Yusef Brooks
Overview
Yusef Brooks has promoted violence and expressed support for anti-Israel agitators. He also spread hatred of Israel and glorified violent revolutionaries. Brooks was the vice-president of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at Santa Monica College (SMC) in 2019, and an activist with SJP SMC in 2018.Brooks has promoted the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Promoting Violence
On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a black man, was arrested and killed by a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Following Floyd’s death, demonstrations and protests were held in over 400 American cities, as well as internationally. Many of the demonstrations devolved into riots, resulting in injury and deaths of civilians and police officers, as well as widespread destruction and looting of property.
On June 3, 2020, Brooks featured in an SJP SMC filmed discussion, condemning [00:11:46] the United States as an imminently fascist Police State “in its totality.”
Brooks stated [00:43:55] that the purpose of the riots was to help a revolt grow and spread, including [00:44:32] the need to spread the riots to Canada. Brooks clarified that the aim [00:44:43] of the riots was to liberate [00:44:52] the prisons and the migrant detention centers and culminate in the destruction [00:05:39] of U.S. institutions.
Brooks gave [00:12:23]tips and shared tactics with SJP SMC attendees and organizers for how to promote [00:43:52] "the uprising" against "global white supremacy and capitalism."
Brooks instructed listeners not to coordinate, work with or speak to the police, stating [00:35:30] “this an anti-Police movement and we don't want to be working with them.”Brooks also encouraged [00:12:23] agitators to avoid being misdirected “by agitators, by spies, by undercover cops and by white supremacists who are in disguise.”
When one organizer added [00:13:01] “cop-huggers” to the list of adversaries, Brooks replied, “of course.”
Support for Anti-Israel Agitators
On March 10, 2019, Brooks shared a meme to Facebook depicting an enraged man, labeled “Ilhan Omar,” using a folding chair to attack mascots labeled “Obama Presidency.” and “Israeli Apartheid Regime.”Ilhan Omar was elected to the U.S. Congress in 2018. In February 2019, top Congressional leaders denounced Omar for tweeting anti-Semitic remarks.
On March 9, 2019, Brooks shared a meme to Facebook titled “Ilhan Omar everyday for the foreseeable future” and depicted an individual stating: “Why are you booing me? I’m Right.”
Brooks appeared in an August 8, 2019 SJP SMC Instagram post with anti-Israel agitator Janna Jihad Ayyad that said: “Our board got the opportunity to meet one of the brave resilient Palestinian children and the youngest journalist in the world Janna Jihad. @janna.jihad your message and movement are so inspiring! ❤️🇵🇸✊ #SJP#Palestine #palestine🇵🇸.”
Ayyad, is a “journalist” who spoke at a Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) event as part of an international speaking tour. PYM has expressed support for terrorists, promoted incitement to violence and advocated for the dissolution of the State of Israel.
Ayyad is also from the Tamimi family stronghold of Nabi Saleh, and is a relative of Palestinian propagandist Bassem Tamimi. Tamimi is notorious for exploiting young children as political props by manufacturing confrontations with Israeli soldiers who respond to the riots that Tamimi organizes. Ayyad has participated in these confrontations.
On December 1, 2018, Brooks shared to Facebook a post linking to a Huffpost opinion piece by anti-Israel activist Yousef Munayyer titled: “CNN Fired Marc Lamont Hill For Saying Palestinians Deserve Equal Rights.”
During the meeting, Hill reportedly whitewashed Palestinian violence and accused Israel of “state violence and ethnic cleansing.” He also called for a “free Palestine from the river to the sea.”
In September 2018, during a U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) conference, Hill insinuated [00:31:01] that Israel poisons Palestinian water and seemingly approved [00:30:34] of violence against Israelis.
On August 15, 2018, Brooks shared a post on Facebook that said: “The Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu accused Jeremy Corbyn of laying a wreath on the graves of terrorists and comparing Israel to the Nazis, but the British leader of the opposition used straightforward arguments back and reminded the world that it's Netanyahu himself the one who has been recently involved in massacres.”
Approximately 50 members of Jeremy Corbyn’s party were quietly suspended from the party due to their anti-Semitic comments exposed on social media.
In 2012 Corbyn invited Sheikh Raed Salah, leader of the extreme wing of the Islamic Movement in Israel, to Parliament and described Salah as "a very honored citizen."
Salah's record included endorsingthe conspiracy theory that was started by Syria’s government-owned newspaper, Al Thawra, about Jews being warned not to come to work at the Twin Towers on September 11. In a 2007 sermon, Salah also repeated the medieval European blood libel that Jews use the blood of gentile children to make matzah, for Passover.
In another incident, Corbyn stated he looked forward to hosting "our friends from Hezbollah" at an event at Parliament, and described that group and Hamas as being “dedicated toward bringing long-term peace in the entire region.”
Although he eventually expressed regret for those statements — during an investigation on anti-Semitism in his party in July of 2016 — Corbyn went on to back-handedly compare Israel’s government to ISIS.
In October 2020, Corbyn was suspended from the Labour Party after he downplayed a report that found the party “did not do enough to prevent anti-Semitism and, at worst, could be seen to accept it".
Hatred of Israel
On June 25, 2020, Brooks shared to Facebook a series of misleading maps of Israel, as well as maps of U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed Middle East Peace plan that included some territorial exchange, with the caption “Endless theft.”.Brooks commented: “Colonialism.”
The maps Brooks shared claim that lands once controlled by Britain, Egypt and Jordan as autonomous “Palestinian land,” were purportedly stolen by Israel.
In February 2016, publisher McGraw-Hill Education recalled copies of a college-level textbook that contained the fraudulent maps. In October 2015, the United States cable news network MSNBC apologized for airing a similar series of maps and retracted them.
