Naye Idriss’s Arrest at the Pro-Hamas Encampment at Columbia University (Columbia), Praising Hamas Terrorist War Crimes, Arrest at an Anti-Israel Disruption and Celebrating the Death of Israelis

Naye Idriss [Naay Idriss] celebrated Hamas war crimes as a rally speaker in October 2023 and was arrested at an anti-Israel disruption in January 2024. She was also arrested at the pro-Hamas encampment at Columbia in April 2024.

Idriss has celebrated the death of Israelis, spread anti-Semitism, idolized terrorists, and promoted hatred of Israelis and Zionists. Idriss has also spread hatred of Israel and America.

Idriss has also celebrated [00:31:32] terrorism, called [00:33:18] for Israel’s destruction and promoted [00:08:54] incitement as a speaker or a lead marcher at Within Our Lifetime (WOL) rallies in New York City in 2021 and 2022. At a 2022 WOL event, she represented [00:31:10] the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) as one of its activists.

The incidents in October 2023 and January 2024 occurred following a series of Hamas terror atrocities and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023.

The Hamas terror attacks left over 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.”

Hamas is a designated terrorist organization founded in 1987 that is dedicated to destroying Israel and killing Jews. Since 2001, Hamas has launched thousands of rockets at Israel and on October 7, 2023, Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped over 200 hostages, including children and the elderly.

In January 2023, New York University (NYU) did not rehire Idriss as an Arabic translator after she vandalized an Israeli mail service bag while at work. NYU opened an investigation on Idriss for multiple issues, including defacing school property.

Idriss is the daughter of Samah Idriss, the founder of the Campaign to Boycott Supporters of Israel-Lebanon (CBSI), a campaign pre-dating the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. CBSI targeted Israeli companies in Lebanon and Arab countries. Idriss has tweeted about her father’s close friendship with terrorist leaders.

In 2017, 2019 and 2020, Idriss was an activist or organizer with the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter at Columbia University (Columbia SJP). During those same years, she was an activist with Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD), a BDS movement coalition co-led by Columbia SJP.

As of January 2023, Idriss’s Facebook said she had been a Teaching Assistant (TA) at Columbia since January 16, 2019.

Also as of January 2023, Idriss was listed on an NYU website with other “continuing students 2021-2023” as pursuing a master’s degree at NYU’s Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies (Kevorkian Center). In August 2021, she wrote that in the fall she would start her master’s degree in Middle Eastern studies at the Kevorkian Center.

In 2020, Idriss graduated from Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature and Anthropology.

As of January 2023, Idriss’s Facebook said she was located in Manhattan, New York.

As of the same date, Idriss went by the username “ناي سماح إدريس [Naye Samah Idriss]” on Twitter.

Praising Hamas Terrorist War Crimes as a Speaker at a Rally

On October 8, 2023, Idriss spoke [00:20:07] on behalf of PYM at a rally it co-organized in New York City in support of Hamas terror attacks on Israeli communities bordering Gaza, resulting in hundreds of deaths, as well as many kidnappings of civilians.

At the rally, Idriss told [00:20:16] cheering protesters: “Early morning on Saturday, October 7th, our resistance stormed illegal settlements and paraglided across colonial borders.”

At the rally, Idriss said [00:20:59]: “Our heroic resistance continues to prove that we will never sit idly while our people are colonized, brutalized and ethnically cleansed…”

Idriss also yelled [00:22:06]: “The Zionist entity bears full responsibility for this most recent escalation, and just yesterday, over 230 Gazans ascended to martyrdom at the hands of the Zionist state. We uphold the rights of our people to resist colonialism and imperialism and return to our land by any means necessary!”

Idriss later led [00:23:27] protesters in the chant: “Free, free Palestine!”

On October 7, 2023, Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis, kidnapped hundreds and wounded thousands. War crimes included mass rape and torture. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.” For more information, see the Canary Mission page on Hamas.

