Karthik Ganapathy
Karthik Ganapathy expressed support for Hamas terrorism, called for intifada and spread anti-Semitism. He also expressed hatred of Zionism and the police following Hamas's murder of approximately 1,200 Israelis on October 7, 2023.
As of December 2024, Karthik Ganapathy was listed as a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego). UC San Diego is located in San Diego, California.
Karthik Ganapathy received a PhD in mathematics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (U-M Ann Arbor) in August 2024. U-M Ann Arbor is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Karthik Ganapathy was identified on one website as Karthik Ganapathy Venkitachalam.
As of December 19, 2024, a screenshot of Ganapathy support for the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel was posted on a U-M Ann Arbor Graduate Employees union Discord chat forum (GEO3550@UofM).
On October 7, 2023, Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis, kidnapped hundreds and wounded thousands. War crimes included mass rape and torture. Many Palestinian civilians participated in and supported the attacks, and Gazans working in the targeted Israeli communities gave intelligence to Hamas on where to strike.

Ganapthy's comment said: "...I do feel like now is precisely the time we should be doing more to amplify the Palestinian cause / we are possibly seeing a breakthrough against the zionist regime (much bigger than the intifada even) -- things that I personally did not even think was possible just a year or so ago / here is norman finkelstein's post which I 100% agree with / there are people who have only seen life within the open-air prison that is Gaza who got out for the first time in their lives (even if just for a few hours before being killed)."
Ganapthy's comment included another screenshot of an October 7, 2023 post from anti-Israel activist Norman Finkelstein that said: "...For the past 20 years the people of Gaza, half of whom are children, have been immured in a concentration camp. Today they breached the camp’s walls...moral consistency commands that we honor the heroic resistance in Gaza...it warms every fiber of my soul the scenes of Gaza’s smiling children as their arrogant Jewish supremacist oppressors have, finally, been humbled...Glory, glory, hallelujah. The souls of Gaza go marching on!"
On March 29, 2024, Ganapathy was featured in a post on X that said: "University of Michigan - graduate student Karthik Ganapathy (Dept. of Mathematics) shockingly posts a 'LONG LIVE THE INTIFADA' poster on his office door. / Why is this call for violence against Jews allowed on campus?"
The term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” carries the connotation of violence. Palestinian intifadas waged against Israel have been marked since 1987 by hundreds of hijackings, shootings, stabbings, bombings and suicide missions.
Included in the post was a photo of Ganapathy's office door showing that poster with those words superimposed on a photograph of a woman's head and face wrapped in a keffiyeh, and another poster with an illustration of a man wearing a keffiyeh in front of a Palestinian flag.
The keffiyeh is a Palestinian headdress traditionally worn by men, which has become a symbol of Palestinian nationalism.
As of December 19, 2024, a screenshot was posted on Ganapthy's website that said: "There is only one solution." This phrase is the first half of the chant commonly used by pro-Hamas activists which concludes: "Intifada revolution."
As of December 19, 2024, a screenshot of Ganapathy's October 7, 2023 X post was featured on a website that said: "amazing how jewish people *always* find a way to make any Palestinian breakthrough against the ongoing jewish supremacist regime about themselves & their feelings, rather than unequivocally supporting what we know can only be a violent resistance against the apartheid state."
Anti-Israel activists use the term “resistance” to refer to violence and terror perpetrated against Israeli civilians and their allies. It is used to glorify and encourage anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence. Anti-Israel activists chant slogans such as: “Resistance by any means necessary!” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!” in response to terror attacks.
As of December 19, 2024, a screenshot of Ganapathy's comments was posted on a U-M Ann Arbor Graduate Employees union Discord forum (GEO3550@UofM).
Ganapathy's first comment said: "Frankly annoyed that our union hasn't put out a statement in support of Palestinian and arab students here who even just last week had to endure Zionists during the apartheid wall protest."
Ganapathy's second comment said: "and the status quo for unions otherwise is using dues money to support the zionist regime."
On August 28, 2024, an account under the username "SaveGEO" posted on X a screenshot of a video posted by another user that said: "BREAKING: Arrests made at the University of Michigan after police mobilized to stop a pro-Palestine demonstration...on campus."
The X post included a comment by Ganapathy on the video that said: "Cops should go kill themselves."
