Sereen El Jamal

On May 18, 2021, El Jamal addressed a rally titled: “Newburgh’s March and Protest in Solidarity with the Humans of Palestine.” She is seen standing on the steps of a building in front of a Palestinian flag, wearing a multi-colored long skirt, a black-and-white keffiyeh around her shoulders and a black hijab. The protest took place in Newburgh, New York, and was sponsored by Samidoun.

On May 18, 2021, El Jamal posted on Twitter a video of herself addressing a crowd at an anti-Israel protest, where she said [00:01:02]: “There’s no reason why there should be $3.8 billion dollars of aid sent to Israel every year to fund war crimes, to soldiers who teach our American cops to use the techniques like the ones used on George Floyd.”

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a black man, was arrested and killed by a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In 2017, JVP launched the “Deadly Exchange” (DX) campaign, accusing American Jewish organizations of promoting human rights abuses by coordinating exchange programs between American and Israeli security personnel to advance “worst practices" and racist policies. The campaign blamed [00:04:04] Jewish organizations for violence against Black and Brown communities, immigrants and activists in the U.S.

El Jamal concluded [00:01:34]: “...money that could be funding our health care, money that could be funding our education, is funding ethnic cleansing instead.”

El Jamal participated in a May 15, 2022 WOL rally in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, titled: “Nakba 74: Defend Palestine.” She is seen holding a yellow banner with other marchers, wearing a black hijab, black-and-white keffiyeh around her shoulders and a yellow shirt with black lettering that reads: “ANTI-ZIONIST.” The protest was organized by WOL, Samidoun and the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM).

The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by drawing a comparison to the Holocaust, known in Hebrew as the Shoah, meaning “catastrophe.”

During the rally, Nerdeen Kiswani addressed the crowd and said [00:01:29]: “The Israeli Zionist colonizer knows no bounds. They squat on our land and kill our people because they have nothing less than complete genocide and annihilation planned for the Palestinian people.”

Kiswani continued [00:06:18]: “Ever since May 15, 1948 and, even before, Palestinians have been killed senselessly, have been facing genocide, because the Israeli plan is to colonize all of Palestine from the river to the sea. And this is why we fight for Palestine from the river to the sea because every inch of that land is Palestinian…”

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free” is a chant used [00:02:47] to call for the elimination of the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state. In April 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning the chant as antisemitic.

The modern State of Israel was founded in 1948.

El Jamal participated in an April 20, 2022 WOL-organized rally titled: “NYC EMERGENCY RALLY TO SUPPORT PALESTINIAN RESISTANCE & LIBERATION BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.” She is seen wearing black, with a black hijab, wrapped in a black-and-white keffiyeh, holding a yellow banner with other marchers, following behind Nerdeen Kiswani leading chants.

In the protest, El Jamal held a sign that said: “Resistance is justified when people are occupied.”

Anti-Israel activists use the term “resistance” to refer to violence and terror perpetrated against Israeli civilians and their allies. It is used to glorify and encourage anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence. Anti-Israel activists chant slogans such as: “Resistance by any means necessary!” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” in response to terror attacks.

Anti-Israel activists use the phrase “By any means necessary” as one of multiple euphemisms for terrorist violence, of which another is “resistance.”

Samuel Bravo, a local journalist, reported that a man who wore an Israeli flag on his back and walked with a crutch had been “chased down and beaten” at the march. Bravo posted a video that showed anti-Israel agitator Saadah Masoud punching Matt Greenman, a Jewish man, in the face. Masoud also stole Greenman’s Israeli flag. Bravo also reported that an elderly woman was injured while trying to stop the attack.

At the rally, Suleiman Othman, an anti-Israel agitator, burned [00:50:48] an Israeli flag while walking at the front of the march. He also later kicked [00:57:01] its remains.

Also at the rally, protesters held signs that said [00:42:26]: “Free Palestine. From the River to the Sea” and “Zionism is Racism.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture. Zionism is a core part of the identity of most Jews.

El Jamal retweeted a May 11, 2021 tweet that said: “‘With blood we write for Palestine’- Ghassan Kanafani / Our weapon has always been the truth.”

Kanafani was a leading member and spokesperson for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) during the terrorist organization’s early years. Kanafani announced the PFLP’s responsibility for the Lod Airport Massacre of May 1972 and was linked to the airport attackers. The attack killed 26 people and wounded 80 others.