Arrested at an Anti-Israel Disruption during a Hamas War

On January 8, 2024, Idriss was reportedly arrested at an anti-Israel disruption titled: “Shut it Down for Palestine,” where protesters across New York City blocked three bridges and one tunnel.

Protesters reportedly chanted: “NYPD, KKK, IDF; they’re all the same!” They also demanded “an immediate end to US ‘aid’ to Israel and a lifting of the siege on Gaza.”

Israel and Egypt implemented a UN-approved [pp. 39–41] joint blockade of the Gaza Strip in 2011 to stop Hamas from acquiring more sophisticated rockets. Hamas went around the blockade by smuggling weaponry through tunnels under the Philadelphi corridor separating Gaza from Egypt.

NYPD and Port Authority Police Department reportedly arrested more than 300 protesters that day and issued desk appearance tickets for disorderly conduct charges. The disruption was organized by multiple anti-Israel activist groups, including PYM, Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

Arrested at the Pro-Hamas Encampment at Columbia

On May 20, 2024, The Freelance News reported that Naye Idriss was arrested at the Columbia encampment in April 2024. Idriss was charged with “third-degree criminal trespass…punishable by up to three months in jail, a year of probation and/or up to a $500 fine.”

Idriss was one of 13 protesters arrested at Hamilton Hall who rejected a plea bargain agreement offered by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office to dismiss her case. She “Pled Not Guilty” to the charge and was slated to appear in the New York Criminal Court on January 24, 2025.

On April 30, 2024, participants in Columbia’s second pro-Hamas encampment forced their way into the university’s Hamilton Hall, barricading themselves in the building and taking three Columbia custodians hostage. Protesters also vandalized [00:00:55] and destroyed university property inside the hall. A police raid on Hamilton found knives, gas masks, ropes and literature that read: “...DESTROY zionist business interests everywhere!...DEATH TO AMERICA!...”

On May 3, 2024, The Freelance News published a photo of Idriss smiling following her arraignment at the New York Criminal Court.

On April 17, 2024, Columbia students and anti-Israel activists set up a pro-Hamas “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” on the university's main lawn. Many participants were arrested and the encampment featured multiple violent incidents, including taking over a campus building and taking a university worker hostage.

Activists protested Israel’s war against Hamas and demanded that Columbia “divest from companies and institutions that profit from Israeli apartheid, genocide and occupation…”

The action had reportedly been planned for months and was organized by the Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) coalition. The encampment was also organized by Columbia’s banned pro-Hamas activist group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and the university chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP). Activists reportedly received training from National SJP and other anti-Israel organizations.

The encampment was also in support of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Celebrating the Death of Israelis

The tweet translated said: “A picture of the martyr Diaa Hamarsheh... He carried out an operation in ‘Tel Aviv’ in occupied Palestine 48 [Israel] today, which led to the killing of 5 settlers. All support and glory for any action that creates an atmosphere of fear and insecurity for the settlers. They will know neither security nor peace on stolen land! ✌️🇵🇸].”

In March 2022, Diaa Hamarsheh, who was in Israel illegally, opened fire on civilians and killed five people in Bnei Brak, Israel. Among the dead was the Israeli Arab police officer who killed Hamarsheh, two Orthodox Jewish fathers and two foreign Ukrainian workers.

On March 26, 2020, Idriss tweeted a screenshot of a tweet celebrating the first coronavirus death in Israel. The screenshot included news of the death and the screenshot said: “anyway should i paint my nails red or green today.”

Idriss wrote in her tweet: “the person who originally tweeted this was bullied by liberal zios to remove it so imma tweet it out for her again 😊😘😘.”

The term "Zio" is a common derogatory reference to Zionists, as well as an often-used anti-Semitic slur among white supremacists.

