Rebecca Zapien

Rebecca Zapien is a professor who whitewashed Hamas terrorist war crimes, trivialized the Holocaust and spread hatred of Israel in a November 2023 class.

The incident occurred following a series of Hamas terror attacks and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023. The terror attacks left over 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded.

Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron,” which was going on at the time of Zapien’s class.

Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., Canada, European Union, Israel and other countries. Founded in 1987, it has killed thousands of Israeli civilians through mass shootings and suicide bombings. Hamas has also kidnapped children, families and the elderly and held them hostage in Gaza. It has desecrated [slide 7] dead bodies and launched numerous rocket attacks against Israeli civilians.

As of November 16, 2023, Zapien, who also goes by Rebecca Zapien, was listed online as the “Community Liaison, Teaching, Learning & Sociocultural Studies,” at Arizona’s College of Education.

Zapien was also listed as a supervisor for a course offered by Arizona’s Department of Teaching, Learning and Sociocultural Studies, in 2020.

As of November 15, 2023, Zapien was listed online as being on the 2023 board of directors at Tucson Children’s Project.

The University of Arizona is located in Tucson, Arizona.

In November 2023, Zapien reportedly devoted a session of the education course: “Cultural Pluralism for Young Children,” to the Israel-Hamas war. She co-taught the class with anti-Israel professor Becka Lopez at the University of Arizona (Arizona).

During the class, parts of which were recorded on audio, Zapien and Lopez whitewashed Hamas war crimes against Israeli civilians, calling [00:01:13] Hamas a “resistance group” that is “choosing to resist through violence.”

Anti-Israel activists use the term “resistance” to refer to violence and terror perpetrated against Israeli civilians and their allies. It is used to glorify and encourage anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence. Anti-Israel activists chant slogans such as: “Resistance by any means necessary!” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” in response to terror attacks.

Zapien and Lopez also denied [00:00:25] officially confirmed reports of Hamas beheading babies during the October 7, 2023 massacre of Israeli Jews.

In their lecture, Zapien and Lopez also trivialized [00:00:20] the Holocaust and accused [00:00:33] Israel of “genocide” in Gaza.

At the end of the class, Zapien and Lopez called [00:00:47] on their students to participate in anti-Israel activism in the U.S. and to support [00:00:28] the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Following the incident, Zapien and Lopez were reportedly “suspended with pay for the rest of the semester,” while the university opened an investigation.
