On June 23, 2024, a violent riot broke out outside the Adas Torah synagogue in a densely populated Jewish area in Los Angeles, California. The riot began as a protest organized by anti-Israel agitators in response to a sale of “housing projects in all the best [English-speaking] neighborhoods in Israel.” During the protest, anti-Israel activists blocked [00:00:11] access to the synagogue and, later in the day, harassed Jewish residents in their neighborhood.

As of June 25, 2024, Sonali’s Twitter bio included a symbol showing support for Hamas terrorists. Her bio said: “ucla alum and researcher 🔻.”

The inverted red triangle is a symbol showing support for Hamas and Palestinian terrorism. It first appeared in propaganda videos produced by the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, during its terror attacks of October 7, 2023. The symbol was used by Hamas to signify one of their Israeli targets.

Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., Canada, European Union, Israel and other countries. Founded in 1987, it has killed thousands of Israeli civilians through mass shootings and suicide bombings. Hamas has also kidnapped children, families and the elderly and held them hostage in Gaza. It has desecrated [slide 7] dead bodies and launched numerous rocket attacks against Israeli civilians.

On May 2, 2024, Malik was called a spokesperson for the anti-Israel encampment at the University of Los Angeles, California (UCLA).

On April 29, 2024, Malik said she was at the UCLA encampment to support divestment “because our university is invested in the genocide of Palestinians.”

The encampment was one of about 200 anti-Israel college encampments set up in North America, and over 20 globally, in the spring of 2024. The first began on April 17, 2024, at Columbia University. Protesters harassed Jewish students, blocked Jews from campus facilities and used anti-Semitic language in their activism. They also promoted BDS and protested Israel’s war against Hamas, launched after Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis on October 7, 2023.

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by pro-terror activist Omar Barghouti in 2005 to turn “Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.” Barghouti has also called for Israel's destruction and the BDS movement demands would result in that same goal.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been infiltrating university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments propose resolutions to boycott or divestment from Israel or Israeli-affiliated entities. BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents and pro-terror activism on campus.
