Hammam Farah

Overview

Hammam Farah was rejected as an outpatient psychotherapist by a Jewish mental health patient on account of Farah's extensive anti-Israel activism. Farah has encouraged kidnappings of Israeli soldiers and called for an intifada. He has promoted and shown support for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terror attacks.

Farah has also promoted an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory and opposed the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of anti-Semitism.

He has spread hatred of Israel, is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement and has promoted anti-Israel activists.

In November 2019, Farah was reportedly the founder of Students Against Israeli Apartheid (SAIA) at York University (YU). SAIA is an alternate name for Students for Justice In Palestine (SJP). In 2019, Farah was still an activist with SAIA YU.

In 2013, Farah was banned from YU property for violating university policy, and SAIA YU’s student club status was revoked for disrupting academic activities on campus.

As of September 2020, Farah was listed by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) as a Registered Psychotherapist in the “Qualifying” category, with the license registration number 009507.

As of September 2020, Farah’s LinkedIn page said he was a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) from Jul 2020 - Present, in Ontario Canada and a JRNI Certified Life Coach, “issued in Nov 2019 with No Expiration Date.” Farah’s LinkedIn page also said that he received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Political Science from York University in 2007.

Farah’s LinkedIn also said he was studying for a diploma in “Psychodynamic Psychotherapy,” at the Toronto Centre for Training in Psychotherapy (CTP) from 2011 - 2020 and that he was issued a Certificate of Psychodynamic Studies from CTP in October 2013, with no expiration date.

As of September 2020, Farah’sLinkedIn and Twitter bio said he was a “Board member” of the Palestine House, a Palestinian Canadian Community Centre in the Greater Toronto Area.

Rejected as a Psychotherapist

In 2019, Farah featured in a research paper titled: “Silencing Palestine: Limitations on free speech within mental health organizations,” published in the International Journal of Applied Psychoanalytic Studies, in a special issue titled: “Settler Colonialism: The Palestinian/Israeli Case.”

The paper cited a September 2018 incident concerning Farah, while he was “a clinical trainee,” at the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy (CPT). During that time, the CPT referred a Jewish man “seeking outpatient psychotherapy” to Farah. The patient later “changed his mind about beginning the psychotherapy with Farah on account of Farah's ‘activism.’”

The paper continued: “Apparently, the prospective patient had instigated an internet search on Farah's profile and the feature written about him on the website Canary Mission had raised alarm...”

The paper then said: “The prospective patient had then notified the CPT. The supervisor asked Farah about his past activism and whether, as the Canary Mission website indicated, he promoted hate—because if he did indeed promote hate, she explained, then having his name associated with the CPT's name would reflect badly upon the CPT.”

According to the paper, the supervisor “did not state directly that Farah was in trouble with his training institute.” However, Farah stated that he “remains worried that some faculty members might be hesitant to refer potential patients and particularly Jewish patients to him.”

Encouraging Kidnappings

On July 20, 2014, Farah tweeted: “Hamas captures Israeli soldier. This gives hope to my family and thousands of Palestinians under siege and in prison #GazaUnderAttack #Gaza.” Farah’s tweet referred to the kidnapping that day of Israeli soldier, Oron Shaul.

Shaul was caught in a deadly ambush in Shejaiya, Gaza, by Hamas terrorists during Operation Protective Edge (OPE). Hamas celebrated the capture of Shaul and even produced a song. The IDF later determined that Shaul was dead and that his body was held by Hamas.

Israel commenced OPE in July 2014 to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.

On July 20, 2014, Farah also posted on Facebook: “Hamas' Al Qassam Brigades announce capture of Israeli soldier Shaul Aaron Military ID: 6092065.”

The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades is the military wing of Hamas.

On August 11, 2006, during the Second Lebanon war, Farah wrote on Facebook: “...the resistance does what they feel is necessary to pressure the racist Israeli government. They capture soldiers and demand an exchange. That's the only answer. Anything else just doesn't cut it.”

On June 25, 2006, Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit was captured by Hamas militants, who held Shalit captive until he was released in a prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hamas in 2011.

On August 11, 2006, Farah also wrote on Facebook: “Where there is occupation, there is resistance. It's as simple as that. Hezbollah and Hamas have a right to resist the Israeli occupation and the injustice...”

Farah continued: “...they have a right to fight the illegal occupation of their land by fighting the military and certainly by capturing Israeli Zionist soldiers.”