Anti-Semitism

On October 10, 2020, Idriss tweeted: “still thinking abt that time soft libs tried to scold me for using ‘zio’ because ‘it’s a slur’.,,.,.....Bi**h....it’s supposed to be 🧿👄🧿🧿👄🧿

On February 19, 2021, Idriss tweeted: “favorite video on the internet now, Palestinians in alquds [Jerusalem] throwing snowballs at the zio settlers 😍😍🤣.”

Idriss included a video showing Palestinians throwing snowballs at a group of Orthodox Chassidic Jews while mocking them, near one of the gates to Jerusalem’s Old City.

Idolizing Terrorists (PFLP)

On July 9, 2022, Idriss shared on Facebook an article written by her father about Ghassan Kanafani and added: “في ذكرى يوم استشهاد الكاتب والمناضل الثوري غسان كنفاني الذي يصادف اليوم، اعيد نشر مقال كتبه بابا في ٢٠١٧ عن تجديد فكر كنفاني ❤️[In memory of the martyrdom day of the writer and revolutionary fighter Ghassan Kanafani, which happens today, an article written by dad in 1963 about renewing Kanafani's thought ❤️].”

Kanafani was a leading member and spokesperson for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) during the terrorist organization’s early years. Kanafani announced the PFLP’s responsibility for the Lod Airport Massacre of May 1972 and was linked to the airport attackers. The attack killed 26 people and wounded 80 others.

Also on July 9, 2022, Idriss wrote on Facebook referring to Kanafani as “the great.”

On March 7, 2022, Idriss tweeted: “‘وهل هناك أبلغ وأفصح من فعل الشهيد…’
باسل الأعرج [‘Is there anything more illuminating and eloquent than becoming a martyr?’ Basil Al Araj].”

Basel Al Araj was killed on March 6, 2017, in a shoot-out with Israeli troops during an arrest raid. He had been suspected of belonging to a terror cell planning to carry out attacks on Israeli targets. Two M-16 assault rifles and an improvised Carlo-style submachine gun were found inside his home.

On the same day, Idriss tweeted a quote attributed to her father praising Al Araj.

[Culture does not take its farthest and most ingrained reach in people's consciousness if it does not actually engage with the occupation: with saws, stones, rifles, shells, and rockets. Otherwise, culture remains a path to self-elevation and hollow prestige.’ Samah Idris about what we can learn from the martyr Basil Al-Araj].”

On February 22, 2022, Idriss tweeted: “What dad Samah Idriss wrote 3 years ago, shortly after the death of his best friend, the activist and amazing human being Maher Al-Yamani. Maher was the right hand of George Habash and one of the hijackers in 1968 (in Greece)... and the first to carry me after I was born. I hope to share this wonderful man with those who do not know him, as dad wished ... 💚

George Habash, who has been called“the godfather of Middle East terrorism,” founded the terrorist organization the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). In 1970, Habash was the mastermind behind the hijacking of four Western airliners known as the Dawson Field hijackings. In 1972, the PFLP collaborated with Japanese Red Army terrorists to massacre 24 people at Israel's Lod International Airport (renamed Ben Gurion International Airport).

On January 31, 2022, Idriss shared on Facebook a post from her father that aimed to “honor” the memory of the “wise George Habash.”

On March 31, 2020, Idriss tweeted about Leila Khaled: “Hahahah my hijacker queen 😍😍.”

Leila Khaled is a leading member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and participated in the hijacking of TWA Flight 840 in 1969 and El Al Flight 219 in 1970. As of 2017, Khaled was a member of PFLP's Political Bureau. Khaled has said that the second intifada failed because it was not violent enough, advocated [00:36:07] for the use of children in terror activities and compared Zionists to Nazis.

On May 13, 2017, Idriss participated in a “Saltwater Challenge” with other CUAD activists.

The “Saltwater Challenge” was held in solidarity with hunger-striking Palestinian prison inmates convicted of terrorism. The strike was initiated by Marwan Barghouti, who was serving five consecutive life sentences for his role in suicide bombings that killed five Israelis during the second intifada. Aarab Barghouti, the son of Marwan Barghouti, launched the "Saltwater Challenge."

