Mhesa Khalil

Overview

Mhesa Khalil was a member of the Muslim Students Union (MSU) at the University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine) majoring in Pharmaceutical Science.

As of August 2018, Khalil’s Facebook page said she studied at UC Irvine.  

Comparing Zionism to Nazism

On May 17, 2015, Khalil shared a Facebook post which claimed Zionism to be Nazism. The post said "I WILL GIVE MY LIFE TO END ZIONISM BEFORE IT ENDS HUMANKIND" and “Zionist are modern day Nazis!!” The post included a photo comparing Buchenwald concentration camp to an Israeli checkpoint. The post came from the anti-Israel Facebook page “I Acknowledge Apartheid Exists.”

Supporting Islamic Jihad Militant

On June 12, 2015, Khalil posted in support of Khader Adnan, a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) organization who had been arrested by Israel for "activities that threaten regional security."

A 2007 YouTube video showed Adnan praising and encouraging suicide bombings: "Who among you will carry the next explosive belt? Who among you will fire the next bullets? Who among you will have his body parts blown all over?"

Vilifying Israel

On July 30, 2104 Khalil claimed on Facebook: "We need to end the genocide that is going on in Gaza! Innocent children are being killed every hour, minute and second! Netanyahu shall pay for his dirty war crimes and deadly attacks on innocent civilians!! This is genocide not war!!!!!"

On July 7, 2014, Khali shared a petition on Facebook in which she referredto Israel as an “Apartheid State” and that it has committed “endless murders and massacres of Palestinian children and women!”

On September 17, 2014, Khalil said "Israel will never, ever, ever, ever agree to a truce!! They will always find some pathetic and fake excuse to kill!"

MSA

The MSA was  established by members of the Muslim Brotherhood in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with the goal of "spreading Islam as students in North America." A 2004 FBI investigation uncovered an internal Muslim Brotherhood document in which a brotherhood leader identified the MSA as "one of our organizations." 

The MSA reportedly has “nearly 600 chapters” located in the United States and Canada, and is “the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America,” boasting conferences, special events, publications, websites and other activities.

The organization includes a number of previous chapter presidents with explicit links to terrorist groups. Included are al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki (Colorado State University), Somali al-Shabaab militant leader Omar Shafik Hammami (University of South Alabama) and Pakistani Taliban recruiter Ramy Zamzam of the MSA's Washington, D.C. council.
