During the attempted arrests, members of the cell as well as other Palestinian gunmen opened fire on the soldiers.
Marx-Arpadi retweeted a November 26, 2022 tweet that said: “Join us Tuesday for a Community Town Hall to #FreeTheHLF5 featuring @NerdeenKiswani lawyer + chair of

The HLF5 were five individuals associated with the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF) indicted for funneling funds to Hamas in the guise of humanitarian aid. The men were were all convicted and sentenced in 2009 to federal prison terms ranging from 15 to 65 years.
The HLF5 event featured WOL founder Nerdeen Kiswani and anti-Israel activist Amith Gupta.

Hatred of Israel
Marx-Arpadi signed an October 8, 2022 CUNY JLSA statement titled: “Open Letter to the CUNY Community Re: CUNY Chancellor Adoption of the IHRA Definition of Anstisemitism [sic].”The statement said: “In our organizing together as JLSA and SJP over the years, we have repeatedly rejected the idea that zionism–the settler-colonial project of establishing the state of Israel–furthers the self-determination of the Jewish people. We understand zionism, as a political ideology, to be a form of settler-colonialism and an inherently racist endeavor.”
Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.
The CUNY JLSA statement continued: “Zionism is premised on the dispossession of Palestinians from their land, and on the creation of an ethnostate that, to maintain its Jewish identity, denies rights to Palestinians that are afforded to Jews and views Palestinians as a ‘demographic threat.’ As aspiring social justice civil rights, criminal defense, housing, immigration attorneys, we cannot support an ideology that requires genocide to sustain itself.”
Marx-Arpadi retweeted a May 4, 2022 tweet that said: “NO BRIDGES WITH AN APARTHEID STATE! CUNY4Palestine’s Statement in Regards to CUNY Management’s April 2022 Trip to Israel Please read and share widely!...”
The tweet included a link to a statement written by CUNY4Palestine that said [p. 1]: “Your recent ‘Scholars as Bridge Builders’ trip to Israel betrays your commitment to CUNY’s mission and values. In the guise of dialogue and tolerance, this trip whitewashes Israel’s colonial domination of Palestinians, including their universities.”
Marx-Arpadi retweeted an April 28, 2022 tweet that said: “A large number of top CUNY administrators including numerous college presidents are headed to Israel this week for a bridge-building campaign. This is egregious and absolutely out of line with our values. ALL OUT TO PROTEST THIS TOMORROW AT 5:30 PM

@Cuny4P#zionismoutofCUNY.”The tweet included a flyer for an April 29, 2022 protest hosted by WOL. The flyer said: “DEMAND AN END TO CUNY’S COMPLICITY IN THE GENOCIDE OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE! DEMAND AN END TO CUNY’S ENDORSMENT OF ZIONISM!”
Marx-Arpadi retweeted an April 4, 2022 tweet that said: “JLSA + many other student orgs are hosting Professor @deanspade for a screening of Pinkwashing Exposed, followed by a Q&A….” Dean Spade is an anti-Israel professor.
“Pinkwashing” is a claim that Israel advocates manipulate the LGBTQ community in order to garner support for Israel.
The teach-in was moderated by anti-Israel professors Sofya Aptekar and Corinna Mullin. Another speaker for the event was pro-terror activist Lamis Deek.
On May 5, 2021, Marx-Arpadi co-authored [p. 18] a letter in defense of the SJP chapter at Middlebury conducting a campaign accusing Israel of “apartheid.” She wrote the letter as a “Legal Intern” at Palestine Legal. The other co-author was Radhika Sanaith, the senior staff attorney at Palestine Legal.
Opposing the IHRA Definition of Anti-Semitism
On April 11, 2021, The CUNY University Student Senate (USS) posted a Zoom meeting on Facebook where they debated adopting two different definitions of anti-Semitism.Marx-Arpadi commented [02:11:24] during the live stream: “Hi, president of the Jewish Law Student Association, co-author of definition…”
The JLSA definition of anti-Semitism was presented to the CUNY USS as part of a larger resolution submitted by CUNY JLSA and CUNY Law SJP. The resolution claimed [p. 3]: “antisemitism is not an exceptional form of bigotry.”
The resolution also stated [p. 3]: “THEREFORE BE IT / RESOLVED: That the University Student Senate shall not adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism. / RESOLVED: The University Students Senate urges all CUNY schools clubs, and organizations to reject and reverse the adoption of IHRA definition and replace it with the definition of antisemitism articulated herein;”
The IHRA also highlights another form of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.”
Marx-Arpadi commented [01:20:00]: “‘The state of israel is a racist endeavor’ is antisemitic per IHRA.”
Also on April 11, 2021, Marx-Arpadi added a temporary profile picture that said: “#IHRA OUT OF CUNY.”
On April 15, 2021, Marx-Arpadi was cited in a Forward article as the CUNY JLSA president. The article was titled: “‘It was a disaster’: Inside a fierce battle over antisemitism at CUNY.”
The article said: “Marx-Arpadi and other Jewish law students drafted a [resolution] that defined antisemitism as discrimination against Jews ‘as individuals, groups, or as a collective — because they are Jews,’ while defending opposition to Zionism..”
SJP
SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.
The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.
SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.
SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.
Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
CAIR
CAIR describes itself as a “grassroots civil rights and advocacy group” and “America's largest Muslim civil liberties organization, with regional offices nationwide.” Its official mission is “enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.”
CAIR reportedly has “significant ties” to the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as Hamas. A number of former CAIR employees have been convicted on fraud and terrorism-related charges that resulted monetary fines, jail terms and, sometimes, deportation.
CAIR was founded in 1994 and opened its first office in Washington, DC, with the help of a $5,000 donation from the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF), a charity founded by Mousa Abu Marzook.
Marzook, who was listed as a "Specially Designated Terrorist" by the U.S. Treasury Department in 1995, is reportedly a senior member of Hamas.
In May 2007, CAIR was listed as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in a U.S.-filed action against the HLF for providing funds to Hamas.
CAIR was also listed as a terrorist entity by the United Arab Emirates, in 2014.
BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
