On May 15, 2021, Akhtar tweeted: “So I’ve been called a Jew hater because I used the word ‘intifada,’ said Hamas was a reactionary force in response to Israel’s occupation, and because I shared a post that said ‘from the river to the sea, Palestine shall be free.’...”

The term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” carries the connotation of violence. Palestinian intifadas waged against Israel have been marked since 1987 by hundreds of hijackings, shootings, stabbings, bombings and suicide missions.

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free” is a chant used [00:02:47] to call for the elimination of the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state. In April 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning the chant as antisemitic.

On May 14, 2018, during the “March of Return,” Akhtar tweeted: “How did the Israeli snipers know they were killing Hamas members?? Hamas doesn’t have a uniform, and even if they did, they were unarmed…killing innocent, unarmed people is wrong.”

On May 16, 2018, Hamas senior official Salah al-Bardawil stated that 50 out of 62 protesters killed during the May 14 Gaza border protest were Hamas operatives. Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) also claimed that three of its members were killed at the same protest.

On February 1, 2022, Akhtar tweeted that Israel has carried out “APARTHEID AND ETHNIC CLEANSING…”

Akhtar retweeted a May 18, 2021 tweet that said: “Biden & Harris proclaim that U.S. & Israel share the same set of values. This is one statement that I am complete agreement with. The de-valuation of non-European life, colonial fascism, white supremacy, moral double standards are the shared values of settler colonial states.”

During Israel’s Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW), Akhtar retweeted a May 13, 2021 tweet that said: “There is no way to describe what's happening to Gaza right now as anything other than outright genocidal.”

In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.

On May 10, 2021, Akhtar tweeted: “Would love to hear why Jewish people who grew up in the west somehow have a ‘birthright’ to visit Israel, but Palestinians who have lived in the area for generations are being ethnically cleansed and displaced...”

Birthright Israel is a heritage trip to Israel for Jewish young adults from across the world.

On May 8, 2021, Akhtar tweeted: “Israel IS LITERALLY COMMITTING ETHNIC CLEANSING (as it has its ENTIRE EXISTENCE) LITERALLY F**K ALL YALL THAT ARE PROGRESSIVE IN EVERYTHING BUT PALESTINE.”

Akhtar retweeted a May 8, 2021 tweet by anti-Israel agitator Hatem Bazian that said: “...Israel and Zionism are the last settler colonial project to be commissioned by Western powers in a scheme to divide and rule.”

On June 5, 2018, Akhtar tweeted about Hamas: “They. Don’t. Want. To. Exterminate. Jews. Israel on the other hand, has no problem committing genocide against Palestinians.”

Hamas's founding charter calls for the murder of Jews, while the terror group’s “summer camps” have taught children how to wage war.

On May 13, 2018, in response to a tweet about the opening of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem the following day, Akhtar tweeted: “F**k Israel, the apartheid state.”

In December 2017, former U.S. president Donald Trump announced that he would formally recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and relocate the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

On May 10, 2021, during OGW, Akhtar tweeted: “I’m seeing zionists DEFEND Israeli rockets, tanks, and tear gas because Palestinians are using....rocks??? Am I reading that right???? Y’all need to use bombs...against people defending themselves with rocks ???? Miss me with that bulls**t…”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture. Zionism is a core part of the identity of most Jews.

Although romanticized as a form of “popular resistance,” rock throwing remains a deadly form of violence.

On May 13, 2021, Akhtar tweeted: “We don’t accept eid greetings from zionists,” in response to a tweet with an eid greeting from CNN journalist Jake Tapper.

Eid al-Fitr, or “Feast of Breaking the Fast,” is a religious holiday in Islam marking the end of a month-long fasting period during the month of Ramadan.

On May 17, 2021, Akhtar tweeted: “...Of course zionists support settler colonialism everywhere...comparing what the European c*lonizers did the Native Americans to what Israel is doing to Palestinians.”

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by pro-terror activist Omar Barghouti in 2005 to turn “Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.” Barghouti has also called for Israel's destruction and the BDS movement demands would result in that same goal.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been infiltrating university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments propose resolutions to boycott or divestment from Israel or Israeli-affiliated entities. BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents and pro-terror activism on campus.
