Leila Fawaz signed an anti-Israel letter during Israel’s war against Hamas terrorists. Israel launched the war after the October 7, 2023, terror attacks.

The May 8, 2024 letter Leila Fawaz signed accused Israel of “genocide” in its war against Hamas and showed support for the pro-terror campus encampments. It also endorsed elements of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
As of July 2025, Leila Fawaz was listed as a professor emerita and the founding director of the Fares Center for Eastern Mediterranean Studies at the Fletcher School at Tufts University (Tufts). Tufts is located in Medford, Massachusetts.
