Pasha Khan

Pasha Khan [Pasha Mohamad Khan] showed support for the pro-Hamas protest encampment at UofT in May 2024.

McGill University (McGill) associate professor and UofT alumnus Pasha Khan showed support for the encampment by signing on to a statement put out by UofT community members in May 2024 [row 61, third from left]. The May 20, 2024 statement was part of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

The statement backed all the encampment’s demands, including divesting from the alleged “apartheid policies of the state of Israel and its ongoing genocide in Gaza.”

To show support, Kahn submitted a “support selfie,” where text beside his face said: “DISCLOSE. DIVEST. CUT TIES.”

As of July 2024, Khan’s X bio read: “...🍉 / It’s a genocide.”

The watermelon has been appropriated by anti-Israel activists as a symbol of Palestinian "resistance" to "Israeli occupation," as it shares the Pan-Arab colors. It has been depicted in art, used on flags at protests and posted online. It gained popularity following the Hamas terror attacks of October 7, 2023.

UofT is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
