Promoting Incitement
On May 11, 2021, Rosenberg tweeted: “Today at 5:00 PM! Show strength and solidarity for our Palestinian siblings at home and abroad. #SaveSheikhJarrah #SaveSilwan #DefendJerusalem #GazaUnderAttack.”Jewish ownership claims to lands in Silwan, a Jerusalem neighborhood also known as Shiloach, have been frequently met with Palestinian violence against Israelis who sought to reclaim their property rights.
Supporting a Terrorist (PIJ)
On October 23, 2020, Rosenberg tweeted: “EMERGENCY ACTION: Stand in solidarity with Palestinian political prisoner Maher al-Akhras as he crosses his 90th day of hunger strike. Join us at the Israeli Consulate in NYC today at 4:00 PM. cc @jvplive Details here…”That same day, Rosenberg tweeted: “Maher al-Akhras is on his 90th day of hunger strike. We’re outside the Israeli Consulate demanding Israel to free all political prisoners. #FreeMaherAlAkhras #FreeMaher.”
Israeli authorities arrested Maher al-Akhras in July 2020 for his alleged prominent role as a PIJ activist. Israel released al-Akhras in November 2020 after he undertook a prolonged hunger strike.
On November 7, 2020, Rosenberg tweeted: “This is getting buried in the news, but Palestinian political prisoner Maher al-Akhras is ending a 103-day hunger strike after it was announced he will be released 11/26. This is a win for the thousands of unjustly detained Palestinians in Israeli prisons…”
Hatred of Zionists
On June 26, 2021, Rosenberg posted to Facebook: “My Pride has been me fighting two things from my bed: a vicious cold and vicious zionists. Anywho Happy Pride!
"On May 31, 2021, Rosenberg tweeted: “If you don’t think the Zionism is built on racism, just take a look at how anti-Black its thought leaders are. It’s really not that hard.”
Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.
Also on May 31, 2021, Rosenberg tweeted: “...The anti-Blackness in the Zionist movement is so deeply gross and egregious.”
On May 22, 2021, Rosenberg tweeted: “I’m seeing online Zionists retweet fascist accounts. This was always par for the course. They will embrace anyone and everyone that will support their racist and oppressive ideologue.”
On August 6, 2020, Rosenberg tweeted: “I’m really sick of Zionist Jews aggressive and gross attempts to police Jewishness. We are not bound to political ideology and we are no less Jews because of it.”
On November 21, 2020, Rosenberg tweeted: “Zionism is both racist and evil yes.”
Demonizing Israel
On March 22, 2022, Rosenberg tweeted photos from a JVP protest in New York and wrote: “...celebrating the victory of ending the ADL’s [Anti-Defamation League] harmful police exchange with Israel and the demand to end police exchanges everywhere…”In 2017, JVP launched the “Deadly Exchange (DX)” campaign, which accused American Jewish organizations of promoting human rights abuses. JVP also released a video that blamed [00:04:04] U.S.-based Jewish organizations for violence that occurs against Black and Brown communities, immigrants and activists in the U.S.
“Pinkwashing” is a claim that Israel advocates manipulate the LGBTQ community in order to garner support for Israel.
On May 14, 2021, during Israel’s OGW, Rosenberg tweeted: “This is not complicated. Israel is choosing genocide.”
Also on May 11, 2021, Rosenberg tweeted: “...Israel is not a model for ‘Queer Liberation’ in the Middle East. It is a model for ‘Queer Exploitation’ in the Middle East. It is a failure in our movement to let our lives and experiences be used as propaganda tools to defend oppression and apartheid.”
On May 9, 2021, Rosenberg tweeted: “If you are still questioning if Israel is a fascist apartheid state, challenge your humanity.”
On August 13, 2020, Rosenberg tweeted: “There’s nothing ‘diplomatic’ or ‘peaceful’ about continued illegal occupation and apartheid over Palestinian lives…”
On February 10, 2020, Rosenberg tweeted: “...Palestinians should have a right to return. Period.”
The “right of return” is a Palestinian demand discredited as a means to eliminate Israel. International law mandates no absolute right of return and UN Resolution 194, which defined principles for “refugees wishing to return to their homes,” was unanimously rejected by Arab nations following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.
Hatred of the Police
Also on September 2, 2020, Rosenberg tweeted: “ACAB…”
“ACAB” is an acronym that stands for “All cops are bastards.”
On July 28, 2020, Rosenberg tweeted: “...F**k the NYPD. F**k the politicians that protect them.”
On July 12, 2020, Rosenberg tweeted: “...The NYPD is a terrorist organization and the @NYCMayor @NYCCouncil budget is documented blood money.”
On June 9, 2020, Rosenberg tweeted: “It happened during Trump’s fascist admin. but America was always a police state.”
On April 4, 2018, Rosenberg tweeted: “The NYPD is a terrorist organization.”
Anti-Israel Activism (JVP, WOL)
One Twitter user responded to the original tweet: “@jvpliveNYHave you considered protesting outside of Senator Schumer’s home?Seems like that kind of action is what is necessary to cause change.Maybe Gov Hochul’s home too?@jvplive @JvpAction.”
