Jason Baerga

Overview

Jason Baerga [Jason Ray Baerga] was reportedly arrested for assaulting a police officer. Baerga has expressed hatred of Jews and attempted to attack Israel supporters.

Baerga has also shoved police officers, joined others in the burning of an Israeli flag, and participated in several anti-Israel rallies.

Baerga has spread hatred of the police and engaged [slide 3] in activism with Within Our Lifetime (WOL), an anti-Israel activist group in New York City founded by Nerdeen Kiswani. Until February 2018, WOL was known as the New York City branch of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), using the name NYC SJP

WOL’s “Points of Unity” states [point 3]: “We defend the right of Palestinians as colonized people to resist the zionist occupation by any means necessary.”

Baerga is a supporter [slide 3] of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

As of June 2023, Baerga’s Facebook said Baerga had been a line cook at MetLife Stadium since September 2018 and as a chocolate maker at Jacques Torres Chocolates since August 2019. Baerga was also listed as having been a “former student” at the Culinary Tech Center NYC in 2018.

Also as of June 2023, Baerga’s Facebook said Baerga had been working at Copwatch Patrol Unit - CPU since 2021.

As of the same date, Baerga’s Facebook said Baerga was located in Queens, New York.

Also as of the same date, Baerga used went by the username “Jay Acab” and the handle “@jason.baerga2” on Facebook, and “@SmackthatCPU006” on YouTube.

Arrested for Assaulting a Police Officer

In July 2021, Baerga reportedly slapped a police officer’s helmet after another protester had spat on the same officer. Baerga was taken into custody where Baerga faced “attempted assault and obstruction charges.” The officer was taken to the hospital with “pain and irritation to his eye.”

On July 8, 2021, Baerga posted [slide 4] on Instagram thanking people who showed up for “jail support.”

Baerga was among a crowd that clashed with the police at Washington Square Park, after the NYPD had shown up to enforce the park’s midnight curfew. The mob began shaking the metal barricades erected around the park when one of the barriers was knocked over. As an officer went to pick up the barricade, a protester spat in one of his eyes. A protestor then shoved the railing down, causing injury to the officer’s hand.

June 11, 2021 - Strike MoMA Rally

Baerga participated [00:00:15] in burning and tearing apart [00:00:42] an Israeli flag during a June 11, 2021, Strike MoMA march titled: “Globalize the Intifada.” Baerga also stomped [00:00:53] and spat [00:00:49] on Israeli flags, and chanted [slide 8, 00:00:15] anti-Israel slogans.

In April 2021, WOL was part of a coalition of New York City anti-American groups called the “International Imagination of Anti-National Anti-Imperialist Feelings (IIAAF).” That month, IIAAF launched the Strike MoMA campaign by conducting 10 weeks of protests outside the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) and targeting individual members of its board of trustees for various reasons. The protests were held weekly from April 9 to June 11 and were billed [pp.6-7] as “Phase 1” of the campaign.

Strike MoMA personally targeted Jewish MoMA Board of Trustees members specifically for their Israel activism or business ties to Israel, independent of any other issues. The list included cosmetics executive Ronald Lauder for being president of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) and hedge fund manager Daniel Och for being on the board of Birthright Israel, a heritage trip to Israel for Jewish young adults.

On June 11, 2021, Baerga featured in a Daily Mail video from the Strike MoMA march where Baerga participated [00:00:15] in the burning and tearing [00:00:42] of an Israeli flag. Anti-Israel protesters then celebrated [00:00:44] the act and shouted [00:00:51]: “Allahu Akbar [God is the greatest]!”

Baerga’s leg could be seen [00:00:15] moving the Israeli flag with a black and red sneaker. Later, on the right side of the screen, Baerga tore [00:00:42] the flag apart while wearing a headband with a keffiyeh pattern.

Baerga later chanted [slide 8, 00:00:15] at the rally: “Globalize the intifada!” and [00:00:41] “From the River to the Sea, all our lands must be Free,” an adaptation of anti-Israel chant: “From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free!”

The term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” carries the connotation of violence. Palestinian intifadas waged against Israel have been marked since 1987 by hundreds of hijackings, shootings, stabbings, bombings and suicide missions.

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free” is a chant calling to dismantle the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state.

Baerga appeared [slide 8] waving [00:00:14] a Palestinian flag captioned with the words: “Free Palestine.” Baerga wore a keffiyeh draped around Baerga’s shoulders and the same keffiyeh patterned headband.

Baerga later spat [00:00:49] on an Israeli flag while WOL leader Kiswani addressed the crowd: “We marched today, we took over the streets and we visited multiple Zionist settler foundations. Multiple. We let them know we know where they’re at. We know where they work. We’re gonna find out more about where they’re at too. And we’re gonna go after them.”

At the Strike MoMa afterparty, organizers projected an image onto the MoMA building that read [slide 5]: “Long live Palestine! Fire to the colonizers!” Other projected graphics listed [00:04:00] MoMA board members.

May 28, 2021 - CUNY SJP Rally for Palestine

Baerga participated [slide 3] in a May 28, 2021 anti-Israel rally at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in NYC titled: “CUNY MUST DIVEST!”. The rally was organized by WOL and several SJP chapters and affiliates.

At the rally, anti-Israel activists chanted [00:00:01]: “Zionism out of CUNY!”

Also at the rally, an anti-Israel activist held a sign that said [slide 2]: “Israelis Using One Holocaust to Justify Another.”