Calling for Intifada

On April 18, 2006, Farah shared to Facebook of a close-up of a Keffiyeh- masked militant with the comment: “Intifada.”

Since the early 2000s, the term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” has carried the connotation of violence.

On October 31, 2007, Farah posted a video on Youtube in which he provoked [00:01:02] a crowd at a “York University 2006 Protest against Israeli Apartheid.”

Farah urged [00:05:34] the protesters to “RAISE THOSE FISTS!” and alternatelyshouted[00:05:43]: “AMANDLA [Power to]!” The protesters responded [00:05:47]: “INTIFADA!”

On May 13, 2017, Farah featured in a video leading an anti-Israel protest in front of the Israli Consulate in Toronto. The protest was in support of Palestinian prisoners in Israel, many of whom had carried out terror attacks.

Farah led [0:00:13] the protesters in chanting slogans in support of intifada and the elimination of Israel.

The video also showed footage of Farah leading a protest at York University on November 16, 2006, where Farah had also chanted [00:01:29] “Raise those fists! Raise those fists! Raise those fists! Amandla [Power to] Intifada.”

On December 8, 2017, Farah posted on Facebook: “We used to say, ‘Globalize the Intifada’.Today the BDS Movement is the Intifada globalized.”

Farah’s post featured a video, with scenes of Palestinian violence during the First Intifada, which resulted in over 160 Israeli civilian casualties. Palestinian gunmen hijacked multiple buses and carried out shooting, stabbing and bombing attacks against Israels, including the bombing of the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem.

Promoting Terrorists

On March 22, 2006, Farah shared a photo on Facebook of armed and masked Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade militants and wrote: “Faces of Resistance.”

The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades is a coalition of armed Palestinian groups that has been designated as a terror organization by many countries, including the European Union, Canada and the United States.

On April 18, 2006, Farah posted to Facebook a photo of armed PFLP militants, hooded and masked and wrote: “Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).”

The PFLP — designated a terrorist organization by the United States, Canada, Israel, the European Union, the Gulf Cooperation Council and Australia — pioneered aircraft hijackings to draw attention to their movement’s demands, most notably with the capture of an Air France plane in 1976.

On April 18, 2006, Farah also shared a photo on Facebook of armed “Islamic Jihad” militants.

Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) is a terror group “whose objective is the destruction of the State of Israel and the establishment of a sovereign, Islamic Palestinian state.” PIJ is backed by Iran and has killed dozens of Israelis in suicide bombings and other attacks.

On December 9, 2017, Farah shared an image on Instagram that featured two PFLP terrorists pointing guns at a mannequin of Donald Trump, in response to the United States government’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and to relocate the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Support for Terrorists

On February 20, 2012, Farah wrote on Facebook: “Sign the petition!” The post linked to a petition in support of Khader Adnan.

Khader Adnan was a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist organization. A 2007 YouTube video showed Adnan praising and encouraging suicide bombings: "Who among you will carry the next explosive belt? Who among you will fire the next bullets? Who among you will have his body parts blown all over?” In May 2023, Adnan died in prison after refusing medical treatment during a hunger strike.

Farah also expressed support for Adnan on multiple occasions on Facebook and Twitter throughout 2012

On May 14, 2012, Farah shared to Facebook an article in support of hunger striking Palestinian prisoners in Israel.

The 2012 prisoners’ hunger strike included membersof the terror group Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and convicted terrorists Tha'er Halahleh and Bilal Diab, as well as Hamas military commander, Abdullah al-Barghouti.

Al-Barghouti was sentenced to serve 67 life sentences for his role in multiple terrorist attacks, including the Sbarro Cafe Bombing of 2001, which murdered 15 people and wounded more than 120.

Also participating in the strike was Palestinian terrorist Samer Issawi, who received a 26-year prison sentence for for manufacturing and distributing pipe bombs and shooting at Israeli police and Hebrew University students in 2002.

Khader Adnan also participated. Adnan was a senior member of PIJ and a 2007 YouTube video showed Adnan praising and encouraging suicide bombings: “Who among you will carry the next explosive belt? Who among you will fire the next bullets? Who among you will have his body parts blown all over?”

On March 7, 2017, Farah wrote on Instagram: “Prominent #Palestinian activist Basil al-Araj was killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank on Monday. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine described him as a "freedom fighter, intellectual and theorist of the uprising of Palestinian youth.”... #IsraeliApartheidWeek #BasilAlAraj #FreePalestine.”

