Deen Haleem

Overview

Deen Haleem [Deen Nimer Haleem II] is a law student who led an anti-Israel protest during Israel’s war against Hamas terrorists in November 2023. The rally was on the Columbia University (Columbia) campus in New York, New York.

The protest took place after Hamas terror atrocities and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023. The terror attacks left over 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.”

In December 2023, Haleem was a leader of Columbia Law Students for Palestine (CLSP).

As of November 2023, Haleem was a member of Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD), a coalition of “over 80 student groups working toward the goal of collective liberation.” CUAD is part of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

CUAD’s demands include “a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, divestment from Israel…and to reinstate” the campus chapters of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) after the university suspended them. CUAD began in 2016 but was revived in late 2023.

As of February 2024, Haleem was listed in the Columbia online directory as a student at Columbia Law School (Columbia Law). Haleem’s LinkedIn profile said he was slated to graduate in 2024.

Also as of February 2024, Haleem’s LinkedIn said he had been a “clinic student/TA [teaching assistant]” for the “Criminal Defense Clinic” experiential seminar at Columbia Law since January 2023. He had also been volunteer parole advocate at the Parole Advocacy Project since October 2021.

As of January 2024, Haleem was listed online as having been a staff editor for the Columbia Human Rights Law Review (HRLR) journal during the 2022-2023 academic year.

As of March 2024, Haleem was listed online as having graduated from Davidson College (Davidson) in 2021, where he had studied in the Arab Studies Department. Haleem’s LinkedIn said he had also studied PPE [politics, philosophy and economics] and history at Davidson, which is located in Davidson, North Carolina.
