Earlier on May 20, 2021, Ahmad participated [00:06:36] in a violent counterprotest against a pro-Israel rally in Times Square. He could be seen [00:06:36] in a FreedomNewsTV Youtube video published May 20, 2021, on the left side of the screen wearing a black shirt with dark pants and a black and white patterned keffiyeh draped around his shoulders as he drank from a bottle of water.
Ahmad posted a video on Instagram the same day as the counterprotest of anti-Israel protesters chanting: “Allahu akbar [God is the greatest]” and“لا اله الا الله والشهيد حبيب الله [There is no God but Allah and the Martyr is a Beloved of Allah].” He wrote in his post: “FREEDOM IS TAKEN NOT GIVEN #FREEPALESTINE...”
The rally was held on the day a ceasefire was announced, ending Israel’s Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW) in Gaza.
In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.
During the rally, anti-Israel activists pushed against a police barricade separating thetwo groups. The anti-Israel side crossed the barricade and marched toward the pro-Israel side, cursing at the pro-Israel activists.
After demonstrators threw projectiles, police proceeded to arrest several anti-Israel activists. Police declared the assembly to be “unlawful” and demanded that the crowd disperse or be arrested. Despite police warnings, some rioters reportedly continued throwing projectiles at police while others fled the scene.
While police used bicycles to disperse the rioters and pursue a number of them, some anti-Israel activists overturned police barricades to obstruct the street. Others threw garbage bags filled with trash onto the street, while others dragged traffic barriers onto the street and overturned fencing.
Ahmad initially appeared [00:02:22] in a video of the attack, published on May 20, 2021, on the left side of the screen, wearing a red baseball cap, a black shirt and a black and white patterned keffiyeh on his shoulders while breaking past the other demonstrators.
The incident occurred on the same day as a WOL march that began at the Israeli consulate in Manhattan titled: “Emergency Rally to Defend Palestine.”
Ahmad also appeared in a DailyMail news photo of the attack, standing next to violent anti-Israel activist Saadah Masoud and others gathered behind violent anti-Israel activist Salem Seleiman as Seleiman punched one of the Israel supporters.
In a YouTube video of the incident, Ahmad could be seen advancing [00:05:25] on the officers while wearing a red baseball cap, a black shirt and a keffiyeh. He also held a Palestinian flag.
On May 18, 2021, Ahmad posted a video of the WOL rally to Instagram and wrote: “NYC SHUTTING IT DOWN.. FREEDOM IS TAKEN NOT GIVEN #FREEPALESTINE…” On the next day, Ahmad posted on Instagram a photo of himself at the rally, waving a Palestinian flag.
Ahmad also appeared [third photo] with other individuals confronting police officers in a May 19, 2021 Daily Mail news article that reported on the WOL rally.
At the same protest, activists shredded and burned [00:24:45] an Israeli flag and chanted: “Burn that s**t! Burn that s**t!” Ahmad could be seen [00:29:29] later in the video holding a Palestinian flag.
The video that Ahmad posted to Instagram showed protesters holding signs that said: “From the River to the Sea Palestine Will Be Free” and also promoted the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. Ahmad wrote in his post: “No one stopping this movement.. FREE PALESTINE…”
At the May 15, 2021, WOL protest, anti-Israel protesters chanted [00:25:13]: “بروح ودم نفديك يااقصى [With spirit, with blood, we will redeem you, Aqsa]!” The chant honors martyrdom to “redeem” the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
Protesters at the rally chanted [00:07:13]: “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free!” and [00:27:34]: “Five, six, seven, eight, Israel is a terrorist state!” Protesters also held signs that said [00:06:21]: “Zionists are Nazis.”
Ahmad's video showed anti-Israel activists chanting [00:00:22]: “Intifada, intifada! Long live the intifada!” Protesters also chanted [00:00:59]: “No justice, no peace!”
Since the early 2000s, the term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” has carried the connotation of violence.
Protesters at the rally also chanted [00:35:32]: “It is right to rebel! Israel, go to hell!”

