Lina Eid

Overview

Lina Eid has defended an anti-Israel disruption and attended the 2016 Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) national conference.

As of July 2021, Eid was listed as a member of the public Facebook group for Students Against Israeli Apartheid (SAIA), an affiliate of SJP at George Mason University (GMU). She indicated on her Instagram page that she attended the National SJP (NSJP) Conference, held on November 4-6, 2016, at GMU.

As of July 2021, Eid’s LinkedIn page said she was a “Marketing Associate, Comms [Communications] Production at Poshmark,” in San Francisco, CA, since 2021. Poshmark is an online marketing platform where users can buy or sell clothing.

As of the same date, Eid’s LinkedIn page said she was a Legislative Intern in the Office of Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., from August 2017 to January 2018. She was also listed as the Editor-in-chief of the online publication The Odyssey from July to December 2017.

Eid’s LinkedIn page also said she received a bachelor’s degree in Global Affairs from GMU in 2019. In December 2020, Eid’s LinkedIn page indicated that she was affiliated with GMU’s chapter of the Muslim Student Association (MSA).

Prior to attending college, she had whitewashed terrorism and promoted an anti-Israel agitator.

Defending an Anti-Israel Disruption

On October 29, 2016, Eid tweeted:“I have never been more proud of a group of students in my life, standing against the oppression of Palestinians.”

Eid’s tweet linked to a video of an anti-Israel protest at the University College London (UCL) where activists disrupted a talk by pro-Israel speaker Hen Mazzig. At Mazzig’s presentation, anti-Israel activists called [00:00:32] Mazzig a “war criminal,” then physically blocked [00:01:04] the entrance to prevent the audience and organizers from leaving. Police officers were called [00:01:00] to stop the demonstration.

During Mazzig’s talk, protesters chanted [00:00:20] “Free, free Palestine” as well as the chant [00:00:09] “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free!”

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free” is a chant calling to dismantle the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state.

On November 3, 2016, Eid wrote an article in The Odyssey defending the protesters at UCL. She quoted Yahya Abu-Seido, the then-president of an anti-Israel group at UCL, who blamed “the zionist side” for the incident. Abu-Seido said: “Would I, as a member of the protest, do it again knowing what the outcome was? Definitely.”

Attending the 2016 National SJP Conference

On November 8, 2016, Eid posted a photo of her and other activists at the National SJP Conference at GMU. She wrote: “#NSJP2016 PS [Palestine].”

Also on November 8, 2016, Eid was tagged in a Facebook photo at the National SJP 2016 Conference posted by fellow attendee Ayesha Khan.

Pre-College Whitewashing Terrorism

On March 27, 2016, Eid posted to Facebook a YouTube video of then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton speaking [00:05:34] against recent terror attacks in Israel that included stabbings, shootings and vehicle attacks.

In her Facebook post, Eid commented on the video: “What's so funny is when she said parents are too scared to let their children walk down the street...There are no reports of Israeli children being murdered, let alone threatened on their own streets.”

On March 8, 2016, a Palestinian terrorist murdered an American citizen and wounded 11 others in a stabbing attack in Tel Aviv, Israel.

On the same day, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that two Israeli border police officers were seriously wounded in a shooting attack in Jerusalem and a man was stabbed in a terrorist attack in Petah Tikva, outside Tel Aviv.

On April 26, 2015, Eid posted on Facebook in support of Dima al-Wawi: “Palestinian childhood is being abused and robbed everyday by the occupier.”

12-year-old Al-Wawi was imprisoned for attempting to stab a security guard at the Israeli community Karmei Tzur. Al-Wawi later claimed she intended to kill the guard and hoped she would be killed in the process. “I was dreaming that I was going to be martyred,” she said.

Pre-College Promoting an Anti-Israel Agitator

On July 27, 2014, during Israel’s Operation Protective Edge (OPE), Eid posted on Facebook a video of anti-Israel activist Dr. Mads Gilbert, titled: “Dr. Mads Gilbert Doctor in Gaza from Norway Exposes & Slams Israel America & UK!" The video featured [00:00:11] Dr. Gilbert speaking from Shifa Hospital in Gaza.

Israel commenced OPE in July 2014 to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.

Gilbert has been banned indefinitely from entering Gaza through Israel because of his connections to the Hamas leadership.

In 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2014 Gilbert was stationed at a hospital that served as a Hamas command center and rocket launching site. During that time he acted as a propagandist for the Hamas government in Gaza.

In 2001, following al Qaeda's September 11 terrorist attacks, Gilbert expressed support for the terror acts as a “legitimate response.” In December of 2009, Gilbert was accused of faking resuscitation on a dead child in Gaza for dramatic effect for a CNN video.

In her Facebook post, Eid quoted Gilbert as saying [00:02:11]: "At least the Palestinian fighters are fighting against Israeli tanks but the Israelis are fighting against children and women and that is despicable I think."

SAIA 2016 - Demonizing Israel

On October 5, 2015, SAIA posted on Facebook a photograph of a small child next to photographs of Israeli soldiers and claimed that "today, Israeli occupation soldiers arrested a three year old. For throwing stones."

On October 25, 2015, SAIA posted an article on Facebook claiming that “peace activist” Hashem Azzeh was “assassinated” by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In October 2015, Al Azzeh died following a battle with a cardiac condition. Palestinian news sources later claimed Al Azzeh’s death was caused by the IDF’s use of tear gas nearby.

On October 3, 2015, SAIA shared a video on Facebook and commented: “An Israeli Zionist lynch mob cheers the cold-blooded murder of 19 year old Fadi Alloun.”

Fadi Aloon was shot by Israeli security forces after he stabbed a 15-year-old Israeli boy. Several hours before the attack, Aloon posted “Either martyrdom or victory” on his Facebook page.

In October 2015, there was an upsurge in violence across Israel incited by Palestinian political and religious leaders. The wave of stabbings, known as the “Knife Intifada,” was characterized by young Palestinians throughout the country stabbing and attempting to stab Israeli civilians.

SAIA 2016 - Promoting a Libel

On September 30, 2016, SAIA GMU posted on Facebook a video from the Middle East Monitor, a news outlet directed by Daud Abdullah, who has signed a letter supporting Hamas and calling for violence against Israel.

The video promoted the Al-Durah hoax, an iconic piece of anti-Israel propaganda, fabricated on September 30, 2000 at the start of the Second Intifada by a France 2 reporter.

SAIA 2016 - Spreading Lies

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