At the rally, an anti-Israel agitator addressed the crowd, saying [00:02:38]: “If your solidarity does not include Palestinians then you are an obstacle!... If you cannot recognize the injustice, the apartheid, the imperialism… the borders of this empire, then you are an obstacle!”

A CUNY professor, representing [00:05:05] Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) also spoke and said [00:06:43]: “I say, absolutely Zionism is racism! Absolutely.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.

May 18, 2021 - “Emergency Rally to Defend Palestine”

Baerga expressed [00:14:21] hatred of Jews, chanted [00:01:26] multiple anti-Israel slogans [00:03:33], shoved [00:06:26] police officers and attempted [00:00:21] to attack pro-Israel supporters while participating in a May 18, 2021 WOL rally. Baerga wore [00:00:21] a green shirt and a Palestinian flag.

The protest was titled: “EMERGENCY RALLY TO DEFEND PALESTINE,” and it was held outside the Israeli Consulate, which WOL referred to on Instagram as the “Zionist mission to the United Nations.”

The protest was during Israel’s Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW) against Hamas.

In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.

Baerga live-streamed the rally on Facebook, during which Baerga chanted [00:01:26]: “be-ruh be-dam nifdik ya Aqsaبروح ودم نفديك يااقصى [With spirit, with blood, we will redeem you, Aqsa].”

The chant: “be-ruh be-dam nifdik ya Aqsaبروح ودم نفديك يااقصى [With spirit, with blood, we will redeem you, Aqsa]” can be heard [00:01:14] at anti-Israel rallies [00:02:19] in America. Yasser Arafat popularized the chant [00:00:23], which is invoked by anti-Israel protesters regarding a variety of causes.

The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state. Such propaganda has led to multiple periods of violence against Israeli civilians.

Baerga then chanted [00:03:33]: “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free!”

Baerga later chanted [00:12:49]: “Resistance is justified when people are colonized!”

The crowd later chanted at an anti-Israel protestor holding an Israeli flag, shouting: “Burn that s**t! Burn that s**t!”

Baerga then shouted [00:14:21]: “Burn that Jewish flag! Burn it!”

Later at the rally, Baerga shoved [00:06:26] police officers who were attempting to control the crowd. Baerga featured [00:01:26] in another video from the protest while in a crowd that was being pushed back by the police. Baerga appeared [00:01:26] on the right side of the screen, wearing a green shirt and a Palestinian flag.

Immediately following the protest, Baerga attempted [00:00:21] to attack two Israel supporters but was pushed back by a police officer. The two Israeli supporters were surrounded by anti-Israel activists who attacked them.

The mob was led by violent anti-Israel activist Saadah Masoud.

Baerga also featured [00:02:18] in a YouTube video that showed Baerga trying to participate in the fight, on the left side of the screen moving in the direction of the fight.

An article from the Daily Mail included photos of Baerga among the anti-Israel mob that attacked the two pro-Israel men. Baerga appeared [photo 3] at the center of the screen wearing a mask and a green shirt and [photo 5] on the left side of the screen behind Masoud.

May 15, 2021 - Nakba Day Rally

Baerga participated [00:05:10] in anti-Israel chants while joining a May 15, 2021 WOL protest in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, titled: “Nakba 73 DEFEND PALESTINE!”

The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.

In a live stream uploaded by Baerga to Facebook, Baerga chanted [00:05:10]: “1,2,3,4 Occupation no More!... 5,6,7,8 Israel is a terror state!” and [00:05:40]: “There is only one solution, Intifada Revolution!”

Hatred of the Police

As of June 2023, Baerga went by the username “Jay Acab” on Facebook.

ACAB” is an acronym that stands for “All cops are bastards.”

Also as of June 2023, Baerga went by the “Jay Acab” on Instagram and used the handle “@brooklyns_masterpiece_acab.” Baerga’s Instagram bio said: “When you love love hard be kind and love yourself always give back and remember F**K12 always.”

“F**k 12,” or “F 12,” is modern slang that generally means “F**k the police.”

On September 3, 2022, Baerga updated Baerga’s Facebook cover photo to an image with the words: “F**k 12.”

On August 2, 2022, Baerga wrote on Facebook: “F**K 12 always!!!! #copwatchers #copwatchpatrolunit #CPU #smackthatcpu006.”

WOL

Within Our Lifetime (WOL) is a pro-terror activist group in New York City dedicated to Israel’s destruction within the lifetime of its members.

Acts of violence and physical confrontations with police have frequently occurred at WOL protests and marches. WOL uses harassment campaigns to target pro-Israel organizations or companies that do business with Israel, making it a part of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Multiple activists who have either burned Israeli flags or led chants at WOL rallies were later jailed for violent anti-Semitic hate crimes, including Saadah Masoud and Waseem Awawdeh. In Masoud’s case, he received 18 months in jail for an anti-Semitic assault at an April 2022 WOL rally and two other anti-Semitic assaults in 2021.

WOL promotes “resistance” against Israel “by any means necessary,” calls to “Globalize the Intifada,” spreads incitement and idolizes [00:34:06] Palestinian terrorists like Leila Khaled and others at rallies and online events.

WOL was founded by Nerdeen Kiswani and Dan Cione in 2015. Kiswani is a frequent speaker at WOL rallies where she has promoted terrorism against Israelis and called for the death of Zionists. She has also provided support for Masoud and other activists following their arrests.

WOL began as the New York City chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), going by NYC SJP, but changed its name in 2018. The group is not found to be registered in any U.S. state as a nonprofit organization under its official name. Nor is there any listing for WOL under its name on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website for tax-exempt organizations.
