Zaid Jaloudi’s Arrest at the Pro-Hamas Encampment at Columbia University (Columbia), Anti-Semitism and Hatred of the Police as a Rally Speaker

Zaid Jaloudi spread anti-Semitism and promoted hatred of the police as a representative of the pro-terror organization American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) at an anti-Israel protest in New York City in May 2024.

Zaid Jaloudi was arrested at the pro-Hamas encampment at Columbia in April 2024. He also led chants and participated in the encampment in April 2024

Jaloudi is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

In 2024, Jaloudi was affiliated with the pro-terror activist group Within Our Lifetime (WOL), which is based in New York, New York.

As of October 2024, Jaloudi’s speaker bio on Al Sharq Youth said he served as the president of Global Students for Palestine Network (GSPN). GSPN was launched in New York in August 2024 and calls on universities worldwide to “stand against the actions of the Zionist entity, support the students' right to protest, terminate all relations with Israeli educational and research institutions, and divest from all Israeli companies and those supporting the Zionist entity.”

The incident occurred during Israel’s war against Hamas, called “Swords of Iron.” Israel launched the war after a series of Hamas terror attacks and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023

The terror attacks left over 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded. For more information on the October 7, 2023 terror attacks, see the Canary Mission page on Hamas.

Hamas is a designated terrorist organization founded in 1987 that is dedicated to destroying Israel and killing Jews. Since 2001, Hamas has launched thousands of rockets at Israel and on October 7, 2023, Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped over 200 hostages, including children and the elderly.

As of October 2024, Al Sharq Youth posted on Instagram that Jaloudi was an economist and activist.

As of June 2024, Jaloudi’s Github said he was located in New York, New York.

Anti-Semitism and Hatred of the Police as a Rally Speaker

On May 23, 2024, Jaloudi spread [00:08:48] anti-Semitism and promoted [00:03:58] hatred of the police as a speaker at an anti-Israel WOL protest. The rally was part of a series of protests in support of the pro-Hamas encampment at Columbia.

During his speech, Jaloudi referred [00:03:58] to police officers securing the protest as “pigs.” He continued and said [00:04:08], referring to police and Israel: “Your mayor hired you all on behalf of a foreign government as mercenaries to attack a bunch of college kids hanging out on a lawn.” He later called [00:04:32] the police “cowards.”

Later, Jaloudi asked [00:05:20] the anti-Israel crowd: “Who are the puppet masters up top? Not [New York] Mayor [Eric] Adams. Not the billionaires. Not [U.S. president] Joe Biden. Definitely not the ICJ [International Court of Justice]. It is the Zionist colonial empire! Built off of the blood of Palestinians!”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture. Zionism is a core part of the identity of most Jews.

Jaloudi then said [00:05:50]: “The Zionist government and the Zionist people subscribe to an ideology of white supremacy! Subscribe to an agenda of genocide and ethnic cleansing! All for profit! All for power! Shame!”

Later, Jaloudi referred [00:08:48] to Zionists as “nothing but simply white Europeans.”

One way that anti-Israel activists spread anti-Semitism is to claim [00:06:46] that Jews, particularly Ashkenazi Jews, do not descend from the ancient Israelites. This claim alleges that Jews are white Europeans who lack a connection to the Land of Israel.

Jaloudi continued and said [00:08:57] that Zionists were “the same people who came to the United States when it was with the native Americans…These white Europeans historically have committed genocide to take over the lands of other people.”

Jaloudi then said [00:09:37]: “We have been under attack not only by our institutions but our workplaces and our city governments. And we have been betrayed by those who claim to serve and protect us. But they have made it utterly clear who they serve and who they protect. They protect a Zionist regime that’s time is ticking and the time has been ticking. And their time is up.”

Jaloudi then said [00:11:41], comparing Zionists to police officers: “The similarities between the Zionists and the pigs is that they are the same people, with the same ideologies, with fascist racist ideologies. And you see them implementing white supremacist policies when they themselves are not white.”

Jaloudi also said [00:13:11] of Israel: “The occupation began 76 years ago.”