Among Palestinians and anti-Israel activists, the term “resistance” can be a euphemism for nationalistic terror. It is often used to excuse or even glorify anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence.
The rally that he tweeted the live video from was organized by the anti-Israel group Within Our Lifetime (WOL). A WOL Instagram post for the event stated: “Stand with the call from Palestine against the zionist invasion on Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem.”
The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state. Such propaganda has led to multiple periods of violence against Israeli civilians.
During the event, Nerdeen Kiswani, the co-founder of WOL, led [00:20:02] protestors in the chant: “There is only one solution! Intifada revolution!” while standing [00:16:24] outside of the Israeli consulate in New York. Protestors also chanted [00:13:54] “From New York to Aza, globalize the intifada!”
Since the early 2000s, the term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” has carried the connotation of violence.
On May 18, 2021, Rosenberg posted on Instagram photos and a video from a WOL protest he attended [slide 2] in New York and wrote: “From today’s #PalestineStrike protest in NYC. Slide over to see what liberation looks like. Also hearing there’s been arrests. Please head to 1 Police Plaza for Jail Support.
.”In one of the photos he posed [slide 2] with JVP activist Shatzi Weisberger, who was holding a sign that said: “THIS 90 year old JEW SAYS ZIONISM IS GENOCIDE.”
On December 15, 2020, Rosenberg tweeted: “Watching Miss Major (@immissmajor) lighting the menorah for the 5th night of Chanukah in honor of @jvpliveNY virtual Chanukah Party benefiting @AdalahJustice was MAJOR. What a blessing. cc @jvplive.”
On September 25, 2020, Rosenberg posted on Instagram: “Finally met one of my heroes Shatzi Weisberger fighting for Palestinian dignity right outside the UN during the UNGA [UN General Assembly]!...”
BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
WOL
Within Our Lifetime (WOL) is a pro-terror activist group in New York City dedicated to Israel’s destruction within the lifetime of its members.Acts of violence and physical confrontations with police have frequently occurred at WOL protests and marches. WOL uses harassment campaigns to target pro-Israel organizations or companies that do business with Israel, making it a part of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Multiple activists who have either burned Israeli flags or led chants at WOL rallies were later jailed for violent anti-Semitic hate crimes, including Saadah Masoud and Waseem Awawdeh. In Masoud’s case, he received 18 months in jail for an anti-Semitic assault at an April 2022 WOL rally and two other anti-Semitic assaults in 2021.
WOL promotes “resistance” against Israel “by any means necessary,” calls to “Globalize the Intifada,” spreads incitement and idolizes [00:34:06] Palestinian terrorists like Leila Khaled and others at rallies and online events.
WOL was founded by Nerdeen Kiswani and Dan Cione in 2015. Kiswani is a frequent speaker at WOL rallies where she has promoted terrorism against Israelis and called for the death of Zionists. She has also provided support for Masoud and other activists following their arrests.
WOL began as the New York City chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), going by NYC SJP, but changed its name in 2018. The group is not found to be registered in any U.S. state as a nonprofit organization under its official name. Nor is there any listing for WOL under its name on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website for tax-exempt organizations.
JVP
JVP was founded in Berkeley, California in 1996, as an activist group with an emphasis on the “Jewish tradition” of peace, social justice and human rights. The organization is currently led by Rebecca Vilkomerson and its board members include Israel critics Naomi Klein, Judith Butler, Noam Chomsky and Tony Kushner.
JVP, which generally employs civil disobedience tactics to disrupt pro-Israel speakers and events, consists of American Jews and non-Jewish “allies” highly critical of Israeli policies. A staunch supporter of the BDS movement, JVP claims to aim its campaigns at companies that either support the Israeli military (Hewlett-Packard) or are active in the West Bank (SodaStream).
Although several Jewish groups critical of Israeli policies, like J Street and Partners for a Progressive Israel, make efforts to operate within the mainstream American Jewish community, JVP functions outside. The group is often criticized for serving as a tokenized Jewish voice for the pro-Palestinian camp and is widely regarded as the BDS movement’s “Jewish wing.”
JVP denies the notion of “Jewish peoplehood” and has even gone so far as to refer to its own Ashkenazi (Jews who spent the Diaspora in European countries) leadership as “white supremacy inside of JVP.”
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has accused JVP of being “the largest and most influential Jewish anti-Zionist group in the United States,” and said the group “exploits Jewish culture and rituals to reassure its own supporters that opposition to Israel not only does not contradict, but is actually consistent with, Jewish value.”
The ADL also claimed that “JVP consistently co-sponsors rallies to oppose Israeli military policy that are marked by signs and slogans comparing Israel to Nazi Germany, demonizing Jews and voicing support for groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.”
According to the ADL website, JVP “uses its Jewish identity to shield the anti-Israel movement from allegations of anti-Semitism and provide it with a greater degree of legitimacy and credibility.”