In October 2015, during the “Knife Intifada, Basel Bessam Sidr was shot while attempting to stab Israeli police officers in Jerusalem.

On May 16, 2017, Farah tweeted, in reference to terrorist Marwan Barghouti: “Barghouthi to stop drinking water as Israel fails to respond to hunger strike demands #PalHunger #FreedomAndDignity.”

Terrorist Marwan Barghouti was sentenced to five consecutive life terms for some of his crimes, including his role in the Sbarro Cafe bombing. In 2017, he initiated the hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners known as the “Dignity Strike.” He headed the Palestinian Authority (PA) terrorist Tanzim force and founded the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, which carried out many terror attacks against Israeli civilians.

Farah expressed support on multiple occasions on Facebook for the Palestinian hunger strikers as well as for Marwan Barghouti.

Farah was listed on the Facebook event page of a “Toronto Protest for Palestinian Political Prisoners” as the “Host.” The event was slated for May 3, 2017, and was to take place outside the Israeli Consulate.

On June 29, 2020, Farah tweeted: “Boycott @TelAvivUni and the Greenberg Institute until Ahmed and other detained Palestinian bodies are freed, without stipulation, to their families and loved ones for burial. #AhmedErekat.”

[Ahmad Moustafa Erekat], who was shot by Israeli security forces after Erakat accelerated his car at a checkpoint and rammed his vehicle into Israeli soldiers.

Support for PFLP Terrorists

On April 18, 2006, Farah shared to Facebook a graphic with an image of Ahmad Sa’adat and text that read: “الحرية للمعتقلين السياسيين/ الحرية للأمين العام للجبهة الشعبية لتحرير فلسطيم [Freedom to political prisoners/ Freedom to the Secretary General of the PFLP].”

Ahmad Sa’adat is the Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). He is currently sentenced for terror activities, including his role in the 2001 assassination of Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze’evi and is in an Israeli prison. Under Sa’adat’s leadership, the PFLP perpetrated many suicide bombings against Israeli civilians during the second intifada

Farah has expressed support on Facebook for Sa’adat on multiple occasions.

On July 11, 2007, Farah shared on Facebook a photo of terrorist Leila Khaled holding an assault rifle, with a caption that read: “Beauty and bullets. What became of Leila Khaled, the world’s most famous terrorist pin-up.”

Leila Khaled participated in the hijacking of TWA Flight 840 in 1969 and El Al Flight 219 in 1970. She was a leading member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

On February 14, 2011, Farah tweeted: “George Habash was right - first the Arab regimes, then #Palestine.”

George Habash, was the 1970 mastermind behind the hijackings of four Western airliners over the United States, Europe, the Far East and the Persian Gulf. In 1972, the PFLP collaborated with Japanese Red Army terrorists to massacre 24 people at Israel's Lod International Airport (renamed Ben Gurion International Airport).

Habash, the founder of the terrorist organization the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), has been called “the godfather of Middle East terrorism.”

Farah has promoted Habash on multiple occasions on social media.
On November 10, 2014, Farah tweeted, in reference to Rasmea Odeh: “Political persecution of Palestinians is not detached from growing support for our cause and for #BDS. #Justice4Rasmea.”

Odeh was a military operative with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), an internationally designated terrorist organization. In 1969, she masterminded a bombing that killed two university students in a Jerusalem supermarket. Odeh also attempted to bomb the British consulate.

On April 2, 2015, Farah shared a post on Facebook in support of Khalida Jarrar.

Khalida Jarrar was sentenced in 2015 by an Israeli military court to 15 months in prison for calling to kidnap Israeli soldiers. A senior member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terror organization, Jarrar was arrested again by Israel in 2017 “on suspicion of involvement with terrorist activities and violent public disturbances.”

In 2019, Jarrar, with other PFLP operatives, was arrested by Israel after a 2018 bombing attack that targeted an Israeli family. Jarrar was reportedlythen head of the PFLP in the West Bank since 2016 and the cell which carried out the bombing was reportedly “planning additional attacks.” Guns and bomb-making equipment were seized during the arrest.

On July 9, 2019, Farah tweeted: “I was dismayed to learn that @trinitystpauls cancelled the Ghassan Kanafani Resistance Arts Scholarship Celebration organized by the new Toronto chapter of @PYM_USA, on the anniversary of the iconic writer’s assassination nonetheless.”

Kanafani was a leading member and spokesperson for the PFLP during theorganization’s early years. Kanafani announced the PFLP’s responsibility for the Lod Airport Massacre of May 1972 and was linked to the airport attackers.

