Sereen Hammad

Overview

Sereen Hammad has spread incitement to violence and equated Israel with Nazi Germany. She has also demonized Israel and supporters of Israel on social media.

In 2015, Hammad was an activist with Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at Brooklyn College (Brooklyn), part of City University of New York (CUNY). She is also a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

In 2015, Hammad was affiliated with American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) and was also affiliated with Al Awda — The Palestinian Right to Return Coalition

In 2016, Hammad was involved with Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), an offshoot of the Muslim Student Association (MSA).

In 2017, She was affiliated with the Muslim American Society (MAS) in NewYork.

As of May 2017, Hammad was a student at Brooklyn.

As of July 2019, Hammad tweeted: “post graduation nap boutta be POPPIN.”

Spreading Incitement

On October 18, 2015, Hammad tweeted: “When people are occupied, resistance is justified 🇵🇸.” The tweet featured a photo of a keffiyeh-clad individual holding a sign that read: “Resistance is Existence not Terrorism #HandsOffAlAqsa.”

The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a traditional pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state.

A day earlier, on October 17, 2015, Hammad tweeted: “!!!!!!!! Spread the word” above a flyer advertising a demonstration” in support of the knife intifada. The rally was was endorsed by several anti-Israel organizations, including SJP, Al Awda, AMP and MAS.

Hammad’s tweet urged people to to “counter” a “Jewish Lives Matter” gathering, called to mourn the Jews murdered by Palestinian terrorists that month.

October 2015 saw an upsurge in violence across Israel incited by Palestinian political and religious leaders. The wave of stabbings — known as the “knife intifada” — saw young Palestinians throughout the country stabbing and attempting to stab Israeli civilians.

The attacks were sparked and fueled by Palestinian leaders propagating the libel that Israel intended to desecrate the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

On October 5, 2015, Hammad promoted on Twitter an Al-Awda-organized anti-Israel demonstration. The demonstration was billed as a “Day of Rage” called for by “Palestinian forces.”

On October 4, 2015, Hammad tweeted: “Fadi Aloun, 19 year old Palestinian fatally shot by Israeli police in occupied Jerusalem. (1)”

Fadi Aloon was shot by Israeli security forces after he stabbed a 15-year-old Israeli boy. Several hours before the attack, Aloon posted “Either martyrdom or victory” on his Facebook page.

Likening Israel to Nazi Germany

On January 11, 2015, Hammad tweeted: “Hitler the sequel RT ‘@YousefMunayyer: Well this is sort of an awkward image haaretz chose’”

The tweet featured a photo from the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, showing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu waving.

On July 10, 2014, in response to a tweet by Netanyahu, Hammad tweeted: “Hitler in disguise RT ‘@netanyahu: Israel targets Hamas terrorists. Hamas targets innocent Israeli civilians.’”

Attacking Israel-Supporters

On October 25, 2016, Hammad tweeted: “ya Rab. There's a special place reserved in hell for Israel &everyone who condones its disgusting, inhumane actions.”

On February 27, 2016, Hammad tweeted: “United States of Israel.”

On October 13, 2015, Hammad tweeted: “Jahanaam [Hell] got a special place for Zionists & the illegal state of Israel”

On October 4, 2015, Hammad tweeted: “if you look @ how America treated its own Native American population, its support for Israel makes complete sense.” She added: “@JebBush not to mention the genocidal actions Israel takes to make sure Palestinians live in complete misery on THEIR OWN LAND.”

On May 1, 2015, Hammad tweeted: “‘@aaliyvh_: If you're a zionist, you israeli the lowest piece of scum on earth.”

On July 5, 2014, Hammad tweeted: “my blood boils just thinking of these inhumane zionist klaab [dogs].”

On July 9, 2014, Hammad tweeted: “the zionists waving israeli flags today had my blood boiiiillllling. how heartless do you have to be to support a genocide????”

Demonizing Israel

On August 8, 2014, Hammad tweeted a counterfeit quote, attributed to naturalist David Attenborough. The quote read: “I am unaware of any animal that is as cruel as Israelis -- not even crocodiles. They bomb schools, hospitals, refugee camps, orphanages, UN feeding stations, water works, power plants, ambulances, kids playing on the beach. They put millions of people in a siege.”

The quote continued: “They shoot children going to school. They kidnap kids and harvest their organs. They inject prisoners with disease pathogens before releasing them. They murder by land sea and air. And worst of all, they slander their defenceless victims as ‘terrorists.’”

On October 22, 2012, Hammad tweeted: “kal stand by Israel, America needs to understand that Israel is playing them, they don't give two kharas [s**ts] about America #blindfools.”

Brooklyn SJP - Supporting Terrorism

On April 28, 2016, Brooklyn SJP shared an AJ+ video on Facebook about Dima Al-Wawi.

12-year-old Al-Wawi was imprisoned for attempting to stab a security guard at the Israeli community Karmei Tzur. Al-Wawi later claimed she intended to kill the guard and hoped she would be killed in the process. “I was dreaming that I was going to be martyred,” she said.

