In Summer 2022, Lux Magazine published a feature article about Desai.

The article said: "'Of course Marxism has given me an understanding of the world,' she told me. 'I’ve never shied away from being left. But when you’re trying to build a union in the belly of the beast, and you’re working with people from all across the globe, who have all sorts of experiences, and their own historical biases, I have really learned to put my politics out there without using political vocabulary.'"

On May 2, 2024, during Israel's war against Hamas, Labor for Palestine reported that Desai spoke at an anti-Israel rally, saying: "...We will not put down our fists, we will not continue life as usual because this genocide is not normal.”

On October 7, 2023, Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis, kidnapped hundreds and wounded thousands. War crimes included mass rape and torture. Many Palestinian civilians participated in and supported the attacks, and Gazans working in the targeted Israeli communities gave intelligence to Hamas on where to strike.

On January 12, 2024, while Desai was the executive director of NYTW, the group posted on X: "We must act for an immediate ceasefire of the bombardment of Gaza...and a rebuilding of Gaza that is free of [Israeli] occupation."

On April 24, 2024, during Israel's war against Hamas, Desai was featured as a speaker at an anti-Israel event co-organized by PYM and The People's Forum. In her speech, Desai praised a large union for calling for a ceasefire in the war.

Desai then said: "The failures we've seen in the labor movement are not only a reflection of, you know, the Zionist forces historically...but also more generally we are a backward labor movement. You know, for years in our country, the labor movement has been a gatekeeper for capital and those in power have really been the apologists for the political class that, you know, gives capital its free hand across our society and across our globe."

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture. Zionism is a core part of the identity of most Jews.

Later in her speech, Desai spoke about Israel and called for "an end to the apartheid."

On November 24, 2025, while Desai was the executive director of NYTWA, the group posted on X, referring to Mamdani: "...'To my brother, our Mayor-elect, drivers know too well how to navigate through the darkness of a tunnel. Under your leadership, we are ready to drive into the light.' - our ED, Bhairavi Desai."

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by pro-terror activist Omar Barghouti in 2005 to turn “Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.” Barghouti has also called for Israel's destruction and the BDS movement demands would result in that same goal.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been infiltrating university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments propose resolutions to boycott or divestment from Israel or Israeli-affiliated entities. BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents and pro-terror activism on campus.
