Lubna Morrar

Overview

Lubna Morrar led chants of “Intifada, Intifada!” when disrupting Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat’s speech at San Francisco State University (SFSU), on April 6, 2016.

She has propagated an anti-Semitic blood libel, praised terrorism and expressed support for terrorists. She has also incited hatred of Israelis through poetry.

Morrar has spread hatred of Israel, supported the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement and promoted a violent anti-Israel agitator.

In 2014, Morrar was the president of the General Union of Palestine Students (GUPS) at SFSU.

From January 2010 through August 2013, Morrar was a “Youth Coordinator” at the Arab Resource and Organizing Center (AROC). In April 2016, AROC’s website said that Morrar worked with the Arab Youth Organization (AYO)

Lubna Morrar is a 2017 graduate of SFSU, where she majored in Sociology.

As of April 2018, Morrar’s LinkedIn page said that she was a “Hair And Makeup Artist” at Dekko Salon.

Leading Chants for an Intifada

On April 6, 2016, Morrar and fellow GUPS SFSU member Linda Ereikat led a large group of anti-Israel protesters that shouted down Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, while he was speaking at SFSU.

Upon entering the room, Morrar led the group in yelling, “Get the f**k of our campus!” She then led the group in other chants including “Intifada, Intifada!” as well as, “If we don’t get no justice, then you don’t get no peace” and “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free!”

Barkat’s personal security guards moved in to ensure his safety and a campus police officer arrived while student leaders from the event attempted to dialogue with the protesters. The protesters persisted in their disruption, forcing Barkat to move from the podium to sit with the audience, in an attempt to continue his talk.

On April 7, 2016, SFSU President Les Wong issued a statement condemning the protesters for the disruption and promised to open an investigation of the incident.

Propagating Anti-Semitic Blood Libels

On August 5, 2014, Morrar promoted a blood libel, claiming on Facebook: “Israeli government is releasing a chemical into the air all over Jerusalem and the apartheid wall that is not neither tear gas or white phosphate. I think, and this is my own conclusion, it's a form of cancer that is also tricking [sic] into houses, water, streets and plants.”

Praising Terrorism

On August 9, 2014, Morrar wrote on Facebook that she had visited Israel “for a little over two weeks, and I've come to many conclusions.” Morrar’s “strongest” conclusion was that: “The strong either survive or become martyrs. There is no in between here, and [Palestine] does not give birth to cowards, only heroes and traitors. You just have to determine which one you will become.”

On August 5, 2014, Morrar published a list of events on Facebook marking several terrorist acts for celebration:

“10. A man in al quds, working on a caterpillar tractor, that was being attacked by settlers, tipped over the bus carrying 70 settlers, killing 2 and Injuring many...

Other events commemorated by Morrar were:

“11. A man ran over 3 settlers, and injured 5.

13. 3 jeeps were attacked at Qalandia, and soldiers were injured.

16. A Palestinian man ran into the largest settlement in Jerusalem, Ammanadoumim,[sic.] and set off a bomb, he was ale [sic.] to escape.

15. THE F**KEN RESISTANCE LIVES!!!!!!!”

On July 23, 2015 Morrar wrote on Facebook: “This Battle shall not end as long as the siege on Gaza is maintained, the colonization of the historical land of Palestine is perpetrated and the Zionists imprison and torture our people. This struggle shall only be won when we will all be united, around a vision based on ... the liberation of all Palestine!”

Supporting Terrorists

On April 26, 2017, Morrar shared a Facebook post supporting Palestinian convicts then hunger-striking in Israeli jails.

She wrote: “Dignity over hunger. Over 1,500 Palestinian political prisoners are continuing their hunger strike in Israeli jails, living on only water and salt. The Strike of Freedom and Dignity enters its 10th day #hungryforjustice.”

Terrorist Marwan Barghouti was sentenced to five consecutive life terms for some of his crimes, including his role in the Sbarro Cafe bombing. In 2017, he initiated the hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners known as the “Dignity Strike.” He headed the Palestinian Authority (PA) terrorist Tanzim force and founded the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, which carried out many terror attacks against Israeli civilians.

On December 9, 2014, Morrar shared on Facebook a progress update from the defense committee of terrorist Rasmea Odeh.

Odeh was a key military operative with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terrorist organization. In 1969, she masterminded a PFLP supermarket bombing that killed two college students. She also attempted to bomb the British consulate in Jerusalem. Odeh later moved to the United States but was deported to Jordan in 2017 for immigration fraud.

