envision “pathways to achieving sanctions in the future.”
In December 2013, Emara was reportedly a freshman at UH studying political science. On
Spreading Hatred of Israel
On December 12, 2017, Emara tweeted: “I swear nothing in this world gets me more heated than the COMPLETE INJUSTICE going on in Palestine. LIKE ARE YOU SERIOUS? And to think I ‘Love America’? What makes this place so great if some of the people who run our government support genocide or KILLING OF INNOCENTS.”On October 17, 2017, Emara shared to Facebook a video by anti-Semitic activist Robert Martin titled “I acknowledge apartheid exists." In the video, Martin described [00:00:22]Israeli security policies as “complete racism” and portrayed [00:01:35] Israeli soldiers as “racist right to the heart.”
Emara then compared Peres to Hitler, tweeting: “I mean does this make any sense? When Hitler died did Truman go to his funeral?”
On September 9, 2015, Emara tweeted: “Who the hell wants to invest in an ILLEGAL COMPANY?!????” Her tweet included a link to an article titled: “Chinese purchase of Israel's Ahava shows boycott is hurting.”
On July 4, 2015, Emara tweeted: “Can't a country be its own country? I mean I wouldn't support Israel if it was my home country, killing innocent?” Her tweet linked to another tweet that read: “Message is loud and clear #FreePalestine”
On August 1, 2014, Emara tweeted in response to a photo collage of anti-Israel demonstrations across the world, writing: “if all these people from different countries can see Israel's terrible acts why can't the UN or USA see it too…”
On August 2, 2014, Emara tweeted: “Israelis mind of thinking: We want land that isn't ours, killing isn't enough, let's try and arrest children..WTH?!
Tokenizing Jews
On December 12, 2017, Emara posted to Facebook a video of Neturei Karta members participating in an anti-Israel protest and wrote that “Jews (real honest, and kind Jews)” can “support the rights of Palestinians.” She also wrote “ZIONISTS are those behind the genocide in Palestine.”Neturei Karta is a fringe anti-Israel Jewish group whose leader, Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss, was excommunicated from many Ultra-Orthodox Jewish groups for participating in a 2006 Holocaust denial conference.
The group opposes Zionism on religious grounds and supports the dismantlement of Israel.
SJP
SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.
The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.
SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.
SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.
Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
MSA
The MSA was established by members of the Muslim Brotherhood in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with the goal of "spreading Islam as students in North America." A 2004 FBI investigation uncovered an internal Muslim Brotherhood document in which a brotherhood leader identified the MSA as "one of our organizations."
The MSA reportedly has “nearly 600 chapters” located in the United States and Canada, and is “the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America,” boasting conferences, special events, publications, websites and other activities.
The organization includes a number of previous chapter presidents with explicit links to terrorist groups. Included are al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki (Colorado State University), Somali al-Shabaab militant leader Omar Shafik Hammami (University of South Alabama) and Pakistani Taliban recruiter Ramy Zamzam of the MSA's Washington, D.C. council.