Support for DFLP Terrorists

On May 20, 2006, Farah shared to Facebook a speech titled “Unity is Key” on Facebook by Nayef Hawatmeh, Secretary-General of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP).

The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) is known for organizing the 1974 Ma’alot Massacre, in which 28 Israeli civilians were killed, including children. DFLP terrorist Samer Issawi received a 26-year prison sentence in 2002 for manufacturing and distributing pipe bombs, and firing at Israeli civilian vehicles during the second intifada.

On March 3, 2013, Farah wrote on Facebook: “‘Do not worry if my heart stops. I am still alive now and even after death.’”

The quote, attributed to Samer Issawi, was taken from a Ma’an News article republished in the English edition of Islam Times, titled: “Issawi: Hunger strike is my last remaining stone.”

Samer Issawi is a member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) who received a 26-year prison sentence in 2002. During the second intifada, Issawi manufactured and distributed pipe bombs and fired indiscriminately on Israeli civilian vehicles. In December 2013, Issawi called for the kidnapping of Israelis, saying: “The [Palestinian] prisoners' release will be brought about by kidnapping and [prisoner] exchanges. Nothing will happen without that.”

Farah also shared multiple Facebook posts in support of Issawi in 2013.

Whitewashing Terrorism

On September 5, 2006, Farah wrote on Facebook: “Those who disagree that Hamas is a terrorist organization are most of the world, actually. Especially the third world because the poor in the world understand each other's grievances.”

Farah continued: “One can fully blame Israel when the people of the occupied territories are at war with it. The occupation to those people is a declaration of war in the first place. Occupation to them is violence and oppression.”

Farah added: “Don't expect to occupy a people and not have them go to war against you. That's what you have to understand.”

On February 14, 2007, Farah wrote on Facebook: “Hamas does not want the ‘destruction of Israel’. Hamas wants the destruction of Zionism and Apartheid.”

Hamas's founding charter calls for the murder of Jews, while the terror group’s “summer camps” have taught children how to wage war.

Farah continued in his post: “The only problem with Hamas is their ideology of establishing an Islamist state...”

On May 7, 2016, Farah tweeted: “Hamas builds a variety of things; among them, tunnels to import food and supplies, and to attack Israeli army, which is a right.”

Hamas terror tunnels are intended for mass murders and hostage-taking scenarios against Israeli civiliansand soldiers. They stretch from the Gaza Strip into Israel.

On May 8, 2016, Farah tweeted: “Palestinian militancy is a reaction to Israeli policy of ethnic cleansing.”

On the same day, Farah tweeted: “Jewish mothers would have done exactly the same if the situation was reversed. This is occupation. Yes, it creates militancy.”

Farah’s tweet was in response to a tweet that featured a photo of Fatimah Omar Mahmoud Al-Najar, a Palestinian grandmother who reportedly carried out a suicide bombing in November 2006, injuring two Israeli soldiers.

On January 8, 2017, Farah tweeted: “Western governments' and media's condemnation of legitimate and legal Palestinian attack on Israeli SOLDIERS is the reason we need #BDS.”

Farah’s tweet referred to media reports of a deadly terror attack that day, after a Palestinian plowed a truck into a group of Israeli soldiers on an educational tour in Jerusalem, killing four and injuring 17 others.

On the same day, Farah tweeted: “Israel occupies East Jerusalem, and so Israeli soldiers are legitimate targets. Pressure Israel to end its occupation.”

Farah’s tweet was in response to a tweet by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, that read: “Canada stands firmly with Israel in condemning today's horrific terrorist attack. Our thoughts are with the victims' families & the injured.”

Farah also responded to the same tweet, saying: “it is LEGAL under international law to attack military units. It's not ‘terrorism’, it's armed resistance against occupation.”

On April 6, 2018, Farah tweeted: “Acts against the Israeli army cannot be labelled ‘acts of terror’ since occupied people have a right to resist an occupying military.”

On April 13, 2018, referring to some 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza who approached Israel’s border to take part in the “March of Return,” Farah tweeted: “They have a right under international law to destroy the fence; Israel is denying their right to return to the properties seized by Israel’s unjust Absentee Property Law.”

March participants sent scores of kites bearing explosive devices across Israel’s border to burn Israeli crops and homes. Participants also attempted to breach the border fence, which caused the Israeli Defense Forces to respond with live fire. Agitators also threw Molotov cocktails and firebombs, shot firearms and threw rocks.