Anti-Israel Poetry

In the Spring of 2015, Morrar recited an anti-Israel poem at the Make it Fresh: Creative Storytelling for the Urban Environment showcase in Richmond, CA.

During her performance Morrar depicted [00:02:53] Israeli border security measures as a form of racist oppression. Morrar also referred [00:04:01] to Israelis as “white settler Zionist people.”

Morrar later mocked [00:02:37] pictures of Israeli soldiers that featured women of different races. Morrar then described a female Israeli soldier as a “b*tch-*ss”andclaimed that the soldier brandished a Kalashnikov rifle.

Morrar went on to call [00:05:08] Israelis “objects” that are “not just human but are full devil…” Morrar also said [00:05:14] she hates America.

In January 2014, Morrar recited another poem she wrote at “Assata will Rise.” During her performance, Morrar demonized [00:01:06] Israel as the “colonizer” who has no culture, body, “fit women,” love for his people and no native tongue… “therefore there is nothing to do but resist.”

Morrar continued [00:01:51]: “ the colonizer is unauthentic, he has no roots, he is mean to hurt us, beat us….rape us... give us limited access to basic humans needs….control who chose to love.”

She concluded [00:03:05] ]that the “colonizer… knows my anger, he knows my wrath, knows my fist, he knows the guns are always, always packed and the stones are always ready and knows the streets will blaze at any time.”

Spreading Hatred of Israel

On September 8, 2014, Morrar wrote on Facebook: “I used to cross out ‘Israel’ on all the maps when I was a youngin'. My teachers always, always knew who it was. and I gave no f**ks.”

On August 7, 2014, Morrar described Israel's Operation Protective Edge (OPE) as a “Massacre,” writing on Facebook: “1900 Palestinians have been massacred.”

Israel commenced Operation Protective Edge (OPE) in July 2014, to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.

On July 23, 2014, Morrar wrote on Facebook: “the Zionists are slaughtering families, bombing blindly houses, clinics and mosques in Gaza.”

In the same Facebook post, Morrar described the Gaza conflict as an ...“unbalanced struggle between a racist ideology and the heroic resistance of the Palestinian people...”

She went on to claim that Israel is ‘a colonial project aiming at erasing the Palestinian people...Zionists imprison and torture our people.”

Supporting BDS

On July 23, 2014, Morrar confirmed her support for BDS to aid armed struggle against Israel, saying:  “The armed struggle in Palestine is sustained by our mobilization in the street, and by intensifying, everywhere, the campaign for the boycott against Israel and the sanctions against the Zionist state.”

Promoting an Anti-Israel Agitator

On December 19, 2017, Morrar shared a post on Facebook calling to “Free Ahed Tamimi.” On January 7, 2018, Morrar changed her Facebook cover photo to a photo of Tamimi.

Ahed Tamimi has a long history of physically attacking Israeli soldiers. Tamimi is the daughter of Bassem Tamimi, who is known for exploiting young children as political props in staged confrontations with Israeli soldiers.

GUPS SFSU

The General Union of Palestinian Students (GUPS) at San Francisco State University (GUPS SFSU) was founded in 1973. GUPS was officially founded in Cairo, Egypt, in 1959, to promote the political program of Fatah (also founded in 1959), among Palestinian Arab youth. GUPS is currently headquartered in Ramallah.

GUPS Promoting Incitement

On October 14, 2015 — during a month of spiraling Palestinian violence, directed mainly against Israeli civilians — GUPS SFSU posted on Facebook that it "supports the uprising in Palestine." The post continued: “We Stand with our Brothers and Sisters in the streets, and we will find victory!” The post also urged:” End to the colonist empire! We will not be silenced!” and called for an “End to the Zionist State!”

The following day, GUPS SFSU called on its Facebook followers to "echo the rage of our Palestinian people." The group fueled its call with a series of libels that have been historically violence-provoking, claiming “hundreds of Zionist settlers have stormed into Al-Aqsa,” “Zionist forces continue to violate and damage al-Aqsa by burning down doors, setting fire to the rugs … leading to the murder of 27 Palestinian youth within the past week and over 2000 injured.”

Similar propaganda incited the upsurgeof Palestinian Arab violence in Israel, in late 2015. Hamasalso called to violently "rise up and defend Al-Aqsa" and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas praised those willing to “martyr” themselves for Al-Aqsa — declaring that Jews would not be allowed to “desecrate” Al Aqsa with their “filthy feet.”

