Husam Kaid

Overview

Husam Kaid [Husam Khaled] has spread anti-Semitism, promoted incitement and celebrated intifada violence as a leading activist for Within Our Lifetime (WOL), an anti-Israel group in New York City, since 2019.

Kaid has also expressed support for terrorism, spread hatred of Israel, trivialized the Holocaust and defended anti-Semitism. He has demonized Israel and promoted [00:42:22] hatred of the police.

As of July 2023, Kaid’s LinkedIn page said he was a remote sales engineer at Careerist since May 2023.

As of the same date, Kaid’s LinkedIn profile said he served as president of the City College of New York (CCNY) chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) from 2019 to 2020. In November 2019, a CCNY link indicated that he was CCNY SJP vice president. In April 2021, he was listed as CCNY SJP president on an official CCNY website.

For more information, see the CCNY SJP Chapter Profile.

As of April 2022, Kaid was also an activist with the New York chapter of Al-Awda (Al-Awda NY).

Kaid is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

As of July 2023, Kaid’s LinkedIn page said he was a legal intern for the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) New York (CAIR-NY) from July 2017 to April 2018.

Also as of July 2023, Kaid’s LinkedIn said he had been the “Government Affairs Manager” at the Washington Center for Yemeni Studies (WCYS) since October 2021. He had worked at WCYS since June 2020.

As of the same date, the WCYS website said that it was located in Brooklyn, New York. However, the WCYS Twitter said it was in Washington, D.C. Kaid’s LinkedIn page said WCYS was in the “Washington DC-Baltimore area.”

Kaid’s LinkedIn said that he was the co-founder of Bridges for Yemen, which is based in New York and began in January 2021. Kaid’s Instagram bio said that he was the co-founder of the U.S. chapter of Youth of the World Together (YWT Org).

Kaid’s LinkedIn also said he was an intern in the U.S. Senate from September to November 2022. He also served as the “Political Director” of Free Uyghur Now from May 2020 to September 2022.

Kaid graduated with a bachelor’s degree from CCNY in 2021. Kaid’s LinkedIn said he studied “International/Global Studies, Political Science and Government” and that he was a research assistant at CCNY from January 2019 to January 2021.

Kaid’s Facebook page also said that he lived in Brooklyn, New York.

As of July 2023, Kaid used the handle “@Husam_Khaled1” on Twitter and “@Husam_Khaled” on Instagram. Kaid also used the name “Husam K Kaid (Johnny T)” on Facebook.

Anti Semitism

On May 21, 2018, Kaid posted to Facebook a photo of a man waving a Palestinian flag at a rally, along with an Arabic poem, which translated:

“Rejoice over the knights of Allah with whom we shall come to you / You will be liberated from the Jews / We will redeem you and break the boundaries; then, the unity of existence will have been achieved / And that will become the Jews’ grave.”

On January 3, 2023, Kaid tweeted: “Imagine, just imagine, if this scenario was committed by other than ‘the chosen people’ against anyone other than #Palestinians This is ‘the Jewish people have an exclusive right on all the land’ in action but most people won’t dare say it! They keep burying seeds #Resistance.”

Kaid’s tweet was about an Israeli military operation to demolish the homes of two Palestinian terrorists who were killed after opening fire on Israeli troops, killing an Israeli soldier.

Promoting Incitement

On April 15, 2022, Kaid tweeted: “Why is the desecration of the Holiest Islamic site in Palestine so normalized? Why is #AlAqsaUnderAttack a recurring event? No zionist period, let alone zionist filth in uniform should be allowed anywhere near it!
#LongLivetheIntifada Stay angry!Stay enraged!Do NOT get used to this.”

Kaid’s tweet included an image of the interior of the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem with the words: “AL AQSA IS UNDER ATTACK.”

The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state. Such propaganda has led to multiple periods of violence against Israeli civilians.

At the end of March and beginning of April 2022, Palestinian terrorists killed 14 Israelis in a number of attacks.

