Maram Daood

Overview

Maram Daood has glorified terrorism and demonized Israel on social media. Daood was a 2016 board member of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at California State University Sacramento (CSUS).

She was also a member of the closed Facebook group belonging to the CSUS Muslim Students Association (MSA).

Daood is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement and is one of 21 members of a Facebook group titled: “we hate X israel X (نحن نكره اسرائيل).”

Daood is a student at CSUS, majoring in Construction Management.

Glorifying Terrorism

On October 16, 2015, Daood retweeted a tweet from Maram Batta, who describes herself as “a German Palestinian aka every Israelis worst nightmare.” The tweet featured a video of two Palestinians singing in Arabic, glorifying Fatah, Abu Ammar (Yasser Arafat) and Hamas.

The lyrics to the song translated from Arabic into English:

“Laith: DJ Laith (?) with Ala'a Almasri

Ala'a: We welcome the dark Keffiyeh, We welcome the Fat'hawiya (members of Fatah) x2

Ala'a: O Abu Ammar (Yasser Arafat) our leader, you're the symbol of the [Palestinian] cause x2

Ala'a: Be Generous with your blood, Oh Hamas, for proud Jerusalem

Ala'a: Don't worry about slaughtering the impure.”

The second part of the video Daood retweeted, continued in the same vein:
“Ala'a: Your banners are the foundation, as long as they're Islamic

Ala'a: Your masses are proud, the Qassamiya (a reference to
Al-Izz ad-Din Al Qassam Brigades)

Ala'a: The red banner has risen, the banners of the frontier people

Ala'a: In your name you speak of the revolution, in the name of popular front x2

Laith: (Makes shooting sounds)”

The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades is the armed wing of Hamas. In the mid-1990s, its leader of the West Bank battalion, Yahya Ayyash — known as the Engineer of Death — was the chief bombmaker behind numerous suicide bombings on civilian busses.

On January 28, 2015, Daood retweeted a tweet by SJP at Sac State president Aya Khalifeh, that read : “From 2000-2008, more people in Israel died from peanut allergies than they did from Hamas rockets. Keep that in mind.”

Demonizing Israel

On September 21, 2015, Daood retweeted a tweet that read: “Dear @Snapchat, Israel kills more children per capita than any terrorist group in the world. Israel has killed peace.”

On September 13, 2015, Daood retweeted a number of tweets claiming that Israel or Zionists were attacking the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, tweeting the hashtag #AlAqsaUnderAttack.

On September 15, 2015 masked Palestinian rioters barricaded themselves inside the Dome of the Rock. They set off fireworks —  which started a small fire —  and threw stones and debris stored inside at Israeli police. The police later found pipe bombs the rioters had prepared to launch at Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount plaza.

Sac State SJP - Anti-Semitic President

The 2016-2017 president of Sac State SJP — Aya Khalifeh — has spread anti-Semitic posts on social media, equated Israel with Nazi Germany, promoted hatred of Israel, claimed that 9/11 was an “inside job” and that ISIS is a United States government creation. Khalifeh has also shared several images on Twitter romanticizing Palestinian militants throwing rocks at Israelis.

From September 2016 to March 2017, Khalifeh was active in pushing a divestment campaign at Sac State, urging the California State University system to boycott companies that do business with Israel.

After SJP Uncovered posted a screenshot on Facebook of a tweet by Sac State SJP board member Taha Marmosh that read “Wtf! No I’m sorry. This is straight bullshit. Islam does not support Gay Marriage so keep it & the Kaabah out of it” — as well as Facebook posts that were critical of Sac State SJP’s proposed divestment resolution, Sac State SJP responded: “Our club has never discriminated against another club or a group of people for their color, religion, sexualities, beliefs, or ethnicity, nor will we ever stand for that type of discrimination towards our brothers and sisters around us, no matter who they are.”

However, Khalifeh has made anti-Semitic tweets calling Jews “dogs” and spread conspiracy theories of “Jewish control.”

On November 5, 2014, Khalifeh tweeted: “Falasteen bladna, wil yahood klabna [Palestine is our land and the Jews are our dogs].”

On November 18, 2012, Khalifeh tweeted: “@JONNTEJEDA yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying. Also hence why at the head of each massive foreign policies department is a jew in control.”

On August 17, 2014, Khalifeh tweeted: “About to beat up this yahoodi [Jew] on the jisir.”

Khalifeh has also organized other Sac State SJP events, including an event that featured anti-Israel New York political organizer Linda Sarsour

In an October 26, 2016 interview with the State Hornet, Khalifeh reportedly said that she has looked up to Sarsour for years and that so much of what she does on campus with SJP is because of Sarsour’s influence.

Sac State SJP - Pushing BDS

On September 17, 2016, Sac State SJP announced on Facebook the launch of its anti-Israel divestment campaign, likening Israel to apartheid South Africa. The status read: “SJP at Sacramento-State can now officially announce that we are one of them. Join us in making sure that we are on the right side of history. Our divestment campaign is officially initiated, people.🇵🇸#SacStateDivest.”

On October 5, 2016, Sac State SJP shared a Facebook status that read: “In honor of us proposing divestment on campus ~ This is a great short video for anyone who isn't very familiar with the BDS movement.🇵🇸.”

The post linked to a malicious video produced by the anti-Israel Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) movement. The video claimed that Israel was established “through the ruthless and well planned ethnic cleansing of 750,000 Palestinians” through a “colonial logic of conquest, destruction and expulsion has continued until the present day.”