Whitewashing Terror Attacks

On September 23, 2015, Farah tweeted: “Video: Palestinian woman shot, left to bleed by Israeli soldiers.” Farah’s tweet linked to a video of Hadil Al Hashlamoun, who was shot after she reportedly attempted to stab Israeli soldiers at a security checkpoint.

In October 2015, there was an upsurge in violence across Israel incited by Palestinian political and religious leaders. The wave of stabbings, known as the “Knife Intifada,” was characterized by young Palestinians throughout the country stabbing and attempting to stab Israeli civilians.

On October 4, 2015, Farah tweeted: ‘Video shows Palestinian youth Fadi Alloun was running from Israeli mob when shot deadhttp://bit.ly/1QSrLDc.”

Fadi Aloon was shot by Israeli security forces after he stabbed a 15-year-old Israeli boy. Several hours before the attack, Aloon posted “Either martyrdom or victory” on his Facebook page.

On October 12, 2015, Farah tweeted: “Zionist settler terrorist thugs shoot Palestinian boy and urge him to die.” Farah’s tweet linked to a Facebook video of Ahmed Manasra lying on the ground, in the wake of a terror act he committed.

Ahmed Manasra (sometimes spelled Mansara) and his 15-year-old cousin Hassan went on a stabbing spree in Jerusalem on October 12, 2015, during the Knife Intifada. They critically wounded a 13-year-old boy and moderately wounded a 25-year-old man. The spree ended when police shot Hassan and a passing motorist hit Ahmed. Ahmed was taken to an Israeli hospital. He admitted to investigators: “I went there to stab Jews.” He was later tried and convicted on two counts of attempted murder.

Promoting an Anti-Semitic Conspiracy Theory

On June 4, 2020, Farah tweeted: “Minnesota cops 'trained by Israeli forces in restraint techniques'. Thousands more have been trained by Israeli forces who have come to the US to host similar events to the one held in Minneapolis.”

Farah’s tweet linked to an article that claimed that police officers “from the US police force responsible for the killing of George Floyd received training in anti-terror tactics from Israeli law-enforcement officers”

The article continued claiming that American police “learned the violent techniques used by Israeli forces as they terrorise the occupied Palestinian territories under the guise of security operations.”

The article went on to insinuate that the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer who knelt on his neck, was learned from Israeli security forces.

The article concluded by implying that American Jewish organizations were complicit due to having “paid for police chiefs, assistant chiefs and captains to train in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT).”

The same allegations are made by the Deadly Exchange campaign, launched by Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP).

In 2017, JVP launched the “Deadly Exchange (DX)” campaign, which accused American Jewish organizations of promoting human rights abuses. JVP also released a video that blamed [00:04:04] U.S.-based Jewish organizations for violence that occurs against Black and Brown communities, immigrants and activists in the U.S.

On June 28, 2020, Farah tweeted: “We went out in Toronto to say no to the illegal Israeli annexation. No to apartheid. Now is the time for meaningful action. Now is the time for sanctions. #StopAnnexation.”

The tweet featured a photo of Farah speaking through a microphone at an “Toronto Rally Against Israeli Annexation” held on June 27, 2020, outside Consulate General of Israel, Toronto.

Farah added to the Twitter thread: “We’re here because we’re inspired by indigenous struggles, we’re inspired by #BlackLivesMatter✊🏿, we’re deeply affected when our siblings are murdered in cold blood by police and military occupation forces.”

Opposing the IHRA’s Definition of Anti-Semitism

Farah’s tweet included a tweet by the Mayor of Brampton, Patrick Brown, that read: “Today, as part of our pledge to combatting bigotry & hatred, @CityBrampton adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance @ihrachair definition of antisemitism. Thank you to Rabbi Shekel at Har Tikvah in #Brampton & @CIJAinfo for bringing this important motion forward.”

The IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism was adopted by the U.S. State Department in 2016. Twenty-eight European countries, as well as Canada, Australia, Israel and Argentina, have also adopted the definition.

On July 20, 2020, Farah tweeted: “The IHRA definition of antisemitism, which equates criticism of Israel to antisemitism, will soon go to third reading at the Ontario Legislature. Write a letter to your MPP with one click. #NoIHRA.”

On February 27, 2020, Farah tweeted: “The Ontario legislature just made it antisemitic to criticize Israel’s atrocious treatment of Palestinians. As Palestinian Canadians we have a right to speak freely about our dispossession, to shed light on Israel’s occupation and illegal settlements, and to demand justice!”

