Dania Kurd

Overview

Dania Kurd [Dania Elkurd] has defended terrorists and spread hatred of Israel on social media. She was an activist with Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at the University of Houston (UH) in 2017.

Elkurd attended the 2017 National SJP Conference (NSJP 2017) where she supported the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

NSJP 2017 was held October 27-29, 2017 at UH. The conference was themed “A Reimagined World: Dismantling Walls from Palestine to the Rio Grande.” Per the 2017 National SJP Conference website, the conference aimed to strengthen “collaborative efforts within all regions to pass BDS” and envision “pathways to achieving sanctions in the future.”

As of January 2018, Kurd’s LinkedIn page said she majored in “Public Relations, Advertising and Applied Communication” at UH. On December 13, 2017, Kurd tweeted that she would be graduating college the next day.

As of January 2018, Kurd’s WayUp page said she was an administrative assistant at Vicki Tidwell Palmer, LCSW. However, her LinkedIn page said she left the job in July 2017.

Defending Terrorists

On May 25, 2017, Kurd indicated on Facebook that she went to an SJP UH rally in support of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike in Israeli jails.

The SJP UH event page endorsed the “Strike for Dignity and Freedom” and demanded Israel “end its policies of apartheid, colonization, military occupation, displacement, dispossession, and mass incarceration.”

“Dignity Strike” refers to a hunger strike initiated by Marwan Barghouti on April 16, 2017. More than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners participated in the strike – most them also convicted for acts of terrorism. Barghouti headed the Palestinian Authority (PA) terrorist Tanzim force and founded the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades. He was sentenced to five consecutive life terms by an Israeli civilian court for some of his crimes, including his role in the Sbarro Cafe bombing

On September 14, 2015, Kurd posted a video on Facebook defending Palestinian rioters on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount. The video cast doubt on the Palestinian rioters’ plans to stockpile weapons to attack Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount.

On September 13, 2015 masked Palestinian rioters barricaded themselves inside the Al Aqsa Mosque. They set off fireworks —  which started a small fire —  and threw stones and debris stored inside at Israeli police. The police later found pipe bombs the rioters had prepared to launch at Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount plaza.

Spreading Hatred of Israel

On December 5, 2017, Kurd retweeted a tweet that said: “ … Israeli authorities have made Jerusalem an apartheid city …”

On November 4, 2017, Kurd retweeted a tweet that accused Israel of “ethnic cleansing.”

On September 5, 2017, Kurd tweeted that Israel was committing “Ethnic. Cleansing.” in Gaza.

On December 7, 2016, Kurd tweeted: “US funds the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people by funding the colonization efforts of Israel.”

On the same day, Kurd tweeted: “do you feel bad about the colonization going on in Israel rn? The bombs, children dying, the ethnic cleansing.”

SJP and BDS Activism

On November 2, 2017, Elkurd appeared in a photo from NSJP 2017 supporting BDS.

NSJP 2017 was held October 27-29, 2017 at the University of Houston (UH).

On March 27-30, 2017, Kurd was listed on Facebook as having attended the SJP UH event “Israeli Apartheid Week.”

On February 12, 2015, Kurd indicated on Facebook that she “went” to SJP UH’s event titled “Silent Demonstration + BDS KICKOFF!”

On October 30, 2014, Kurd indicated on Facebook that she “went” to an SJP UH event promoting BDS and showing an anti-Israel film comparing Israel to apartheid South Africa.

On October 9, 2014, Kurd indicated on Facebook that she “went” to a pro-BDS event at UH.

On August 9, 2014, Kurd indicated on Facebook that she “went” to an SJP UH event protesting Israel’s Operation Protective Edge (OPE) against Hamas.

Israel commenced OPE in July 2014, to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
