On October 10, 2023, SJPUCR posted [slide 2] on Instagram:: “Solidarity Statement: Resistance in Gaza” with a graphic that said: “...WE UNEQUIVOCALLY DENOUNCE THE OCCUPATION AND ITS 75-YEAR-LONG MILITARY RULE. WE SUPPORT THE RESISTANCE IN GAZA AND THE REST OF OCCUPIED PALESTINE.”

Anti-Israel activists use the term “resistance” to refer to violence and terror perpetrated against Israeli civilians and their allies. It is used to glorify and encourage anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence. Anti-Israel activists chant slogans such as: “Resistance by any means necessary!” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” in response to terror attacks.

The statement continued [slide 5]: “GAZA IS THE CRADLE OF THE RESISTANCE…GLORY TO THE RESISTANCE, AND GLORY TO OUR MARTYRS.”

On October 17, 2023, SJP UCR posted on Instagram a document titled: “Condemnation Letter of the University of California Board of Regents Statement on Mideast Violence.”

The “Condemnation Letter” was a response to a letter dated October 10, 2023 issued by the UC Riverside Leadership which said: “Our community is reeling from the terror and escalating violence we are witnessing in Israel…Especially horrific is the use of hostages…”

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, approximately 2,900 heavily armed Hamas terrorists breached Israel’s border with Gaza. They executed numerous war crimes on civilians, including mass murder, beheadings of children, rape of men and women, torture, kidnappings and mutilation.

Hamas broadcast videos of their butchery on social media, often to victims’ accounts for families to see. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.” As of November 10, 2023, approximately 1,200 Israelis, the vast majority of them civilians, were murdered during the attacks. Hamas kidnapped 242 Israelis, including at least 30 children. At least 3,500 people were wounded, many severely.

A terrorist detained by Israel admitted he raped an Israeli woman when he broke into a kibbutz house during the October 7, 2023 attack. In March 2024, a former hostage of Hamas publicly stated she was sexually abused and tortured while in captivity.

SJP’s “Condemnation Letter” post said: “...We believe in the complete and total liberation of Palestine by any means necessary…”

Anti-Israel activists use the phrase “By any means necessary” as one of multiple euphemisms for terrorist violence, of which another is “resistance.”

The post continued: “...Palestine will one day be free, from the river to the sea…”

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free” is a chant used [00:02:47] to call for the elimination of the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state. In April 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning the chant as antisemitic.

The post claimed [slide 3] that Gaza has been besieged and converted into the world’s largest open-air prison.

Referring to Gaza as an “open-air prison” is a way to delegitimize the UN-approved [pp. 39–41] joint Israeli-Egyptian blockade of the Gaza Strip imposed in 2011 to prevent Hamas from acquiring more sophisticated rockets. Following Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, the Israeli military discovered that Hamas went around the blockade by smuggling weaponry through tunnels under the Philadelphi corridor separating Gaza from Egypt.

On October 10, 2023, SJP UCR posted [slide 3] on Instagram: “Solidarity Statement: Resistance in Gaza.” The post included [slide 3] a graphic that said: “ “WE RECOGNIZE THE APARTHEID REGIME UPHELD BY THE SETTLER COLONIAL OCCUPATION OF PALESTINE AS A CONTINUOUS ETHNIC CLEANSING. MILITARY VIOLENCE INFLICTED UPON PALESTINIANS IS AN ONGOING AND DAILY ELEMENT ESSENTIAL FOR UPHOLDING THE STATE OF ISRAEL. FOR 75 YEARS, PALESTINIANS HAVE EXPERIENCED …LIFE UNDER APARTHEID…”

The modern State of Israel was founded 75 years earlier, in 1948.

On November 8, 2023, one month after the October 7th Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, SJPUCR staged an anti-Israel sit-in on campus.

On February 26, 2024, SJPUCR posted on Instagram: “Our statement and recap regarding the sit-in on November 8th, 2023.” Included in the post was a graphic which read: “ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH, THE STUDENTS FOR JUSTICE IN PALESTINE AT UC RIVERSIDE STAGED A SIT-IN AT THE OFFICES OF THE CHANCELLORS AND ADMIN…...WE SOUGHT CHANCELLOR WILCOX TO ADDRESS THE ONGOING GENOCIDE IN GAZA…”

The post included [slide 5] a video of students sitting on either side of a hallway in the UC Riverside administration building near the Chancellor’s office, with Nassar walking between them, wearing a keffiyeh and holding a sign that read: “STOP FUNDING GENOCIDE.” Nasser is heard leading students in chanting [00:00:01, slide 5], as the students repeated after her: “ “Smash the Zionist settler state, 2-4-6-8, smash the Zionist settler state, smash the Zionist settler state, no more normalization, we demand full liberation.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture. Zionism is a core part of the identity of most Jews.

Nasser and the students continued to chant [00:00:01, [slide 6]: “... for Zionist slaughter, we want justice, you say how, end the seige on Gaza now.”

On February 28, 2024, SJPUCR posted a notice that said: “JOIN US IN BECOMING THE THIRD SCHOOL IN THE NATION TO DIVEST…WE NEED YOU THERE!!!...See you tomorrow…PS.”

On March 1, 2024, SJPUCR posted a video of the UC Riverside Senate meeting. Nassar was seen leading the SJPUCR and BDS groups, and speaking after the Associated Students of UC Riverside passed the divestment resolution.In the background of the video, Nassar is heard chanting [00:03:13]: “Resolution, revolution.”

After the BDS divestment bill passed, the students began to chant [00:09:48]: “Free Free Palestine…Netanyahu, you can’t hide we charge you with Genocide…From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free...”

Nassar continued to lead the chanting [0:10:31]: “What was the message…what is coming… something is coming…BDS, BDS! What is coming…something’s coming…revolution, revolution! We are the revolution. One solution, revolution…who is the revolution, we are the revolution.”

On March 1, 2024, SJP UCR posted a video of the UC Riverside Senate meeting during which UC Riverside’s divestment bill passed. The description said: “...UCR’s divestment bill passes 15-0-0 with an added ethical spending clause that all ASUCR funds will be subject to annual review to ensure they are not invested in companies who support or maintain the Israeli occupation…May we all live to see a liberated Palestine… ….”

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Student Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by pro-terror activist Omar Barghouti in 2005 to turn “Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.” Barghouti has also called for Israel's destruction and the BDS movement demands would result in that same goal.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been infiltrating university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments propose resolutions to boycott or divestment from Israel or Israeli-affiliated entities. BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents and pro-terror activism on campus.