Hatred of Israelis and Zionists

On May 3, 2020, Idriss tweeted: “I’m rly so over Zionists like u guys r so!!!! Really truly why do u still exist.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture. Zionism is a core part of the identity of most Jews.

OnJune 26, 2020 , Idriss tweeted: “Literally Zionists are so f**king STUPID!!! like hey maybe don’t colonize the land??Suck my mother f**king d**k.”

On March 14, 2021, Idriss tweeted: “if you’re friends with a Zionist and also my friend, no you’re not💜.”

On October 12, 2021, Idriss tweeted: “abt to throw up on these ‘israelis’ sitting next to me on the plane 🤝🤑.”

Hatred of Israel

On April 17, 2020, Idriss tweeted: “F**k #TheNonExistentCountry,” in response to a tweet that said: “F**k #Israel.”

On May 5, 2020, Idriss was asked by a campus news site what her “favorite Columbia controversy” was and she responded: “People thinking israeli settler colonialism and apartheid is controversial…truly mindblowing!”

On July 28, 2020, Idriss tweeted: “... Let me make one thing clear: as long as israel exists we have a problem w her. Period…”

On September 29, 2020, Idriss posted a photo of Columbia SJP activists in front of a display known as a “mock apartheid wall” that was falling over onto the activists. She wrote: “the wall at Columbia fell, and soon the real one, followed by the entire state!”

The “mock apartheid wall” is a series of panels meant to represent Israel's security barrier, which was built as a deterrent to Palestinian terror attacks and in response to Palestinian sniper attacks. Panels feature misleading statistics and “facts” that present a skewed image of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Idriss retweeted a May 19, 2021 tweet during Israeli’s Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW) against Hamas that had a video showing men, women and children at a beach running to bomb shelters as sirens warned of an incoming rocket attack from Gaza.

انها مجرد مسألة وقت الان…[This scene on 15_5_2021, that is, on the 73rd anniversary of the Nakba, is one of the scenes of the collapse of the Zionists... The occupiers are like rats [running] to shelters by the order of the resistance of #Gaza… We live in the time of Israel's defeat. It is no longer a dream. It is a reality and it will be. It's just a matter of time now…].”

In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.

The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by drawing a comparison to the Holocaust, known in Hebrew as the Shoah, meaning “catastrophe.”

On May 24, 2021, Idriss updated her Facebook cover photo to an image captioned with the words: “علموا اولادكم ان فلسطين محتلة وأن المسجد الأقصى اسير وان الكيان الصهيوني عدو وأن المقاومة شرفوانه لايوجد دولة اسمها اسرائيل [Teach them: teach your children that Palestine is occupied; and that Al-Aqsa Mosque is a prisoner; that the Zionist entity is an enemy; that resistance is an honor, and that there is no state called Israel].

The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state. Such propaganda has led to multiple periods of violence against Israeli civilians.

Anti-Israel activists use the term “resistance” to refer to violence and terror perpetrated against Israeli civilians and their allies. It is used to glorify and encourage anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence. Anti-Israel activists chant slogans such as: “Resistance by any means necessary!” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” in response to terror attacks.

On June 10, 2022, Idriss posted on Facebook, alluding to the “right of return”: “❤️❤️❤️ تابعوا العمل التحرري لحركة الشباب الفلسطيني، حركة تأمل لبناء مشروع عالمي و شعبي يواجه الصهيونية والتطبيع والامبريالية في سبيل التحرير الكامل والعودة. [Follow the liberation work of the Palestinian Youth Movement, which aspires to construct a worldwide and popular project that opposes Zionism, normalization, and imperialism in pursuit of total liberation and return].”