On March 5, 2017, Sac State SJP shared a Facebook status “pushing for a divestment hearing concerning the resolution we proposed to the school last year.”

Sac State SJP added new clauses to the bill including to “-Boycott of Sabra Hummus that is sold on campus for having companies built on illegal settlement land in Palestine.”

The post linked to a Facebook page “CSUS Divest” — the name of the campaign launched by Sac State SJP.

As of May, 14, 2017, according to the CSUS Divest Facebook Page, the campaign called for CSUS to divest from what it claimed are corporations “complicit in and which profit from the occupation and oppression of marginalized communities across the globe that includes, but is not limited to, our Palestinian brothers and sisters, African American brothers and sisters, undocumented brothers and sisters, and more.”

Saja Daood — a Sac State SJP student activist— claimed that “The (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement has the entire list of companies that support human rights violators.”

The BDS website, however, only targets companies that do business with Israel.

The resolution proposed that contracts the university has had with targeted companies “not be renewed when they expire.”

Sac State SJP - Collaborating with Anti-Semitic Filmmakers

On April 6, 2017, Sac State SJP — under the banner of CSUS Divest — held a Divestment workshop that featured Peace House Productions (Peace House). The divestment workshop claimed that Peace House would also be “filming a promo video for our campaign!”

Peace House has produced several videos that vilified Israel and employed anti-Semitic tropes against American Jewish organizations. On February 2, 2016, (after Florida became the fifth American state to pass a resolution condemning BDS movement), Peace House produced a video featuring former USF SJP student activist Mahmoud Ali Mohamed attacking the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). In the video, Mohamed walked around the Florida Legislature making pronouncements that conjured anti-Semitic references to the “Jewish Lobby” and dual loyalty.

Sac State SJP - Promoting George Galloway

On September 5, 2016, Sac State SJP shared what it called a “must watch” video on Facebook of George Galloway debating in the British Parliament. In the video, Galloway condemned the United Kingdom for issuing the 1917 Balfour Declaration and called for sanctions on imports and exports between Britain and Israel.

Galloway’s anti-Zionist rhetoric has been condemned as anti-Semitic on numerous occasions. In 2013, Galloway walked out of an Oxford debate saying “I don’t recognize Israel and refuse to debate with Israelis” when he discovered one of the participating students was an Israeli citizen. In 2014, Galloway declared his constituency of Bradford an “Israel-free-zone.”

Sac State SJP - Demonizing Israeli Leaders

On September 29, 2016  — following the death of former Israeli statesman Shimon Peres —  Sac State SJP shared a Facebook status that condemned world leaders grieving Peres’ death.

Sac State SJP wrote: “Palestinians will never forget the part Peres had in the ethnic cleansing of their villages… He should not be honored as the ‘dove of peace’, coined by Bill Clinton, but rather a man who destituted the term ‘peace’ and held no reverence for international law.”

Sac State SJP - Spreading Libels

On March 11, 2017, Sac State SJP shared video on Facebook produced by AJ+ (Al Jazeera) — a Qatari-funded channel notorious for spreading misinformation about Israel.

The video promoted the Saltwater Challenge, which purports that Palestinians in Israeli prisons are given only saltwater to drink.

On August 21, 2016, Sac State SJP declared solidarity on Facebook with the Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) Policy Platform, which endorsed BDS and accused Israel of committing “genocide” against Palestinians.

On August 2, 2016, M4BL released its Platform, claiming that: “The US justifies and advances the global war on terror via its alliance with Israel and is complicit in the genocide taking place against the Palestinian people.”

The M4BL Platform further claimed that “Israel is an apartheid state” and insinuated that U.S. aid to Israel is the cause of underfunded “domestic education and social programs” in the United States.

Sac State SJP - Hosting Radicals

On October 16, 2016, Sac State SJP promoted and hosted a speaking event at Sac State, featuring violent agitator Issa Amro — the head of Youth Against Settlements — known for vandalism and attacking Israeli soldiers. Amro has been charged with numerous acts of violence against Israeli civilians and security forces.

The event was coordinated with JVP and Code PinkAriel Gold, who is active with both organizations, attended the event.

In 2015, Gold coordinated a five-week American speaking tour for Palestinian propagandist Bassem Tamimi, whose U.S. visa has since been revoked

Gold brought Tamimi to a third-grade classroom in Ithaca, New York, where he  encouraged grade-school children to become “freedom fighters for Palestine.” Tamimi is notorious for exploiting young children as political props by manufacturing confrontations with Israeli soldiers who respond to the riots that Tamimi organizes. In 2011, Tamimi was jailed for organizing violent rallies and inciting minors to violence, like rock-throwing.

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.

MSA

The MSA was  established by members of the Muslim Brotherhood in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with the goal of "spreading Islam as students in North America." A 2004 FBI investigation uncovered an internal Muslim Brotherhood document in which a brotherhood leader identified the MSA as "one of our organizations."

The MSA reportedly has “nearly 600 chapters” located in the United States and Canada, and is “the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America,” boasting conferences, special events, publications, websites and other activities.

The organization includes a number of previous chapter presidents with explicit links to terrorist groups. Included are al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki (Colorado State University), Somali al-Shabaab militant leader Omar Shafik Hammami (University of South Alabama) and Pakistani Taliban recruiter Ramy Zamzam of the MSA's Washington, D.C. council.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