On August 22, 2021, Kaid wrote an anti-Israel tweet that said: “Keep your eyes on the enemy! And your gun, if you have one!”

On May 31, 2021, Kaid posted an Instagram video where he yelled multiple chants as he stood on a truck at the front of a WOL march in the Bronx.

Kaid joined [00:00:05] in the chants: “لا اله الا الله والشهيد حبيب الله [There is no God but Allah and the Martyr is a Beloved of Allah],” followed [00:00:30] by “باب الأقصى من حديدما بفتحها الى الشهيد [Al-Aqsa’s Gate is Made of Iron, Only Martyrs Can Open It].”

In the same Instagram video, Kaid joined [00:00:52] the chant: “ من المية للمية فلسطين عربية [From Water to Water! Palestine is Arab],” the Arabic version of “From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free!” He then joined [00:01:08] the chant: “ على وعلو الصوت يا نحررها يا إمانموت [Raise up your voice, either we liberate it or we will die]!”

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free” is a chant calling to dismantle the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state.

On May 15, 2021, Kaid posted an Instagram video where he chanted [00:01:13] from the top of an open truck: “ بالروح والدم نفديك يا فلسطين [With soul and blood we’ll redeem you, Palestine],” a phrase used [00:00:23] by Yasser Arafat during the second intifada.

In the same Instagram video, Kaid also chanted [00:00:38] “لا اله الا الله والشهيد حبيب الله [There is no God but Allah and the Martyr is a Beloved of Allah].”

Celebrating Intifada Violence

On September 28, 2021, Kaid wrote on Instagram in celebration of the start of the second intifada: “Sep 28, 2000 - 20Liberation
#BeTheIntifada #FreePalestine #IntifadaUntilLiberation.”

The second intifada (2000-2005) was characterized by more than 120 suicide bombings targeting Israeli civilians on buses and in cafes.

Since the early 2000s, the term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” has carried the connotation of violence.

Kaid’s Instagram post featured [00:00:01] a video of Kaid leading a crowd in call and response: “And we promise to be the Intifada that we want to see in this world! Today, tomorrow and every day!”

On November 15, 2019, Kaid featured [00:00:19] in a YouTube video where he led chants at a WOL rally in Times Square in opposition to an Israeli operation against terrorists in Gaza.

In the video, Kaid told [00:00:19] protesters: “There is only one solution! Intifada, Revolution!”

In November 2019, Israel launched Operation Black Belt to stop rocket attacks from Gaza into Israel. From November 12 to November 14, 2019, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terror group sent hundreds of rockets into Israel, targeting major civilian population centers.

In the same Youtube video, Kaid continued [00:00:30]: “The intifada does not have to be in Gaza or Palestine! We are going to have an intifada in every classroom! We are going to have an intifada on every college campus! We are going to shut down all the Zionist events!”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.

In the same video, Kaid then praised [00:00:45] Harvard University activists for staging a walk-out out of an Israeli official’s speech. Kaid concluded [00:01:05] “Let’s shut down all the Zionists and let’s start an intifada everywhere we are!”

On February 15, 2019, Kaid posted an article to Facebook that defended CUNY SJP for using the term “intifada” in its activism. Kaid commented that “zionist snowflakes crying because people are commemorating the Intifada #LONGLIVETHEINTIFADA.”

Supporting Terrorism

On May 15, 2021, during Israel’s Operation Guardian of the Walls(OGW) against Hamas, Kaid tweeted a video where he led a protest. He said [00:00:11]: “You have these idiots talk about conflict. There is no conflict! It’s resistance! What is it?” Other protesters replied [00:00:20]: “Resistance!”

In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.

In the same Twitter video, Kaid went on to chant [00:00:25]: “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” Kaid then chanted [00:00:45]: “يا شهيد ارتاح ارتاح احنا نكمل الكفاح [Oh the martyr, rest (in peace), we'll continue the struggle]!”

