Abdelnasser Rashid
Abdelnasser Rashid is a politician who justified Hamas terrorism, spread hatred of Israel and engaged in anti-Israel activism during Israel's war against Hamas in late 2023 and 2024.
Rashid is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Rashid's activism occurred during Israel’s war against Hamas, called “Swords of Iron.” Israel launched the war after a series of Hamas terror attacks and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023.
The terror attacks left approximately 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded.
In late 2023 , Rashid was active with the anti-Israel groups Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and American Muslims for Palestine (AMP).
As of February 2025, Rashid was listed on the Illinois General Assembly website as the representative for the 21st District. In January 2025, Rashid posted on Instagram that he had been sworn in for his second term.
Also as of February 2025, Rashid's LinkedIn profile said he graduated from the University of Chicago (UChicago) Booth School of Business with a master's degree in business administration in 2022.
As of the same date, the Illinois General Assembly website said Rashid lived in Bridgeview, Illinois.
On October 8, 2023, one day after Hamas terrorists murdered approximately 1200 Israelis, Rashid shared on Instagram a letter he and 17 other congressmen co-signed.
The letter was titled: "A Call for De-Escalation and Peace." Rashid copied the content of the letter to his post.
Rashid's post read: "Many of us woke up to news yesterday about the most recent violence in Israel and Palestine. Hundreds of Israelis and Palestinians have been killed, and thousands injured..."
Rashid's post also read: "We will not be able to achieve peace when millions of Palestinians are denied basic human rights. We urge the United States and the international community to work toward long-term solutions that end the inequality that is at the root cause of the violence."
On Saturday, October 7, 2023, approximately 2,900 heavily armed Hamas terrorists breached Israel’s border with Gaza. They executed numerous war crimes on civilians, including mass murder, beheadings of children, rape of men and women, torture, kidnappings and mutilation.
Hamas broadcast videos of their butchery on social media, often to victims’ accounts for families to see. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.” As of November 10, 2023, approximately 1,200 Israelis, the vast majority of them civilians, were murdered during the attacks. Hamas kidnapped 242 Israelis, including at least 30 children. At least 3,500 people were wounded, many severely.
A terrorist detained by Israel admitted he raped an Israeli woman when he broke into a kibbutz house during the October 7, 2023 attack. In March 2024, a former hostage of Hamas publicly stated she was sexually abused and tortured while in captivity.
For more information on the October 7, 2023 terror attacks, see the Canary Mission page on Hamas.
On July 24, 2024, Rashid posted on Instagram, referring to Israel's war against Hamas terrorists: "...my heart is heavy with the weight of the ongoing genocide in Palestine...This isn’t just a conflict — it’s a systematic erasure of a people, their culture, and their hopes..."
On May 13, 2024, Rashid gave an interview for the Chicago magazine. The article was titled: "The War At Home."
During the interview, Rashid accused Israel of maintaining a "system of apartheid."
On January 31, 2024, Rashid posted on Instagram: "Today, the Chicago City Council passed a historic resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza..."
Rashid's post also read: "'I extend my gratitude to Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago City Council for standing up for what’s right,' said Rep. Rashid. 'Israel’s indiscriminate bombing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza has been supported financially and diplomatically by the United States..."
On October 10, 2023, the Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), an anti-Israel organization, announced Rashid as one of the featured speakers for its annual banquet on October 29, 2023.
CAIR reportedly has “significant ties” to the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and Hamas. A number of former CAIR employees have been convicted on fraud and terrorism-related charges that resulted monetary fines, jail terms and, sometimes, deportation. In May 2007, CAIR was listed as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in a U.S.-filed action against the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF) for providing funds to Hamas. CAIR was also listed as a terrorist entity by the United Arab Emirates, in 2014.
On November 18, 2023, American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), another anti-Israel organization, announced Rashid as one of the featured speakers[slide 2] for its "16th Annual Convention for Palestine in the US." Among the anti-Israel agitators slated to speak were Hatem Bazian, Fatima Mohammed and Huwaida Arraf.