The modern State of Israel was founded 76 years earlier, in 1948.

Later, Jaloudi said [00:16:18] of Israelis: “No settler is innocent! No settler is innocent! Every settler is complicit. And they’re welcome to come back to Brooklyn.”

He continued and said [00:17:18]: “This is a revolution! Not only a student revolution! Not only a New York revolution! But a global revolution!”

Jaloudi then said [00:17:56]: “So, I say to the Nazis. I meant Zionists actually. You will be remembered as the Nazis of this day. That ugly blue [Israeli] flag will no longer be an emoji one day!”

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 countries have adopted the definition as well.

Jaloudi continued and said [00:18:18]: “And your war crimes that you claim to be so high up above, and you heard all the world puppets echo - ‘There is no equivalence…’ All from the same office in Israel aka Brooklyn. Because they are too much of cowards to stay in Tel Aviv. They’ve all fled their country.”

Jaloudi then said [00:18:56]: “Those same people writing the scripts for the world leaders are the ones who instructed these clowns billionaires to send these pigs into Hind’s Hall, into Columbia Gaza Solidarity Encampment…terrorizing everybody in the community indiscriminately.”

Popular anti-Semitic conspiracy theories claim Jews control the world’s finance, media and governments. Some anti-Semites use the term “Zionists” as a euphemism for “Jews” to express supposed Jewish global power.

Zaid Jaloudi’s Arrest at the Pro-Hamas Encampment at Columbia

On July 11, 2024, Al Jazeera English uploaded a video to YouTube featuring [00:00:10] Jaloudi. The video reported [00:01:17] that Jaloudi was one of over 200 arrested at the encampment.

Jaloudi was featured [slide 4] in a photo posted on Instagram on April 22, 2024, taken on the third day of the encampment. In the photo, Jaloudi can be seen wearing a keffiyeh around his shoulders and holding a microphone.

Text on the post said: “The energy on Day 3 at the student divest action encampment at Columbia University was palpable. 🍉✌️• Traditional Palestinian dance followed by Chants led by the WoL members 🙌☝️.”

On April 17, 2024, Columbia students and anti-Israel activists set up a pro-Hamas “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” on the university's main lawn. Many participants were arrested and the encampment featured multiple violent incidents, including taking over a campus building and taking a university worker hostage.

Activists protested Israel’s war against Hamas and demanded that Columbia “divest from companies and institutions that profit from Israeli apartheid, genocide and occupation…”

The action had reportedly been planned for months and was organized by the Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) coalition. The encampment was also organized by Columbia’s banned pro-Hamas activist group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and the university chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP). Activists reportedly received training from National SJP and other anti-Israel organizations.

WOL

Within Our Lifetime (WOL) is a pro-terror activist group in New York City dedicated to Israel’s destruction within the lifetime of its members.

Acts of violence and physical confrontations with police have frequently occurred at WOL protests and marches. WOL uses harassment campaigns to target pro-Israel organizations or companies that do business with Israel, making it a part of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Multiple activists who have either burned Israeli flags or led chants at WOL rallies were later jailed for violent anti-Semitic hate crimes, including Saadah Masoud and Waseem Awawdeh. In Masoud’s case, he received 18 months in jail for an anti-Semitic assault at an April 2022 WOL rally and two other anti-Semitic assaults in 2021.

WOL promotes “resistance” against Israel “by any means necessary,” calls to “Globalize the Intifada,” spreads incitement and idolizes [00:34:06] Palestinian terrorists like Leila Khaled and others at rallies and online events.

WOL was founded by Nerdeen Kiswani and Dan Cione in 2015. Kiswani is a frequent speaker at WOL rallies where she has promoted terrorism against Israelis and called for the death of Zionists. She has also provided support for Masoud and other activists following their arrests.

WOL began as the New York City chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), going by NYC SJP, but changed its name in 2018. The group is not found to be registered in any U.S. state as a nonprofit organization under its official name. Nor is there any listing for WOL under its name on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website for tax-exempt organizations.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