Running from the Police
During the counterprotest, Ahmad ran [00:11:16] from the police after they began [00:09:23] arresting protestors who refused police instructions to disperse. He wore the same outfit described above.Ahmad posted a video on Instagram the same day as the counterprotest of anti-Israel protesters chanting: “Allahu akbar [God is the greatest]” and“لا اله الا الله والشهيد حبيب الله [There is no God but Allah and the Martyr is a Beloved of Allah].” He wrote in his post: “FREEDOM IS TAKEN NOT GIVEN #FREEPALESTINE...”

May 18, 2021 - Joining a Violent Mob at a WOL Protest
Ahmad joined [00:02:22] a mob that violently attacked two men, one of whom held an Israeli flag. He also pushed [00:05:25] and breached [00:05:29] a police line as he participated in a WOL protest the same day.Ahmad initially appeared [00:02:22] in a video of the attack, published on May 20, 2021, on the left side of the screen, wearing a red baseball cap, a black shirt and a black and white patterned keffiyeh on his shoulders while breaking past the other demonstrators.

Pushing and Breaching a Line of Police Officers
Ahmad joined a group of anti-Israel protesters who pushed [00:05:25] against and broke [00:05:29] through a line of police officers, after which the officers escorted [00:05:37] him back to the space designated for protesters. In a YouTube video of the incident, Ahmad could be seen advancing [00:05:25] on the officers while wearing a red baseball cap, a black shirt and a keffiyeh. May 15, 2021 - Nakba Day WOL Rally in Brooklyn
Ahmad posted live footage on Instagram of a May 15, 2021, WOL rally titled: “Nakba 73 Defend Palestine!” The rally occurred during OGW and it took place in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.
“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free” is a chant calling to dismantle the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state.
On May 7-10, 2021, violent clashes broke out between Palestinian worshippers and Israeli police at the Al-Aqsa compound, following claims that Al-Aqsa Mosque was in danger. The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy Al-Aqsa has been a traditional pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state.
May 11, 2021 - WOL Rally for Palestine During OGW
Ahmad shared footage on Instagram on multiple occasions of a May 11, 2021, WOL rally titled: “Emergency Rally for Palestine.” On the post, Ahmad wrote: “Protest for Palestine NYC.”

Hatred of Israel
On May 16, 2021, Ahmad posted on Instagram a photo of a ship carrying Jewish refugees from France captioned: “Jewish refugees arrive in Palestine with a banner proclaiming: ‘The Germans [Nazis] destroyed our families and homes - don’t you destroy our hopes.’ 1947.. short memory I guess…”
On the post, Ahmad wrote: “right short memory... #freepalestine…”
This photograph of Jewish refugees was used on anti-Israel social media as a meme to suggest that Israel was comparable to Nazi Germany.
Acts of violence and physical confrontations with police have frequently occurred at WOL protests and marches. WOL uses harassment campaigns to target pro-Israel organizations or companies that do business with Israel, making it a part of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Multiple activists who have either burned Israeli flags or led chants at WOL rallies were later jailed for violent anti-Semitic hate crimes, including Saadah Masoud and Waseem Awawdeh. In Masoud’s case, he received 18 months in jail for an anti-Semitic assault at an April 2022 WOL rally and two other anti-Semitic assaults in 2021.
WOL promotes “resistance” against Israel “by any means necessary,” calls to “Globalize the Intifada,” spreads incitement and idolizes [00:34:06] Palestinian terrorists like Leila Khaled and others at rallies and online events.
WOL was founded by Nerdeen Kiswani and Dan Cione in 2015. Kiswani is a frequent speaker at WOL rallies where she has promoted terrorism against Israelis and called for the death of Zionists. She has also provided support for Masoud and other activists following their arrests.
WOL began as the New York City chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), going by NYC SJP, but changed its name in 2018. The group is not found to be registered in any U.S. state as a nonprofit organization under its official name. Nor is there any listing for WOL under its name on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website for tax-exempt organizations.

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 countries have adopted the definition as well.