On May 28, 2021, Kaid shared a video on Instagram where described his desire to see Israel destroyed through violent means. In the video, Kaid said [00:05:30]: “Palestinians do not buy their stones or missiles, but rather compile them themselves. For indeed, the independence of a nation is conditional upon the independence of its weapons.”

In the video, Kaid also praised [00:05:06] Palestinian rioters for each “new confrontation” against Israelis, stating: “Lydd [Lod] got this close to liberating itself قولي ثقيل لأن قولي يحمل دما وغال وعال هو الدم [My word is heavy, because my word carries blood, and the blood is precious and dear].”

On May 11, 2021, during OGW, violent Arab riots broke out in Israel’s mixed Jewish-Arab city of Lod and in other Israeli cities with large Arab populations. The Lod rioters reportedly raised Hamas and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) flags, and attacked Israeli civilians with slabs and rocks, firebombs and metal rods. Rioters also torched synagogues, cars and businesses, and vandalized hospital medical equipment, schools and government buildings.

Kaid captioned the Instagram post: “Liberating all of it is possible! … #FromTheRiverToTheSea.” He concluded [00:10:10] the video: “Resistance brings it closer and compromise takes it further away.”

Hatred of Israel

On June 1, 2021, Kaid featured [00:01:29] in a Youtube video where he held an Israeli flag while other activists burned it. He was with other WOL activists at a protest in the Bronx on May 31, 2021.

On May 15, 2021, Kaid featured in two Youtube videos where he joined [00:00:01] with other WOL activists in burning [00:09:46] an Israeli flag during a rally organized by the Strike MoMA campaign, launched in April 2021.

In one video, Kaid lit [00:09:46] the flag with a cigarette lighter while he joined the crowd in accusing Israel of “genocide.” In another video, he joined [00:00:01] the chant: “It is right to rebel! Israel, go to hell!”

Kaid also yelled [00:42:25]: “How do you spell ‘murderer?’” Protesters replied [00:42:27]: “IDF [Israel Defense Forces]!”

Strike MoMA was a campaign that comprised ten demonstrations in 2021 outside the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in Manhattan. The campaign targeted several of MoMA’s Jewish and pro-Israel trustees “for their alleged involvement in violent, imperialist, or predatory business practices.”

On April 27, 2019, Kaid shared to Facebook a post with a cartoon of an ISIS member wearing a Jewish star on his hat, captioned: “Have you ever wondered Why ISIS never attacked Israel? The post concluded: “Many people believe that Jews and America have created ISIS, to Rob away the Oil from Muslim Countries.”

On January 20, 2019, Kaid wrote on Facebook that Israel is a “global threat to all people.” His post shared a post with the same allegation, as well as the claim that Israel practices “unabashed, unapologetic ethno-racial supremacy.”

Trivializing the Holocaust

On January 27, 2019, Kaid wrote on Facebook: “Let’s cry about the holocaust that happened decades ago and do nothing about the ones happening today!”

On February 5, 2019, Kaid wrote on Facebook: “We learn about the holocaust in school but we never learn about what the zionists did to the Palestinians who welcomed European Jewish refugees, not too long after the holocaust! From the river to the sea #FREEPALESTINE.”

The claim that Palestinians saved Holocaust survivors has been denounced by politicians and described by leading historian Benny Morris as “completely ignorant” or a lie. Great Britian issued a “White Paper” constraining Jewish immigration to Mandatory Palestine from 1939 to 1945, in response to Arab opposition to and riots.

Defending Anti-Semitism

On March 6, 2019, Kaid posted to Facebook a New York Times article about an incident earlier that month where Congresswoman Ilhan Omar addressed pro-Israel politicians, saying [00:00:42]: “I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country.”

Kaid wrote in the post: “‘It’s all about the Benjamins baby’ #AIPAC [American Israel Public Affairs Committee] #IlhanOmar #IStandWithIlhan #BDS #AntiZionism.”

The stated mission of AIPAC is to “strengthen, protect and promote the U.S.-Israel relationship in ways that enhance the security of the United States and Israel.”