Farrah's tweet included a tweet by Independent Jewish Voices that read: “#Bill168 to adopt the Orwelllian IHRA redefinition of antisemitism was just adopted unanimously by the #Ontario legislature at 2nd reading We commend MPPs for wanting to fight antisemitism, but the IHRA is the wrong way to go about it. #noIHRA.”

On August 26, 2014, the day Israel agreed to a comprehensive Egyptian-brokered ceasefire with Hamas after OPE, Farah tweeted: “This is our time to intensify #BDS campaign at #YorkU.”

On December 30, 2013, Farah tweeted: “How about a New Year #BDS Resolution? @yorkuniversity #yorku #NewYearResolution.”

On November 15, 2012, Farah tweeted: “We are pleased to announce that the Graduate Students' Association at York University has voted to pass #BDS. #Yorku #Palestine.”

On October 31, 2007, Farah published to YouTubea video in which he spoke at a November 6, 2006 “York University 2006 Protest against Israeli Apartheid” event, where he stated [00:05:12]: “We are here today to reiterate our support for a boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign.”

SAIA YU Activism

On September 2, 2019, Farah tweeted: “Donate to @SaiaYork to help us continue being a leading voice for Palestine and BDS on Canadian campuses. #YorkU.”

On February 2, 2017, Farah tweeted: “Giving an overview of @SaiaYork at its Winter Meet&Greet at #YorkU #FreePalestine #BDS.” The tweet featured photos of Farah standing in front of a mock apartheid wall, speaking to an audience.

On February 15, 2015, Farah tweeted: “If the opposition uses Israeli soldiers and other Zionist racists to campaign for them, @SaiaYork will defend the students' union at #YorkU.”

On January 24, 2012, Farah tweeted: “Follow @SaiaYork - Students Against Israeli Apartheid at York University in #Toronto!”
Banned from York University

In 2013, Farah was reportedly banned from YU property for violating university policy, and SAIA YU’s student club status was revoked for repeatedly disrupting academic activities on campus.

Gary Brewer, YU’s “vp finance and administration” reportedly said in a letter to Farah that he “was banned from campus because of his participation in two demonstrations — the first on November 29, 2012, and the other on March 27, 2013, — where he was observed by York security using an amplification device to speak to a gathering of students and others.”

On May 9, 2013, SAIA YU shared a video on Youtube of Farah standing in front of a banner that read: “ZIONISM IS RACISM.” In response to YU’s decision to ban Farah, Farah said [00:00:08]: “...you can’t threaten to remove me and expect silence.”

On February 5, 2015, Farah resumed his SAIA YU activism.

Promoting Anti-Israel Activists

On October 11, 2018, Farah tweeted: “The level of awareness raised by this prof about BDS is a #BDSwin and a massive fail for your vile extremist organization.”

Farah’s tweet was in response to a B’nai Brith Canada tweet applauding the University of Michigan's decision to discipline University of Michigan (UMich) professor, John Cheney-Lippold.

Cheney-Lippold sparked major controversy in September 2018, when he reneged on his offerto write a recommendation letter for a student to study abroad in Israel.

In an October 3, 2018 letter, the University of Michigan disciplined Cheney-Lippold by issuing a number of sanctions, including ineligibility “for a salary increase for the 2018-2019 academic year.” Further, Cheney-Lippold’s sabbatical eligibility and credits were frozen for two years “until the Fall 2020 semester.”

On October 29, 2014, Farah tweeted: “It was a truly eye-opening event on racism and incitement in Israel.” Farah’s tweet linked to an Instagram photo posted by SAIA York that featured David Sheen giving a speech at YU.

David Sheen is an anti-Israel activist and filmmaker who works to portray Israel as an extremist racist state. To this end, Sheen has been accused of purposefully mistranslating Hebrew articles and other media to make Israelis appear racist.

On October 28, 2014, Farah tweeted: “I learned from @davidsheen's presentation that racism in Israel is much worse than I thought. Truly disturbing. #YorkU #YUDivest #BDS.”

SAIA YU - Harassing Jewish Students

On February 11, 2009, SAIA YU activists and other anti-Israel protesters reportedly verbally assaulted Jewish students at YU, chanting, “Die, b**ch, go back to Israel,” and "Die, Jew, get the hell off campus.”

Jewish students were forced to seek protection in the Hillel office. Eventually, police were called [00:02:01] to escort Jewish students safely past the protesters.

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
