Maura Finkelstein
Maura Finkelstein signed a May 2026 letter that demonized the Jewish student group Hillel and its members, spread hatred of Israel and promoted the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement at The New School (TNS) in New York, New York.
The profilee's activism occurred during an extended period of global antisemitism that began with the October 7, 2023, terror attacks, when Hamas murdered nearly 1,200 Israelis, injured thousands and kidnapped hundreds. Israel immediately launched a war against Hamas.
Hillel International is a Jewish campus organization serving college students at 850 universities worldwide.
The letter Maura Finkelstein signed [no.11] claimed that Hillel at TNS and its members aided Israel in an alleged “genocide” in its war against Hamas, and that The New School should cut all funding for Hillel at TNS.
The letter used the terms “Israel Occupation Forces” and “IOF” in place of the Israeli army's real name, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). "IOF" is used to allege that Israel’s existence is illegitimate by accusing Israeli Jews of occupying and colonizing the entire land.
In 2024, students and alumni started a petition demanding that Maura Finkelstein be fired from Muhlenberg College (Muhlenberg) for "dangerous pro-Hamas rhetoric" and "blatant classroom bias against Jewish students." Muhlenberg is located in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
In June 2025, the New York Times reported that Maura Finkelstein was fired from her tenured position at Muhlenberg in 2024.
In August 2025, Maura Finkelstein said in an interview posted on YouTube that she had been an assistant and then associate professor of anthropology at Muhlenberg from 2015 to 2024. She also said Muhlenburg terminated her "tenured position on May 31, 2024, for four counts of harassment."
In June 2025, the New York Times reported that Maura Finkelstein was located in Brooklyn, New York.