On March 11, 2020, Brooks shared to Facebook a post, suggesting thatIsrael had acquired via theft all the land then in its possession.
On December 14, 2019, Brooks responded to a Facebook comment that asked "“how long has the Palestinian holocaust been going now?” by commenting: “over 70 yrs of occupation.”
On November 24, 2019, Brooks shared to his Facebook page an illustration of the map of Israel, with text reading: “gonna tell me kids this is Palestine.”
Brooks added: “It is lmaooo.”
Glorifying Violent Revolutionaries
Mumia Abu Jamal was convicted of murder and sentenced to death in 1982 for the 1981 murder of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner. In 2011, his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment without parole.
On July 2, 2020, Brooks shared a photo glorifying Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael), with the caption: “we pay homage and give eternal praise for his work and most importantly his example.”
Stokely Carmichael (Kwame Ture) was a black militant leader known for coining the phrase: “The only good Zionist is a dead Zionist.” Carmichael spread [p. 27] various anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Jewish control of government and media on university campuses and elsewhere.
On June 25, 2020, Brooks shared an image to Facebook of a black panther tearing up and eating a bloody U.S. flag.
The Black Panther Party (BPP) was a revolutionary Marxist political organization founded by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton in 1966. BPP advocated the use of violence and guerilla tactics to overthrow the U.S. government. BPP members were involved in many fatal firefights with police; in 1967, Newton allegedly killed police officer John Frey.
Also on June 25, 2020, Brooks shared a photo of Hilda Reyes, wearing a bandolier of assault riflerounds, and captioned:“Hilda Reyes, former member of the East L.A. chapter of the Brown Berets and co-founder of Las Adelitas de Aztlán, a short-lived Chicana feminist group.”
The Brown Berets were a militant Chicano rights group modeled on the Black Panthers, who were active in the 1960s and 1970s.
Marxist revolutionary Thomas Sankara became president of Burkina Faso in 1983, after a coup d’etat. Amnesty International condemned Sankara’s government for human rights violations, including extrajudicial executions and arbitrary incarceration of political opponents.
On May 20, 2020, Brooks shared a post to Facebook wishing “Happy Birthday” to Marxist revolutionary and North Vietnam Chairman Ho Chi Minh.
Ho Chi Minh carried out mass killings of civilians both during and after the Vietnam war. He also carried out policies of human mutilations, summary executions and burying people alive.
During the five decades of his rule in Cuba, Fidel Castro built a repressive system which included surveillance, arbitrary detention and torture of political dissidents.
On November 26, 2019, Brooks shared an article to Facebook titled: “We Honor Fidel Castro Without the Slightest Hesitation.”
On October 27, 2019, Brooks shared to Facebook a photo glorifying Thomas Sankara as “The Upright Man.”
Promoting BDS
The article claimed that “(t)he ruling is a significant boost to the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement that aims to pressure Israel to end its crimes against Palestinians and its violations of international law.”
On February 2, 2020, Brooks shared to Facebook a link to an article titled: “Poll: 75% of Americans Oppose Outlawing Boycotts of Israel,” published by israelpalestinenews.org.The photo displayed showed two people holding a sign that read: “Confront Zionism, Boycott Israel.”
On November 30, 2019, Brooks shared an article to Facebook titled: “In solidarity with Palestine, Norway’s capital just banned Israeli products.”
Attending the 2019 National SJP Conference
Stay tuned for more pictures and videos 😋🥰🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸 #nsjp2019 #freepalestine #فلسطين [Palestine] #SJP.”
The Conference partnered with numerous anti-Israel organizations and conducted their event in a clandestine manner.
2019 National SJP - Supporting BDS
The Conference website called to capitalize on shifts in the political climate, represented by the elections to the U.S. Congress of Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, who both support BDS. National SJP speakers also reportedly drew attention to Rep. Omar’s support for the BDS movement as the Representative for UMN’s Congressional district.During the Conference, National SJP speakers reportedly “noted the success of past divestment campaigns at the University [UMN], which ultimately resulted in the passing of a campus-wide [BDS] referendum in 2018.”
The UMN resolution passed in 2018 by a margin of 3.4 percent of those students who voted, translating to approval by 6.18% of all eligible voters. Less than 13% of the eligible voters actually voted on UMN’s BDS referendum.
2019 National SJP - Rejecting Israel and Zionism
The 2019 National SJP Conference website indicated that the goal of their “solidarity movement” was to push for policies that “demanded the end of” the state of Israel, referred to as “the Israeli occupation.”The website clarified that “the Palestinian struggle against Zionism, extends beyond the confines of 1967, and well before the Nakba,” and was based on the rejection of Jewish national self-determination in Israel.
Nakba is an Arabic term for “catastrophe” and refers to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel.
2019 National SJP - Heightened Secrecy
The 2019 National SJP Conference required attendees to be “verified and vouched for” by an SJP chapter to which they belonged and required each chapter to register as a group. The conference also required each group to be verified by a “reference––someone who is NOT going to this conference but who is or has recently been a part of your SJP.”2019 National SJP - Partnering Organizations
National SJP partnered with other anti-Israel organizations to table, sell merchandise and lead workshops, including CODEPINK, Palestine Youth Movement (PYM), Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), US Palestinian Community Network (USPCN), Palestine Legal, Watan Palestine and the Adalah Justice Project.Keynote speakers included Loubna Qutami, Chair of PYM, as well as Taher Herzallah of American Muslims for Palestine (AMP). Other speakers included Miko Peled, Sandra Tamari, Suhad Katib, Chris Gazaleh, Clarissa Bitar, Tariq Luthun, Maytha Alhassen and Sima Shakhsari.

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.
The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.
SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.
SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.
Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