The “right of return” is a Palestinian demand discredited as a means to eliminate Israel. International law mandates no absolute right of return and UN Resolution 194, which defined principles for “refugees wishing to return to their homes,” was unanimously rejected by Arab nations following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

Hatred of America

On January 3, 2020, Idriss tweeted: “lit rally F**K America. That’s all.”

On the same day, Idriss tweeted: “Seeing all these liberal Americans making the US attacks all about trump is pissing me the fuck off. Trump is shit. Clinton is shit. America is shit. US Imperialism is bipartisan. Got it?”

On March 31, 2020, Idriss tweeted: “... im so mad always I hate America!!… Living here makes me forget how this is literally the most violent and barbaric country in the world 🤢 I hate it here.”

Vandalizing Property

In January 2023, Idriss vandalized a discarded Israeli mail service bag at NYU where she wrote “F**K” over the word “ISRAEL” printed on the bag. She also wrote “Free Palestine” on the bag. The incident occurred at NYU’s Elmer Holmes Bobst Library, where she worked as an Arabic translator.

NYU decided not to rehire Idriss for her position and the university reportedly opened an investigation into Idriss for violating student conduct, committing vandalism and defacing school property.

On January 27, 2023, Idriss tweeted: “This is me — then they essentially fired me. NYU is an absurd Zionist institution … F**k ‘Israel’ and free Palestine 🇵🇸

Idriss’s tweet included an article about the incident from the anti-Israel website Electronic Intifada (EI). The article reported that the anti-Israel group Palestine Legal was representing Idriss.

September 17, 2021 - Promoting Incitement at a WOL Rally

Idriss promoted [00:08:54] incitement at a WOL rally and march on September 17, 2021, in Manhattan. She was at the front of the march where she held a banner that said: “Globalize the Intifada.”

The term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” carries the connotation of violence. Palestinian intifadas waged against Israel have been marked since 1987 by hundreds of hijackings, shootings, stabbings, bombings and suicide missions.

In a YouTube video, which was published on October 2, 2021, Idriss wore a white shirt and a black and white keffiyeh patterned headband. Idriss marched [00:12:41] immediately behind WOL leader Nerdeen Kiswani. Another video from the rally showed [00:00:22] her wearing the same outfit and her shirt said: “Anti-Zionist vibes only.”

During the march, Idriss marched and chanted [00:31:18]: “Israel, you can’t hide! We charge you with genocide! Israel, what do you say? How many kids did you kill today? U.S.A., you can’t hide! We charge you with genocide! U.S.A., what do you say? How many kids did you kill today?” She appeared [00:31:40] at the center of the screen behind the “Globalize the Intifada” banner.

Later at the rally, Idriss appeared [00:27:24] standing behind a black banner that said: “HONOR THE MARTYRS OF PALESTINE,” while waving a Palestinian flag.

March 30, 2022 - Celebrating Terrorism at a WOL Rally

Idriss celebrated [00:31:32] terrorism, led [00:33:18] a chant calling for Israel’s destruction and spread [00:31:25] hatred of Israel at a March 30, 2022 WOL rally in Manhattan.

Idriss represented [00:31:10] PYM at the rally, which WOL organized to target “all Zionist settler orgs in our city and worldwide!” Idriss spoke outside of the building housing the Friends Of The IDF (FIDF), a reference to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF)

Idriss said [00:31:25] that Palestinians “struggle for their land against the ongoing Nakba and Zionist settler colonial theft.”

During her speech, Idriss then said [00:31:32] that people should celebrate “anti-zionist resistance, whether through the form of mass strikes, armed struggle, boycott and anti-normalization practices and cultural resistance.”

Idriss then said [00:31:44] that “anti-zionist resistance” was something that was “ever more important today, in the face of increasing normalization efforts from disgusting traitor Arab and other governments colluding with imperial and neo-colonial forces.”

Idriss also said [00:33:02] that the “Great March of Return” emphasized the “struggle and the journey and the inevitable return generation after generation until total liberation, a struggle against Zionism and against imperialism in all its forms.”