On February 13, 2019, Kaid wrote on Facebook in support of Omar after she claimed that Congressional support for Israel is only due to political donations from groups like the AIPAC

In one tweet that month, Omar wrote: “It's all about the Benjamins baby 🎶,” a reference to $100 bills, which echoed the anti-Semitic conspiracy theory that Jews control the government. She was denounced by top Congressional leaders.

Kaid wrote in his Facebook post: “‘It’s all about the Benjamin’s baby’ is #AntiSemitic 😂😂 Omar should NOT have apologized!” Kaid also shared a Facebook video titled: “Ilhan Omar said NOTHING wrong.”

On February 12, 2019, Kaid posted on Facebook: “Saying anti-Zionism is Anti-Semitic Is like saying: Being anti-Isis makes one Islamophobic. It don’t work like that! I am a very proud and unapologetic anti-zionist!”

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g., by claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavor.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 other countries have adopted the definition as well.

Demonizing Israel

On October 23, 2021, Kaid tweeted: “The [sic] literally leave no option for Palestinians other than armed resistance…” Kaid’s tweet was in opposition to Israel naming six Palestinian organizations as terror groups.

In October 2021, Israel’s Ministry of Defense declared six Palestinian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to be “terror organizations” operating “as an arm” of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terror group. The six NGOs were accused of funneling donor aid to militants and employing senior PFLP members, “including activists involved in terror activity.”

On May 10, 2021, Kaid tweeted: “#SheikhJarrah #zionistterror.” Kaid was responding to a tweet that said: “Happening now inside masjid el Aqsa and people are getting chocked [sic] from the gas bombs.”

Incitement surrounding Al-Aqsa and Sheikh Jarrah were leading factors in Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists firing over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at Israeli population centers from May 10 to 21, 2021. In response to rocket attacks from Gaza, Israel launched “Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW),” striking military targets in the terrorist-controlled enclave.

In May 2021, calls to “save” Sheikh Jarrah, a Jerusalem neighborhood at the center of a property dispute, led to violence against Israelis and were one of the leading factors in Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists firing over 4,300 rockets from Gaza into Israel that month.

On November 16, 2019, Kaid was featured in an SJP CCNY Facebook photo where he held a sign that read: “Israel is an Apartheid State.”

On October 26, 2019, Kaid posted an article on Facebook from trueactivist.com headlined: “‘ISIS Commander’ Arrested By Libyan Authorities Exposed As Israeli Mossad Agent.” Kaid commented: “Over and over.”

On May 18, 2018, Kaid posted to Facebook a photo that publicized a “Nakba Day” rally in Times Square, where he wrote: “Share & Come!!!!!”

The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.

Hatred of Police

On May 15, 2021, Kaid featured [00:42:22] in a Youtube video where he led the chant: “How do you spell ‘racist?’” Protesters replied: “NYPD [New York Police Department]!”

On May 31, 2021, Kaid posted an Instagram video where he and other anti-Israel activists protested outside of a police station after some activists were arrested, for what Kaid claimed was for “waving flags.”

Kaid said [00:00:01]: “So the pigs, a.k.a. the NYPD, thought it would be a smart idea to arrest some of the protesters for no other reason, for no other reason than waving flags … We ain't leaving until we get them back.”

WOL Activism

On May 15, 2021, Kaid tweeted a video where he led a WOL protest and claimed [00:00:01]: “Gaza is the world's largest open air prison. It has been under siege since 2007.” Kaid was wearing a WOL shirt in the video.

Israel and Egypt implemented a United Nations-approved [pp. 39–41] joint blockade of the Gaza Strip in 2011 to stop Hamas from acquiring more sophisticated rockets.

On October 23, 2019, Kaid posted to Facebook a link soliciting new members for WOL Palestine. The link said: “Interested in becoming a member of Within Our Lifetime? Apply by filling out this form here and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can!”

Al-Awda Activism

As of April 2022, Kaid’s Instagram bio concluded with a link that went to a GoFundMe page to raise money for Al-Awda’s national conference between May 6 - 8, 2022, in New York City. The link said the converence would be aimed at “advancing Palestinian liberation and return,” a reference to the “right of return.”

