Sofia Menemenlis

Sofia Menemenlis was arrested at the anti-Israel encampment at Princeton University (Princeton) in April 2024.

The profilee's activism occurred during Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza, which Israel launched after the October 7, 2023, terror attacks when Hamas murdered nearly 1,200 Israelis, injured thousands and kidnapped hundreds.

The student group Princeton Israeli Apartheid Divest (PIAD) was a co-organizer of the encampment, which ran for three weeks. Activists demanded that Princeton divest from companies doing business in Israel.

The encampment was part of a national movement on college campuses in 2024, during Israel’s war against Hamas. The encampments were also in support of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

On April 30, 2024, PIAD said that Sofia Menemenlis was arrested for defiant trespass when Menemenlis and 12 others occupied Princeton’s Clio Hall.

On July 7, 2025, in exchange for community service and a letter of apology, the judge dismissed the charges with prejudice and ordered automatic expungement of Menemenlis’s arrest record.

As of December 2025, Sofia Menemenlis was listed on the Princeton website as a PhD candidate in atmospheric and oceanic sciences at the Center for Policy Research on Energy and the Environment at Princeton, which is located in Princeton, New Jersey.