On November 2, 2015, Brooklyn SJP co-sponsoreda vigil to support former officers of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF) — who were found guilty of funneling $12 million dollars to Hamas.

The Holy Land Five (HL5) were five individuals associated with the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF) indicted for funneling funds to Hamas in the guise of humanitarian aid. The men were all convicted and sentenced in 2009 to federal prison terms ranging from 15 to 65 years.

On October 8, 2015, Brooklyn SJP staged an anti-Israel “die-in.” On Facebook, the group claimed the event was in solidarity with an international Palestinian “Day of Rage” called “In light of... israeli aggression against Palestinians, including the murder of 17-year old Hadeel Al Hashlamoun, and 19-year-old Fadi Alloun in cold blood, execution style.”

Al Hashlamoun (18-years-old) was carrying a knife through a checkpoint and did not respond to orders to step back before she was shot by Israeli soldiers.

Fadi Aloon was shot by Israeli security forces after he stabbed a 15-year-old Israeli boy. Several hours before the attack, Aloon posted “Either martyrdom or victory” on his Facebook page.

The Brooklyn SJP Facebook post featured a photo album of its “die-in” and referred to another “Day of Rage” event on October 6th — co-hosted by American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), NYC SJP and others who supported a “Day of Rage” called by “Palestinian forces.”

The “Days of Rage” in October of 2015 were heralded by Hamas as the advent of a new intifada. They directly resulted in the deaths of Israeli civilians by shootings, stabbings and car rammings.

On October 8, 2015, Brooklyn SJP posted a graphic showing its support for a “third intifada” and called the wave of terror a “spike” in Palestinian “resistance to Israeli oppression.”

Brooklyn SJP - Condemning Interfaith Dialogue

On March 13, 2016, Brooklyn SJP co-organized a panel event titled “Counterproductive Collaborations - The Faithwashing of the Israeli Occupation of Palestine,” co-sponsored by NYC SJP, Brooklyn SJP and the Muslim American Society

The event featured former New York president of American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) and Brooklyn College graduate Raja Abdulhaq. Abdulhaq has stated that he considers any Muslim group that organizes an interfaith event with a “Zionist” counterpart to be a “betrayal.”

Brooklyn SJP - Demonizing Israel

On November 27, 2015, Brooklyn SJP shared on Facebook a misleading series of maps.

The maps claim that lands once controlled by Britain, Egypt and Jordan as autonomous “Palestinian land” were purportedly stolen by Israel. In February 2016, publisher McGraw-Hill Education recalled copies of a college textbook containing the fraudulent maps. In October 2015, American cable news network MSNBC apologized for airing a similar series of maps and retracted them.

On October 27, 2015, Brooklyn SJP shared an article on Facebook promoting a Palestinian Prisoners Club libel that “40% of Palestinian Children Detained by Israel Sexually Abused; Virtually All Tortured.”

The Facebook photo album of Brooklyn SJP’s October 8, 2015 “die-in” featured a placard claiming Israel’s security fence was an “Apartheid Wall” that was “30 times the length of Manhattan!” and “Twice as high as the Berlin wall!”

Brooklyn SJP - Promoting Hate Speech

On November 21, 2014, Brooklyn SJP hosted an event featuring disgraced anti-Israel Professor Steven Salaita.

In 2014, The University of Illinois withdrew an offer of employment to Salaita after becoming aware of his anti-Semitic tweets. One tweet, posted shortly after Hamas kidnapped three teenage Israeli high school students, read: "You may be too refined to say it, but I’m not: I wish all the f**king West Bank settlers would go missing.” In 2017, Salaita posted to Facebook: “People ask if I would go back in time and change anything. I would not…I will die unapologetic.” In February 2019, Salaita stated that he had become a school bus driver in the Washington, D.C., area.

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.

AMP

American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) was founded by UC Berkeley Professor Hatem Bazian as a vehicle to generate mainstream support in the United States for the Palestinian national cause.

On its website, the organization lists Bazian as the chairman of its national board and describes itself as “a national education and grassroots-based organization, dedicated to educating the American public about Palestine and its rich cultural, historical and religious heritage.”

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has accused AMP of promoting “extreme anti-Israel views and has at times provided a platform for anti-Semitism under the guise of educating Americans” about Palestinians. The ADL further stated that AMP is directly involved in campus-based anti-Israel activity through Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP).

Prior to founding the AMP in 2006, Dr. Bazian created SJP together with fellow UC Berkeley Professor Snehal Shingavi in 2001. The close working relationship between AMP and SJP has been documented several times over the years by several organizations, including NGO Monitor and StandWithUs

In addition to providing financial, public relations and legal assistance to SJP, AMP has also been accused of having connections to Hamas. The AMP national board includes former members of both the Islamic Association of Palestine (IAP) and Holy Land Foundation (HLF), both of which were found liable for aiding and abetting Hamas. The IAP was founded by Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook, a senior member of Hamas.