The “right of return” is a Palestinian demand discredited as a means to eliminate Israel.

On April 16, 2022, Kaid featured [00:00:01] in an Al-Awda NY Twitter video from a rally where he promoted [00:00:25] Al-Awda’s national conference.

In the same video, Kaid led [00:01:48] protesters in anti-Israel chants, including: “Resistance is justified, when people are occupied!”

In the same thread that day, Al-Awda NY tweeted another video where Kaid invited [00:01:09] children to lead the crowd in chanting: “Free Free Palestine!” and “Not another nickel! Not another dime! No more money for Israel’s crimes!”

On November 15, 2019, Kaid shared to Facebook a post from Al-Awda NY leader Lamis Deek that featured a graphic promoting a rally, titled: “International Day of Solidarity with The Palestinan Resistance.” The rally was co-hosted by American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) and Al-Awda NY.

Other speakers at the rally chanted [00:01:24] “Does Israel have a right to exist?” The crowd replied [00:01:35]: “No!” The same speaker later asked [00:02:12] “When Palestine resists, is that terrorism?” The crowd responded [00:02:14]: “No!”

Support for BDS

On May 14, 2021, Kaid tweeted: “Why is there not a #BDS scanner phone app? Where my app developers at? If not now then when? #BDSscanner.”

On the same day, during Israel’s OGW in Gaza, Kaid tweeted: “#BDS #GazaUnderAttack.”

On April 11, 2021, Kaid tweeted: “#BDS.” Kaid was commenting on a tweet that read: “This #Ramadan, Don't Eat Into #Palestine. #CheckTheLabel & Boycott Israeli Dates.🗣️Please Retweet.”

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

WOL

Within Our Lifetime (WOL) is a pro-terror activist group in New York City dedicated to Israel’s destruction within the lifetime of its members.

Acts of violence and physical confrontations with police have frequently occurred at WOL protests and marches. WOL uses harassment campaigns to target pro-Israel organizations or companies that do business with Israel, making it a part of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Multiple activists who have either burned Israeli flags or led chants at WOL rallies were later jailed for violent anti-Semitic hate crimes, including Saadah Masoud and Waseem Awawdeh. In Masoud’s case, he received 18 months in jail for an anti-Semitic assault at an April 2022 WOL rally and two other anti-Semitic assaults in 2021.

WOL promotes “resistance” against Israel “by any means necessary,” calls to “Globalize the Intifada,” spreads incitement and idolizes [00:34:06] Palestinian terrorists like Leila Khaled and others at rallies and online events.

WOL was founded by Nerdeen Kiswani and Dan Cione in 2015. Kiswani is a frequent speaker at WOL rallies where she has promoted terrorism against Israelis and called for the death of Zionists. She has also provided support for Masoud and other activists following their arrests.

WOL began as the New York City chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), going by NYC SJP, but changed its name in 2018. The group is not found to be registered in any U.S. state as a nonprofit organization under its official name. Nor is there any listing for WOL under its name on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website for tax-exempt organizations.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.

CAIR

CAIR describes itself as a “grassroots civil rights and advocacy group” and “America's largest Muslim civil liberties organization, with regional offices nationwide.” Its official mission is “enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.”

CAIR reportedly has “significant ties” to the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as Hamas. A number of former CAIR employees have been convicted on fraud and terrorism-related charges that resulted monetary fines, jail terms and, sometimes, deportation.

CAIR was founded in 1994 and opened its first office in Washington, DC, with the help of a $5,000 donation from the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF), a charity founded by Mousa Abu Marzook.

Marzook, who was listed as a "Specially Designated Terrorist" by the U.S. Treasury Department in 1995, is reportedly a senior member of Hamas.

In May 2007, CAIR was listed as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in a U.S.-filed action against the HLF for providing funds to Hamas.

CAIR was also listed  as a terrorist entity by the United Arab Emirates, in 2014.