Referring to terrorists who were neutralized by Israeli forces and whose homes were later ordered demolished, Ereikat’s post said: "Along with the murder of our youth, Zionist forces have also demanded the demolition of their family homes in Ramallah, Surdah and Nablus. Ereikat’s post concluded with the claim that “Palestinian men and women have been surrounding each and every city day and night to protect the homes of their fellow people and to protect their cities from Zionist invasion."

In August 2013, then-GUPS President Mohammad G. Hammad posted a picture of himself on one of his Tumblr accounts, holding a knife — with the caption, "I seriously can not get over how much I love this blade. It is the sharpest thing I own and cuts through everything like butter and just holding it makes me want to stab an Israeli soldier."

News sources said that Hammad then identified a female Israeli soldier and said, “The only ‘peace’ I’m interested in is the head of this f*cking scum on a plate, as well as the heads of all others like her, and all others who support the IDF.”

GUPS Celebrating Murder

On November 7, 2013, GUPS SFSU celebrated a Palestinian mural on SFSU’s campus by setting up an art station for students to create their own placards, using a pre-made stencil with the words "MY HEROES HAVE ALWAYS KILLED COLONIZERS."

An article appearing on the Northern California International Solidarity Movement (ISM) website confirmed that GUPS SFSU provided an additional stencil, featuring an image of convicted airline hijacker Leila Khaled

Leila Khaled is a leading member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and participated in the hijacking of TWA Flight 840 in 1969 and El Al Flight 219 in 1970. As of 2017, Khaled was a member of PFLP's Political Bureau. Khaled has said that the second intifada failed because it was not violent enough, advocated [00:36:07] for the use of children in terror activities and compared Zionists to Nazis.

On November 19, 2013 SFSU President Les Wong released a statement condemning the GUPS mural event as anti-Semitic. California State legislators issued a letter thanking President Wong for condemning "[c]elebrations of violence" and “hateful demonstrations [that] foster prejudice and bigotry” and “seek to intimidate the Jewish community.”

However, GUPS doubled-down. On March 9, 2016, the group posted on Facebook a photo of a mural featuring Leila Khaled — with the comment "Happy International Women's Day to all of the fierce women resisting colonial powers and repression every day!"

On February 21, 2016, GUPS held an event in support of hunger-striking Muhammad al-Qiq, whom Israel detained for Hamas terror-related activities. The GUPS event misleadingly characterized al-Qiq merely as a "journalist."

GUPS BDS

In July 2014, GUPS SFSU encouraged its Facebook followers celebrating Ramadan to boycott Israeli dates. The Facebook post linked to a site detailing the boycott effort and featuring a banner with signs reading "Zionism is Racism - Boycott Israel" and “Stop Funding Genocide - Boycott Israel.”

In October 2014, GUPS SFSU endorsed a "Block the Boat Protest" where BDS supporters stopped a shipment from ZIM, an Israeli shipping company, from unloading its cargo in Oakland, California.

GUPS Spreading Hate and Disinformation

In September of 2014 and 2015, GUPS SFSU held campus events commemorating victims of the 1982 Sabra and the Shatila massacre, who were killed by Lebanese Christian militiamen.

After the 2014 event, GUPS SFSU made clear it blamed Israel and the West for the killings, posting on Facebook that the commemoration was for those Palestinians "who lost their lives due to Israeli and Western Terror. Especially to the lives lost in Sabra and Shatila Refugee Camp in Lebanon." That post continued: “A Free Palestine, means the end to Racism, Zionism, Capitalism, Liberalism, and all the isms that continue to oppress the people. May we always stand side by side, Hand in Hand, and our fits [sic.] pumped to the sky. FREE THE LAND! FREE THE PEOPLE! FREE PALESTINE!”

GUPS SFSU reportedly met Hilleland I-Team members, who presented an alternative perspective on the massacre, with "finger-pointing and name-calling." Morrar added the claim that “our tax dollars go to fund these [Israeli] massacres.”

In May 2014, GUPS SFSU posted an op-ed by Israel-hater Ahmed Moor, titled "Al-Nakba is not over." The op-ed commemorated May 15th as a day “to recommit to our century-long struggle to overcome Zionism” — and propagated the historically and currently false, anti-Semitic claim that “Jewish-Israelis ... ethnically cleanse Palestine.”

In May 2013, GUPS SFSU began holding an annual campus event for "al-Nakba day" to “mark 65 years since the establishment of Israel” and what it calls “the occupation over Palestinian land and the Palestinian people.”

GUPS SFSU also organizes an annual Israel Apartheid Weekto unfairly demonize Israel. The week features the building of a mock security wall on campus and mischaracterizes the true nature of Israel’s security fence.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