El Jamal retweeted a May 12, 2021 tweet that said: “One Israeli bomb can easily wipe out my entire village and its inhabitants. 100 Hamas rockets can barely burn a tree. I hate when zionists compare them like they’re equal.”

Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., Canada, European Union, Israel and other countries. Founded in 1987, it has killed thousands of Israeli civilians through mass shootings and suicide bombings. Hamas has also kidnapped children, families and the elderly and held them hostage in Gaza. It has desecrated [slide 7] dead bodies and launched numerous rocket attacks against Israeli civilians.

El Jamal retweeted a May 14, 2021 tweet that said: “The strong mothers of Palestine ❤️.” The tweet contained a video, in Arabic with English subtitles, of a Palestinian mother who said her son “yearned for it [martyrdom] and he got it and deserves it.”

The mother continued: “I will raise his children on the path of Jihad. Because we are all to be sacrificed for Al-Aqsa and sacrificed for God. We accept your decree, O God, and it is an obligation upon us to. O God, take our blood and wealth from us until you are pleased!”

In May 2021, violent clashes broke out between Palestinian worshippers and Israeli police at the Al-Aqsa compound following claims the Al-Aqsa Mosque was in danger. The subsequent incitement was a leading factor in Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists firing over 4,300 rockets from Gaza into Israel later that month. Israel responded by launching “Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW),” carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza. Allegations of Jews “threatening” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque have been a traditional pretext for Arab attacks on Jews predating the State of Israel.

El Jamal retweeted a June 25, 2021 tweet that said: “Fidaa Wishah a Palestinian-American pediatrician at Phoenix Children's Hospital, has been removed from office due to pressure from the Zionist Lobby because she posted on social media her objection on Israel’s crimes of genocide against Palestinians.”

El Jamal’s retweet was in reference to Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s decision to suspend Dr. Fidaa Wishah for her May 26, 2021, Facebook post that called for Israel’s destruction and accused Israel of “cannibalism.”

Dr. Wishah’s post said: “We will uncover your thirst to kill our Palestinian children…A state based on atrocity, inhumanity, racism and cannibalism never lasts long! Hey #israel…your end is coming sooner than you think.”

On June 23, 2021, news outlets and social media accounts reported the hospital had fired Wishah.

On June 23, 2021, El Jamal tweeted: “I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves” and added photos of her graffitiing the Israeli flag on dumpsters in Amman, Jordan.

El Jamal retweeted a June 16, 2021 tweet that said: “‘second nakba is coming’ yea the Israeli nakba when y’all leave to brooklyn.”

El Jamal retweeted a May 22, 2021 tweet that said: “#SaveSheikhJarrah #FreePalestine.” The tweet had an image featured with the words: “I ain’t never seen a two-state solution [to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict]. It’s always f**k Israel and free PALESTINE.”

In May 2021, Palestinian violence erupted in anticipation of an Israel High Court ruling on eviction proceedings concerning over 70 Palestinian tenants illegally residing in Jewish-owned properties in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah.

El Jamal retweeted a May 16, 2021 tweet that said: “seeing isr*eI be dragged thru the dirt on every social media app I open is ughhh chef’s kiss mwah.”

El Jamal retweeted a May 15, 2021 tweet that said: “Rocks? Oh no, how awful. How will the heavily armed IDF soldiers, tanks, helicopters, grenades and advanced weaponry cope?” The tweet was in response to a video that showed Palestinians throwing rocks at Israeli forces.

Although romanticized as a form of “popular resistance,” rock throwing remains a deadly form of violence.

During Israel’s conflict with Hamas in 2021, El Jamal retweeted a May 10, 2021 tweet that said: “They’re even stealing their oppression. I can’t #IsraeliTerrorism.” The tweet was in response to a video of an Israeli man shielding and comforting his 12-year-old sister as the alarm system sounded alerting the local Israeli population of an incoming rocket from Gaza.

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by pro-terror activist Omar Barghouti in 2005 to turn “Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.” Barghouti has also called for Israel's destruction and the BDS movement demands would result in that same goal.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been infiltrating university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments propose resolutions to boycott or divestment from Israel or Israeli-affiliated entities. BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents and pro-terror activism on campus.
