Zaina Salem

Overview

Zaina Salem has equated Israel with Nazi Germany and spread hatred of Israel on Twitter.

In 2013, Salem was affiliated with the Muslim Students Association (MSA) at the University of Akron (UA).

In 2015, Salem was affiliated with Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), an offshoot of the MSA.

As of March 2018, Salem’s Facebook page said she worked as a Corporate Communications Associate at US Acute Care Solutions and as a Freelance photographer frome “November 2016 to present.”

Salem said she was a “freelancer” with “The Suburbanite” since October 2016.

Salem’s Facebook page also said that she is 2016 graduate of the UA, where she pursued her degree in Journalism and Public Relations.

Equating Israel with Nazi Germany

On January 10, 2014, Salem tweeted: “We have learned nothing from the holocaust. It is happening again. We've allowed history to repeat itself. #freesyria #freepalestine.”

Spreading Hatred of Israel

On August 5, 2015, Salem tweeted: “It's time Israel is recognized as a TERRORIST state.”

On August 3, 2014, Salem tweeted: “It boils my blood when I hear people label hamas as a terrorist organization, but Israel is just ‘defending itself.’”

On December 27, 2013, Salem tweeted: “RT ‘@Rome_Fell: If Americans Knew - what every American needs to know about Israel/Palestine http://www.ifamericansknew.com/#.Ur5fmskR5U8.twitter …’”

The anti-Semitic organization If Americans Knew (IAK) was founded by anti-Israel agitator Alison Weir. IAK has been condemned for anti-Semitism by both the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the anti-Israel U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR).

On November 27, 2013, Salem tweeted: “Its disgusting what zionists do to Palestinians.”

MSA

The MSA was established by members of the Muslim Brotherhood in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with the goal of "spreading Islam as students in North America." A 2004 FBI investigation uncovered an internal Muslim Brotherhood document in which a brotherhood leader identified the MSA as "one of our organizations."

The MSA reportedly has “nearly 600 chapters” located in the United States and Canada, and is “the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America,” boasting conferences, special events, publications, websites and other activities.

The organization includes a number of previous chapter presidents with explicit links to terrorist groups. Included are al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki (Colorado State University), Somali al-Shabaab militant leader Omar Shafik Hammami (University of South Alabama) and Pakistani Taliban recruiter Ramy Zamzam of the MSA's Washington, D.C. council.
