One of the speakers at the rally called Israel a "genocidal, racist, imperialist force" and marchers at the rally held a large banner made by one of the organizers that said: "BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

Anti-Israel activists use the phrase “By any means necessary” as one of multiple euphemisms for terrorist violence, of which another is “resistance.”

The event was in support of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. The outcome of the movement's goals would result in Israel's destruction. Within hours of the October 7, 2023, terror attacks, the BDS movement renewed its call for an anti-Israel boycott.