On March 30, 2018, about 30,000 Gazans approached Israel’s border fence to join in “Land Day Protests,” which were also called the “March of Return.” The march was organized and funded by Hamas as a campaign of violent protests to spotlight the “right of return,” a policy discredited as a means to eliminate Israel.

Idriss concluded [00:33:18] her speech by leading the chant: “ من المية للمية فلسطين عربية [From Water to Water! Palestine is Arab],” the Arabic version of “From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free!” She then led [00:33:33] the chant: “Free, Free Palestine!”

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free,” is a chant used [00:02:52] to call for the elimination of the State of Israel.

April 20, 2022 - Spreading Hatred of Israel at a WOL Rally

Idriss repeatedly joined [00:05:27] anti-Israel chants promoting incitement and [00:18:44] hatred of Israel as she participated in an April 20, 2022 WOL rally. She appeared [00:05:43] dressed in blue jeans, a light purple jacket, a light purple shirt and a black and white patterned keffiyeh around her neck.

The WOL rally was titled: “NYC EMERGENCY RALLY TO SUPPORT PALESTINIAN RESISTANCE & LIBERATION BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.” It occurred at the Israeli consulate in Manhattan, which WOL called the “Zionist mission.”

In a YouTube video of the event, Idriss chanted [00:05:27]: “From New York to Gaza, Globalize the Intifada!” She also chanted [00:06:56]: “Not just annexation! Not just occupation! Fight for liberation, bring the whole thing down!”

Idriss appeared [00:07:02] at the center of the screen, holding a sign that read: “PALESTINIAN LIBERATION” and “BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.” She stood [00:07:08] next to two banners spread on the ground. One said: “GLOBALIZE THE INTIFADA.” The second banner said “RESISTANCE UNTIL RETURN and “WITHIN OUR LIFETIME.”

Later, Idriss chanted [00:18:44]: “One, two, three, four, occupation no more! Five, six, seven, eight, smash the settler-Zionist state!”

At the same rally, activist Saadah Masoud repeatedly punched and kicked Matt Greenman, a Jewish man who was waving an Israeli flag. Masoud stole the flag and gave it to WOL activists who burned the flag while walking at the front of the march.

May 15, 2022 - WOL Rally

Idriss participated [slide 4] in a May 15, 2022 WOL rally titled: “Nakba 74.” The rally was held in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

At the rally, Kiswani said [00:01:29]: “The Israeli Zionist colonizer knows no bounds. They squat on our land and kill our people because they have nothing less than complete genocide and annihilation planned for the Palestinian people.”

WOL

Within Our Lifetime (WOL) is a pro-terror activist group in New York City dedicated to Israel’s destruction within the lifetime of its members.

Acts of violence and physical confrontations with police have frequently occurred at WOL protests and marches. WOL uses harassment campaigns to target pro-Israel organizations or companies that do business with Israel, making it a part of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Multiple activists who have either burned Israeli flags or led chants at WOL rallies were later jailed for violent anti-Semitic hate crimes, including Saadah Masoud and Waseem Awawdeh. In Masoud’s case, he received 18 months in jail for an anti-Semitic assault at an April 2022 WOL rally and two other anti-Semitic assaults in 2021.

WOL promotes “resistance” against Israel “by any means necessary,” calls to “Globalize the Intifada,” spreads incitement and idolizes [00:34:06] Palestinian terrorists like Leila Khaled and others at rallies and online events.

WOL was founded by Nerdeen Kiswani and Dan Cione in 2015. Kiswani is a frequent speaker at WOL rallies where she has promoted terrorism against Israelis and called for the death of Zionists. She has also provided support for Masoud and other activists following their arrests.

WOL began as the New York City chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), going by NYC SJP, but changed its name in 2018. The group is not found to be registered in any U.S. state as a nonprofit organization under its official name. Nor is there any listing for WOL under its name on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website for tax-exempt organizations.

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Student Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
